گزشتہ ماہ یہ افسوسناک خبر ملی کہ جامعہ ہمدرد دہلی کے لائق وائس چانسلر پروفیسر رشید الظفر کا انتقال ایک حادثہ میں ہوگیا، اناﷲ وانا الیہ راجعون۔ وہ سعودی عرب کے سفر پر تھے، جہاں ریاض اور ظہران کی شاہراہ پر ان کی گاڑی کو حادثہ پیش آیا اور اس طرح یہ سفر ان کے لیے سفرِ آخرت بن گیا۔
وہ مسلم یونیورسٹی کے قابل فخر طالب علم تھے، ان کے والد پروفیسر حفیظ الرحمن بھی اسی یونیورسٹی کے شعبہ قانون کے ممتاز اساتذہ میں تھے، انہوں نے انجینئرنگ کی تعلیم حاصل کی، خاص مضمون اسٹرکچرل انجینئرنگ تھا، اس میں بیرون ملک کی دانش گاہوں سے بھی استفادہ کیا اور اعلیٰ سندیں حاصل کیں، معلم و متعلم کی حیثیت سے ان کی زندگی قابل رشک اور مثالی رہی، صرف ۳۱ سال کی عمر میں وہ مسلم یونیورسٹی میں سول انجینئرنگ کے پروفیسر ہوگئے، بعد میں انہوں نے اس موضوع پر بین الاقوامی شہرت و مقبولیت حاصل کی، چنانچہ ظہران کی پیٹرولیم یونیورسٹی میں جہاں عالم اسلام کے ممتاز ترین ماہرین فن کو یکجا کرنے کی سعی کی جاتی ہے ان کا بحیثیت پروفیسر تقرر ہوا اور وہاں انہوں نے برسوں نہایت خوبی سے تعلیم و تدریس کے فرائض انجام دیے، چند برس قبل جب دہلی میں ہمدرد یونیورسٹی کی شکل میں محترم جناب حکیم عبدالحمید دہلوی کا خواب شرمندہ تعبیر ہوا تو حکیم صاحب کی جو ہرشناس نگاہ ان پر پڑی اور وہ اس جامعہ کی وائس چانسلری کے عہدہ پر فائز ہوئے اور اپنی جانکاہی و جاں سوزی، خاموش خدمت اور مسلسل جہد و عمل سے نہایت قلیل مدت ہی میں بڑی نیک نامی حاصل کی، اپنی مادر علمی مسلم یونیورسٹی کے اعلیٰ مقاصد سے ہمیشہ خاص ربط و تعلق رکھا اور جب بھی اس پر کوئی آنچ آئی تو...

Development and Evaluation of an Audio System Trainer

Guided by the desire to contribute a little in the development of an innovative instructional technology for the teaching of electronics, this researcher constructed a prototype audio system trainer. Electronics teachers will find the instructional tool convenient and practical to use for visual instruction, laboratory activities and troubleshooting works in electronics. To support the functionality of the audio system trainer, the researcher developed a supplementary laboratory manual. The project whose production costs totaled fourteen thousand two hundred seventy two pesos and fifty centavos (Php 14,272.50) was finished in two weeks’ time. However, this amount is small if compared to the prices of commercially available instructional device developed for the same purpose. The completed project and the supplementary laboratory exercises were evaluated by selected technical faculty members of the College of Industrial Technology of the Bulacan State University, Bulacan Polytechnic College, University of Rizal System, and Lyceum of the Philippines University. Sampling technique as used in the study is both purposive and incidental. The prototype audio system trainer received an over-all mean rating of 4.62 which means that the project is highly acceptable on a set of criteria which includes – physical features, cost, function / operations, and durability. Furthermore, the supplementary laboratory exercises obtained a mean of 4.70 which could be interpreted that the respondents strongly agree on the validity of the manual.

Dielectric Characterization Using High Q Microwave Resonators

Dielectric Characterization Using High Q Microwave Resonators This dissertation presents a very efficient and robust method of dielectric characterization through high quality factor resonant structures. The resonant structures employed in this work acts as sensing elements which are not only cost effective but also easy to integrate with other components for System-in-Package applications. These sensors work on the principle of resonant perturbation theory due to which there is a shift in resonant frequency and change in bandwidth as soon as they are loaded with a sample material. This perturbation is relative to the dielectric properties of the loaded material hence through prior calibration unknown parameters of the sample material can be determined with excellent accuracy. Two classes of sensors based on Dielectric Resonator (DR) and Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) cavity are reported. The DR sensor offers high accuracy and excellent repeatability with straight forward MUT loading mechanism. The TM01δ resonant mode is excited to keep maximum E-field concentration in the middle of DR. This arrangement ensures maximum perturbation of the DR when the sample material is loaded. Organic liquid mixtures as well as powdered chemicals are measured for their concentration using this DR. SIW cavity is another structure which is investigated for dielectric characterization application of solids and in particular to estimate moisture content in a single wheat kernel. The wheat kernel is loaded inside cavity through a hole drilled in the appropriate location that results in shifting the resonant frequency of SIW cavity which is operated in TE101 or TE102 resonant mode. High quality factor and planar topology of SIW is very attractive for such applications. A relatively different technique of liquid characterization by varying the coupling coefficient of an SIW filter is also proposed. A two pole SIW filter is used in which the two resonators are coupled through a stub line. The sample is mounted on the coupling section of the filter resulting in the variation of the coupling coefficient and xi this variation is proportional to the electrical properties of the liquid under test, thus through prior calibration the liquid mixture concentration is determined. All the proposed techniques in this work can be easily transformed into a standalone handheld device by integrating peripheral electronics for measurements. Since the resonant perturbation technique is applied in association with the standard reference samples which are used for calibrating the system prior to its usage therefore, the handheld system does not require very high precision RF components.
