پروفیسر سید احتشام حسین صدر شعبۂ اردو الٰہ آباد یونیورسٹی کی ناگہانی وفات علمی و ادبی دنیا کا بڑا سانحہ ہے، مرحوم اس دور کے چوٹی کے ادیبوں اور نقادوں میں تھے، ترقی پسند ادب کے تو معلم و رہنما تھے، اس دور کے نوجوان ادیبوں کی پوری نسل ان سے متاثر ہوئی، جدید ادب کے ساتھ قدیم ادبیات پر بھی ان کی نظر بڑی گہری، اور مبصرانہ تھی، اور وہ اس کی اچھی روایات کے بھی قدرشناس تھے، لسانیات سے بھی واقف تھے، انھوں نے سیکڑوں ادبی و تنقیدی مضامین اور بعض مستقل کتابیں لکھیں، اگرچہ وہ ترقی پسندوں کے امام تھے لیکن ان کے خیالات میں بڑا اعتدال و توازن اور زبان و قلم دونوں میں بڑی شایستگی تھی، اس لئے جدید کے ساتھ قدیم طبقہ میں بھی ان کی بڑی قدر تھی، وہ ابتداء میں لکھنؤ یونیورسٹی کے شعبۂ اردو کے لکچر مقرر ہوئے اور تقریباً ۱۵- ۱۶ سال اس عہدہ پر رہے، پھر الٰہ آباد یونیورسٹی اردو کے صدر ہوگئے تھے، اردو کی تمام اہم مجالس کے ممتاز رکن تھے، کوئی اہم ادبی اجتماع ان کے بغیر کامیاب نہ سمجھا جاتا تھا، انھوں نے مختلف حیثیتوں سے اردو کی بڑی قیمتی خدمات انجام دیں اور ہر محاذ پر اردو کے مخالفین کا مقابلہ کیا۔

An Investigation of English as Foreign Language Students' Attitudes Toward Improving Their Speaking Abilities at KRI Universities

The study examines English as Foreign Language (EFL) students’ attitude towards developing their speaking abilities at KRI University in order to better understand the disparities in speaking competency among undergraduates. The study utilized a quantitative approach and employed a 4-item interview survey to gather data for the study. The survey interview questionnaire was adopted from Wang, Kim, Bong, and Ahan (2013) and administered to 100 students in the departments of English of six universities in Iraq's Kurdistan Region. A semi-structured interview was developed for EFL students. The questionnaire was online and an open-ended one. The data from the participants was analyzed using thematic analysis with (SPSS) software. The finding revealed a perceived failure in EFL students' English-speaking skills and this was reported along with causes of the perceived difficulty. The finding also revealed a poor level of speaking ability among EFL undergraduates as well as little education in the skill at the university level. Apart from these, the study discovered some major challenges for EFL students such as lack of confidence, lack of planning, a demotivating atmosphere, incorrect word choice, poor gestures, and incorrect style which made the students not to be successful in their speaking abilities. The study suggested that EFL learners' competency should be securitized to strengthen their speaking abilities in the light of the results of the study. Speaking is a crucial ability in language acquisition and EFL teachers should help their students acquire it. As a means of improving students' communicative ability, task-based instruction should be utilized in educational institutions and universities. The implication of this paper is that speaking difficulties among EFL students in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region institution can be solved by putting greater focus on this ability. There are several issues to consider, including teachers, instructional methodologies, the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and assessment rules.

Robust Control System Design for a Class of Uncertain Nonlinear Systems

Robust Control System Design for a Class of Uncertain Nonlinear Systems The work presented in this thesis is an endeavor to combine two nonlinear control frameworks in order to utilize the beneficial attributes of adaptive backstepping and sliding mode control or integral sliding mode control techniques. The adaptive backstepping method is capable of eliminating external disturbances and dynamically estimating the unknown parameters. This technique solves the problem of relative degree which is the main drawback of conventional sliding mode control method. It is also globally effective for the stability of the nonlinear control systems. The sliding mode control is another widely used method due to its robustness against matching uncertainties. The robustness of nonlinear system can be enhanced by adding an integral term with the sliding manifold of sliding mode control method. This attribute is achieved by eliminating the reaching phase of sliding mode control which makes it immune against fast parametric variations that occurs during reaching phase. On the basis of this synergy, new strategies have been proposed which are named as Adaptive Backstepping Higher Order Integral Sliding Mode Control (ABHOISMC), and Adaptive Backstepping Integral Sliding Mode Control (ABISMC), and based on our simulation studies, they are found to be more robust against both matching and mismatching uncertainties. During the implementation of newly proposed techniques, it is not necessary to transform the system into triangular form which is generally needed in the conventional backstepping procedure. The first proposed scheme, the ABISMC, is applied to control the parameters of continuous stirred tank regulator plant with its model expressed mathematically in a non-triangular form. The simulation results establish the efficacy of the proposed scheme. As a second example, the ABISMC is also applied for the tracking of the desired output in a field-controlled direct-current motor. The simulation results are found to be very convincing. Finally, the second proposal, the ABHOISMC, is applied on a theoretical plant expressed in a semi-strict feedback form; the resulting simulation findings substantiate our claims.
