The World Wide Web and its millions of internet applications have revolutionized the way people to communicate, socialize, stay healthy, educate, conduct business, do politics, and do ?any-thing-at-all?. The huge amount of data generated by these applications is also proving quite valuable in the context of analyses, evaluations and predictions. These predictions help in organizational planning & management, to a very acceptable degree of accuracy. This research thesis is a study of several current researches on the extraction and analysis of short text messages or micro-blogs, from a social-science perspective. Specifically, this study investigates linguistic-frequency and sentiment analysis of micro-blogs in general, by identifying, collating and visualizing conversational and behavioral biases of people, from a very large twitter dataset of 6+ million tweets. This study explores short text analysis using freely available text processing and visual analysis tools. A novel contribution of this work is to investigate the effectiveness of automated labeling of tweets instead of manual labeling. Comparison of automatically labelled tweets with baseline STS-gold set. The baseline dataset of manually labelled twitter dataset show a very small deficiency of 6-8%, making our method viable for huge/big datasets. Main result of this study is a framework that encapsulates three current techniques for analyzing and visualizing microblogs. The frequency measurements and classification have been performed using the NLTK text processing tool. Sentiment Analysis has been carried out using NLTK and WEKA tools. Network Graphs made in Gephi software have been used to visualize user trends and behaviors, utilizing metrics from Networks Theory.

Impact of Holy Quran Recitation on Psychological Wellbeing Among Muslim Youth

The present study is aimed to examine the relation of Holy Qur’ān recitation and psychological wellbeing among the Muslim Youth. People find no time for offering prayers and reciting Holy Qur’ān because they are very busy in their daily routines and if they do so, they do it for short period of time when they are in some trouble. The objectives include firstly the exploration of the relationship of Holy Qur’ān recitation and psychological wellbeing. Second objective of the study is to explore the correlation of the Holy Qur’ān recitation with depression, anxiety and stress among young Muslims. Study sample comprises of 100 young Muslims (43 males and 57 females) falling between 17 and 25 years from Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Instruments used for data collection include psychological wellbeing scale by Kamman and Flett (1983) and DASS (depression anxiety stress scale) by Lovibond and Lovibond (1995) and a demographic sheet. Results of the study showed that significant positive relationship exists between Holy Qur’ān recitation and psychological wellbeing among young Muslims and Holy Qur’ān recitation negatively relates with depression, anxiety and stress. The present study findings support that those young Muslims who had more rate of Holy Qur’ān recitation were psychologically more stable as compared to non-frequent reciters. In the light of findings of current study, it can be declared as a quintessence that Holy Qur’ān Recitation can serve as an influential element in ensuring the positive mental health of youth. Educators and Policy makers can play a crucial role in promotion of Holy Qur’ān familiarity which will make certain the psychological and mental health of youth and of the society at large.

Antihyperglycemic Potential of Polyherbal Formulation in Alloxanized Hyperglycemic Rats

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder having serious consequences on health and is becoming the 3rd most fatal disease worldwide. The current study was designed to prepare, characterize, standardize and explore the antidiabetic potential of a polyherbal formulation comprising aqueous extracts of Momordica charantia,Syzygium cumini, Acacia nilotica, Elettaria cardamomum, Cicer arietinum L, Foeniculum Vulgare and Gymnema sylvestre. Hyperglycemia was induced by alloxan monohydrate. After induction of diabetes polyherbal formulation was administered in graded doses 200 mg/kg, 400 mg/kg & 600 mg/kg to treated groups I, II and III respectively.Prior to start of In-vivo trial, polyherbal formulation was standardized by performing phytochemical, mineral and proximate analysis. Polyherbal formulation was found to be rich in phytoconstituents and minerals with antihyperglycemic and antioxidant potential. Proximate/physicochemical analysis further confirmed the nutritional value of formulation due to the presence of crude fat, crude fiber, crude protein and carbohydrate contents in formulation. Antihyperglycemic potential of polyherbal formulation was determined through biochemical, histopathological and oxidative stress analysis. Results of the study have revealed that polyherbal formulation significantly reversed the alloxan induced hyperglycemia in rat models by improving the biochemical and oxidative stress parameters in dose dependent manner. Highest dose of polyherbal formulation (600 mg/kg) significantly reduced the serum overall mean glucose (239+21.35), glycosylated hemoglobin (8.16+0.47) and increased the serum overall mean insulin (12.84+1.28) levels in comparison to positive control group having serum overall mean glucose (356.27±6.57), glycosylated hemoglobin (12.34±0.48) and insulin (6.84±0.71) levels respectively. Moreover, histopathological analysis also supported the antidiabetic potential of polyherbal formulation. Polyherbal formulation enhanced the performance of pancreatic β cells by upregulating the expression of Pdx-1, Ins-1 and Ins-2 (insulin signaling cascade) and down regulating the expression of cellular stress cascade, MAPK downstream c-Jun N terminal kinase (JNK). Conclusively, the results of current study indicated the potent hypoglycemic properties of polyherbal formulation.
