لسانیات کا انسانی زندگی پر گہرا اثر پڑتا ہے۔ زبان اور ادب کے ساتھ اس کا گہرا تعلق ہے۔لسانیات کی مدد سے ہم قدیم سے قدیم اور جدید سے جدید ادب کی تشکیل اور تفہیم میں آسانی ہوتی ہے۔لسانیات کی مدد سے کس بھی زبان کے قواعد اور تراکیب کو باآسانی سمجھا جا سکتا ہے۔یہ کام ماہر لسانیات ہی کر سکتے ہیں۔لسانیات تاریخ کے ان گوشوں کو بھی بے نقاب کرتی ہیجو وقت کی دھند میں کہیں گم ہو چکے ہوتے ہیں۔ماہر لسانیات کا صرف اپنی زبان میں ماہر ہونا ضروری نہیں ہے۔بلکہ دوسری زبانوں کا ماہر ہونا ضروری ہے۔اگر اردو کا ماہر ہے تو فارسی اور عربی زبان کا ماہر ہونا بھی ضروری ہے۔نہ صرف آگہی بلکہ جانچ پڑتال ضروری ہے۔جو الفاظ متروک ہو چکے ہیںوہ کیوں متروک ہیں۔میرکا دیوان ولی کا کلام دیکھیں نہ وہ الفاظ استعمال ہیں جو اب متروک ہو چکے ہیں۔ لسانیات کے علم سے شاعر کے اسلوب سے بھی آگاہی ہوتی ہے اور اس دور کے متعلق معلومات ملتی ہیں۔
لسانیات میں مختلف زبانوں کے انسانی معاشروں کے درمیان پائے جانے والے تعلق اور رشتوں کی بازیافت کا کام بھی ہوتا ہے۔لسانیات کا کام سماجیات اور اس کے کئی پہلووں کو جانچنا اورپرکھنا اور اسے اجاگر کرنا ہوتا ہے۔ لسانیات تعصبات،قومیت اور وطنیت سے قطع نظر خطوں، ملکوں اور شہروں میں بنے ہوئے لوگوں کو لسانی خصوصیات کے مطابق نزدیک لانے کے اسباب پیدا کرتی ہے۔

Poetry is one of the most prominent spiritual genres of mystic literature. Most of the mystics have expressed their thoughts in poetry. Mystic poetry is replete with metaphors of “wine”, “cup”, “tavern” and “wine-bearer” although, in Islam, the use of wine is strictly prohibited. However, the mystic poets make repeated use of such metaphors. This paper aims to compare the use of the metaphor of wine, cup, and tavern in the poetry of Rumi and Hafiz. Further, it spotlights the hidden meaning of mystical metaphors to make it expressible. The current research is based on Ricoeur’s hermeneutic model of understanding text which Ricoeur calls the Hermeneutic Arc. This study concludes that the cornerstone ideology beyond the use of metaphors is to awaken the sleeping souls, the negation of material pursuit, and realization of spiritual truth---Divine love and unity with God. Hafiz focuses on freedom, an eternity of soul, joy, and immortality; further. While Rumi talks about enlightenment of soul, union with Beloved and strong faith. Rumi’s use of language, imagery, and ideas are more powerful than Hafiz.
The time period form 17th century to 19th century, in Urdu prose, is called the era of 'Dastan'. Though some attempts or endeavor can also be seen in Dastan writing after this time period. Because of a leading kind of its time period, Dastan is of prime importance. In this thesis, under consideration research carried out about a very important part of Dastan. The investigatory and the critical analysis of the main characters of the Dastan not only drag this kind of speech from darkness of past but also helps to highlight the standard of characterization of that era. All those Dastans are included in this thesis which are published, having unity of plot and revolve around central character. Collection of proverbs is included in this selection. All those Dastans are avoided to include in which most of the material was borrowed from other Dastans or which revolves around the same topic. In this thesis, standard of characterization in Dastans, capabilities of characterization and how was it differ from the characterization of modern was discussed. Character of Dastan is also examined according to social and moral standardization of modern era. The thesis has been divided in to four parts. Part one deals with the central theme of 'Dastan'. Part two deals with the main characters of the prominent Dastan published pre Fort William College period. Part three consists of critical analysis of important characters of the stories published under the patronage of Fort William College, while part four comprises critical analysis and evaluation of the central characters of important Dastans published during the same period but not under the patronage of the college. The objective of the thesis is to highlight the fundamental characters of the Dastan, portray their importance and judge the standard of characterization. It is also our objective to enable the modern reader establish, by himself, a link between the ancient and modern literature. Epilogue is captioned "collective evaluation". In epilogue the central characters of the Dastans, included in the thesis, have been discussed briefly.
