پروفیسر حافظ محمود خاں شیرانی
دوسرا حادثۂ وفات پروفیسر حافظ محمود خاں شیرانی کاہے جوفروری کی آخری تاریخوں میں پیش آیا۔ مرحوم فارسی اور اردو دونوں زبانوں کی شعروشاعری اور تاریخ ادب کے نامور محقق اور فاضل تھے۔ذکاوت وفطانت کے ساتھ قوتِ حافظہ غیر معمولی تھی۔قرآن مجید کے حافظ تھے ہی۔فردوسی کاشاہنامہ بھی انھیں ازبر یادتھا۔یورپ میں ایک مدت تک رہ چکے تھے اور وہاں کے نامور مستشرقین سے روابط رکھتے تھے۔ عربی اور فارسی اور اردو کی قلمی کتابوں اور مختلف قدیم اسلامی سلطنتوں کے سکوں کوجمع کرنے کابڑا شوق تھا اوروہ علمی تحقیق وجستجو کے میدان میں ان سے خاطر خواہ فائدہ اٹھاتے تھے ۔فارسی اوراردو زبان کے شعراء کے مطبوعہ اورغیر مطبوعہ تذکروں اوران کے مجموعہ ہائے کلام پر ان کی نظر بہت گہری اور وسیع تھی۔اس کے علاوہ اسلامی تاریخ اورعلمِ عروض میں بھی بڑا درک رکھتے تھے۔۱۹۲۰ء میں پنجاب یونیورسٹی میں اردو کے پروفیسر مقرر ہوئے۔بیس سال تک اس خدمت پرمامور رہنے کے بعد ۴۰ء میں اس سے سبکدوش ہوکر اپنے وطن ٹونک میں خانہ نشین ہوگئے۔اس مدت میں آپ نے بحیثیت نقاد ہندوستان کے علمی اورادبی حلقوں میں غیر معمولی شہرت پائی۔اس شہرت کاآغاز اس مقالہ سے ہوا جو ’’تنقید شعرالعجم‘‘ کے نام سے انجمن ترقی اردو کے سہ ماہی رسالہ ’’اردو‘‘ میں کئی سال تک مسلسل نکلتا رہاتھا۔اورجواب اسی نام سے کتابی شکل میں چھاپ دیاگیا ہے۔اس کے علاوہ ’’آب حیات‘‘ (آزاد) ’’ہندوستان میں مغلوں سے قبل فارسی‘‘، ’’رباعی کے اوزان‘‘ وغیرہ پر جو آپ کے تنقیدی مقالات اورینٹل کالج میگزین لاہور اوردوسرے رسائل میں شائع ہوچکے ہیں ان میں سے ہر ایک مقالہ معلومات اورتحقیق و ژرف نگاہی کے اعتبارسے فارسی اور اردو ادبیات کے طالب علم کے لیے انمول موتیوں کاایک خزانہ ہے۔مستقل تصنیفات میں ’’پنجاب میں اردو‘‘، ’’فرودسی پرچار مقالے‘‘، ’’پرتھی راج راسا‘‘اور ’’خالق باری‘‘ آپ کی...

HOMESCHOOLING: A FORMULA FOR ESTABLISHING ISLAMIC EDUCATION IN REMOTE COMMUNITIES IN INDONESIA

The disparity in the equality of education in Indonesia, especially in backwoods areas, is one of the problems of education in Indonesia. One of the Government's action in overcoming this gap is by distributing teachers to remote areas of the country. In addition, the government also stipulates several laws and regulations as the formal legality of education in backwoods communities. This study aims to explore the possibility of implementing the homeschool education model (homeschooling) for backwoods communities, as an effort to applied Islamic subject matter and prevail education in Indonesia. This study uses a naturalistic phenomenological approach, using triangulation as one of the data analyzes. The research location is in Hansibong, a backwoods hamlet in the Sojol mountains of ParigiMoutong district, Central Sulawesi. The results of this study found that education in Hansibong is carried out informally within the family. Learning process is held in a traditional way, using very minimal of media, methods and subject matter. The material taught is limited to morality values, reading and writing, arithmetic and the ability to survive in nature. Islamic education in its function as a strengthening of cognitive intelegence, morals, spirituality and nationality has not been provided in learning at home. As a research implication, a homeschooling socialization effort is needed so that the student community can continue to a higher level. The implementation of homeschooling that is not in accordance with the technical guidelines issued by the government will only disserve students because learning outcomes cannot be equalized with existing education levels.

Modulation of Cadmium Toxicity in Wheat by Foliar Application of Sodium Nitroprusside

Cadmium (Cd) is harmful to plants as well as animals and causes serious threats to human health. Thus, it is imperative to understand the mechanisms of Cd effects through Cd-induced physio-biochemial determinations as well as its accumulation, transportation and the relationships with growth, antioxidant systems and the mineral nutrients. Furthermore, the contribution of exogenous sodium nitroprusside (SNP) in alleviating the Cd toxicity in wheat is largely unknown and needs to be dissected. The experiments were conducted using different Cd (control, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2 mM) regimes without or with an exogenous nitric oxide (NO) donor, SNP (0.15 and 0.30 mM) on four cultivars of wheat (Punjab-2011, AARI-2011, Millat-2011 and Sehar-2006). The exogenous application of SNP was efficient in recovering growth of Cd-stressed wheat plants. Cd reduced the growth attributes, chlorophyll contents, gas exchange attributes, total flavonoids, anthocyanin contents, leaf relative water contents (LRWC), essential nutrients, total phenolics, soluble proteins, and grain yield components while increased leaf relative membrane permeability, total free amino acids, proline, glycinebetain (GB), reducing and non-reducing sugars, ascorbic acid, malondialdehyde (MDA), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and the activity of ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD)irrespective of wheatcultivars.More effective level of SNP was 0.30 mM which under Cd stress improved growth and physiological attributes of wheat plants. Punjab-2011 and AARI-2011 showed better performance than Millat-2011 and Sehar-2006 in Cd-stress environment. NO exogenous application was useful to improve shoots and roots fresh and dry biomasses, chlorophyll contents, photosynthetic rate, total flavonoids, anthocyanin contents, LRWC, uptakeofessential nutrients, total phenolics, soluble proteins, and grain yield components under Cd stress. Moreover, NO inverted the toxic effects of Cd on leaf relative membrane permeability, total free amino acids, proline, glucose and sucrose, MDA, H2O2 and the activities of APX, CAT, POD irrespective of wheat cultivars. Overall, the results elaborated that exogenous NO recuced the Cd toxicity in wheat.
