پروفیسر اکبر رحمانی
جناب اکبر رحمانی کی وفات ایک قومی و ملی حادثہ ہے، وہ درس و تدریس کے پیشے سے وابستہ تھے، اس کے باوجود بڑی سرگرمی سے تعلیمی، ادبی اور علمی خدمات بھی انجام دے رہے تھے، لیکن وظیفہ یاب ہونے کے بعد وہ محض علمی مشاغل اور تصنیف و تالیف کے لیے وقف ہوگئے تھے، اس کی وجہ سے خیال تھا کہ اب قوم کو ان کی ذہنی و دماغی قابلیت سے زیادہ بہرہ یاب ہونے کا موقع ملے گا، مگر دستِ اجل نے ان کو ہم سے چھین لیا۔ اور ۱۷؍ ستمبر کو وہ جوارِ رحمت میں پہنچ گئے، انااﷲ وانا الیہ راجعون۔
وہ ذیابیطس اور کئی موذی امراض میں مبتلا تھے، گردے بھی خراب ہوگئے تھے، دو سال پہلے حج بیت اﷲ کو تشریف لے گئے تھے وہیں گینگرین کیے سبب سے دائیں پاؤں کا انگوٹھا کاٹنا پڑا۔ اور ہندوستان واپس آنے کے بعد گھٹنے تک دایاں پاؤں کاٹ دیا گیا مگر ایک بندۂ مومن کی طرح وہ ان آزمائشوں کا صبر و شکر سے مقابلہ کرتے اور ہمہ تن اپنے تحریری اور تصنیفی کام انجام دیتے رہے کہ یکایک ان کی وفات کی خبر نے سب کو تڑپا دیا۔
مرحوم کا اصل نام اکبر خاں اور والد کا رحمان خاں تھا ان دونوں کے امتزاج سے انہوں نے اپنا قلمی نام ’’اکبر رحمانی‘‘ رکھ لیا تھا اور اسی سے روشناس تھے۔
اکبر صاحب کا خاندانی تعلق لودھیوں سے تھا ان کے آباواجداد ابراہیم لودھی کے زمانے میں ہندوستان آئے، آبائی وطن گنگا پور (اورنگ آباد دکن) تھا ۱۷؍ اکتوبر ۱۹۴۱؁ء کو پیدا ہوئے، ابتدائی و ثانوی تعلیم جلگاؤں میں حاصل کی، اعلیٰ تعلیم پونا اور بمبئی کی یونیورسٹیوں میں پائی، اردو کے علاوہ فارسی، انگریزی، ہندی اور مراٹھی زبانوں سے واقف تھے، ہندی اور مراٹھی کے مضامین اور کہانیوں کے اردو...

Human history is replete with preposterous and unjustifiable incidents of unearned sufferings against the women. Sometimes they were maltreated and molested harshly and sometimes they were abused, persecuted bestially. Contrary to these incidents occasionally they were considered superior and super angelic but on the contrary Islam has bestowed a dignified status to them regarding their rights and responsibilities. In this regard a comprehensive manifestation has been introduced by the Islam and until this manifestation was being followed by the Muslims no single complain was lodged by any woman against the violation of her basic in the Islamic societies till the climax of Islamic regime. But today some European countries are holding discussions to impose illegal sanctions against the veil of women and girls. The parliament of France has approved a discriminatory law against veil of the Muslim women or girls. It is amazing that Christian nun is at her liberty to cover her head with scarf or not but if Muslim women consider themselves safe in veil they are contemptuously scorned with derision and disdained. In this article views of France and Islamic teachings have been brought under discussion.

Weed Spectrum and Their Management Strategies in Wheat under Different Sowing Methods Planted at Varying Dates

Unwise use of herbicides has resulted in environmental and health problems not only for human beings and also for animals but it also caused some weed species to dominate fields due to resistance development against herbicides. Among the alternate ways of weed management in field crops application of allelopathy has shown tremendous scope in agricultural pest management. Different sowing methods and planting times has varying impact on the associated weeds. Studies on dynamics of weed flora and its management by allelopathy in wheat at varying sowing times planted by different methods were conducted at the Agronomic Research Area, Department of Agronomy, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan during 2008-09 and 2009-10. In the first experiment, weed flora under different sowing methods and planting dates was investigated. In second experiment allelopathic plant water extracts (PWE) of sorghum, sunflower and mulberry in combination with reduced doses of a herbicide in different sowing methods was evaluated. Whereas in third experiment, plant water extracts used in the second experiment in combination with reduced doses of a herbicide under different planting methods were assessed. Weed flora mainly consisted of Chenopodium album L. and Phalaris minor L., while few plants of Fumaria parviflora L., Avena fatua L., and Anagallis arvenses L. were also observed. It is noted that weeds if not controlled, can cause 60-66% yield losses in wheat. Maximum wheat productivity and net returns were obtained from wheat sown at November 15 on beds. Allelopathic PWE in combination with 1/3 rd dose of herbicide provided as effective weed control as was achieved from label dose of herbicide during 2008-09 and 2009-10 which caused substantial yield increase (54%), suggesting that herbicide dose could be reduced by 67%. For achieving eco-friendly weed control and maximum productivity allelopathic PWE combined with 1/3 rd dose of herbicide could be applied in wheat planted on beds at November 15.
