Agricultural education is the key component of development and growth of agriculture. This becomes essential when agriculture provides the base for economy of any country like Pakistan. This has vital role for building the capacity of the people in agricultural profession. Many universities and colleges have been offering agricultural education at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels and lastly, they have also started intermediate pre-Agriculture program. At the same time, the subject of agriculture has been a part of elementary school for many years. This analysis leads to conclusion that the gap that is still existing for the provision of agricultural education at secondary level. To fill this gap, at first level, the curriculum of agriculture must be in hand to start this program but still that has not been developed and launched at secondary level. This study aims at exploring the propositions of agricultural education curriculum and its teaching strategies at secondary level. This research automatically leads to fulfill the demand for agriculture education in schools to provide skilled persons as massive agricultural workforce. The objectives of the study were: a) To review the national educational policies, plans, projects and policy documents regarding agricultural education at secondary level. b) To assess the need of agricultural education for secondary level in relation to intermediate pre-agriculture program. c) To explore the possibilities for proposition of curriculum for agricultural education according to opinions of experts from agriculture. d) To explore teacher training strategies in relation to possibilities of agricultural education at secondary level through the opinion of experts from teacher education. The nature of study was descriptive. The study was conducted in three steps. At the first step; documentary analysis technique was used. Further, the need of agricultural education curriculum for secondary level was assessed. Purposive sampling technique was used to select subject specialists from University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. At the second step; the data were collected through three round Delphi technique for proposition of agricultural education curriculum. At third step; purposive sampling technique was used to select expert teachers in teacher education from universities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. At this step, possible ways were proposed for teacher training in agricultural education at secondary level. The data were analyzed with frequencies, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. The qualitative data were analyzed by themes and analytical approach. This research suggests that agriculture education may be launched at secondary school level and proposed some possibilities to fit agriculture education at secondary level. It is highly recommended that agriculture may be teach as an elective subject in science group. The research suggests that advance knowledge in field of agriculture with pedagogical skills are necessary for teaching of agriculture at secondary level like BS. or B.Sc. (Hons.) in agriculture with B.Ed. or advance diploma in teaching of agriculture. So, this study provides practical directions to policy makers and curriculum planners.

Transplant and Donation of Organs in Islamic Perspective

Transplantation of organs and its donation is a burning issue of the present time. It has been carried out in different ways for different purposes. No doubt, the medical field has a vital role in serving the human beings by introducing new means of treatments including the transplant of organs. In Islamic point of view the transplantation and donation of human organs is lawful only when it follows the objectives of Shariah. The human dignity is to be maintained in every movement of life. If practicing the transplant leads to human destruction and violation of its prestige and honor or paves the path to kidnapping, bargaining and immorality, then it should be avoided. Donation of organs, under the supervision of strict regulatory authority, will be beneficial. In this article, Islamic perspective on this issue has been brought forth.

Preparation and Characterization of Modified Streptokinase from Streptococcus Spp.

Streptokinase (SK) is a fibrinolytic protein which has been produced by several species of β-hemolytic Streptococci. It has been extensively used to treat cardiovascular disorders by activating plasminogen into plasmin and eventually dissolving the blood clot. The objective of the current research project was to exploit indigenously isolated Streptococcus agalactiae EBL-20 for the production of SK and enhancing its productivity by Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation and ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) induced mutations, optimized culture conditions and nutritional requirements. Four mutants namely, S. agalactiae EBL-31, S. agalactiae EBL-32, S. agalactiae EBL-33 and S. agalactiae EBL-34 were selected by different screening procedures using triton X-100, casein plasminogen overlay assay and clot lysis assay. The optimum levels of four process variables (pH, temperature, incubation time and inoculum size) were obtained by Response Surface Methodology (RSM). According to statistical results, a temperature value of 37.5⁰C and pH 7 of the fermentation medium with 2.50 mL inoculum size for 36 hours of incubation was considered as optimum for enhanced SK production. After optimization, mutant derived strains EBL-31, EBL-32, EBL-33 and EBL-34 resulted in 2.01, 2.30, 3.70 and 2.48 fold increased activity as compared to parent S. agalactiae EBL-20, respectively. The best mutant obtained after performing optimization studies was found to be S. agalactiae EBL-33 with 3.70 fold increased activity, hence it was purified and exploited for characterization studies with reference to S. agalactiae EBL-20.The purification of SK by DEAE-cellulose and Sephadex-G100 resulted into specific activity of 447.6 and 1278.87 U mg⁻¹ from parent S. agalactiae EBL-20 and mutant derived S. agalactiae EBL-33, respectively. The molecular weight of SK obtained from both the strains of S. agalactiae was found to be 47 kDa. Study of kinetic and thermodynamic parameters revealed that SK obtained from S. agalactiae EBL-33 has more potential for utilizing its substrate i.e., plasminogen with high thermostability, in contrast to SK derived from S. agalactiae EBL-20. The study concludes that both UV rays and EMS are effective mutagenic agents for enhanced production of SK from S. agalactiae. Moreover, enhanced SK yield can be obtained by optimizing the nutritional necessities and fermentation/cultivation conditions of the microorganism.
