The aim of this research thesis is to bring the challenges and issues in Scrum implementation to light and proposing solutions for theses. For this, a survey is conducted in two companies named Digital Prodigy Limited (DPL) and Bentley Systems Pakistan. Participants include experienced and inexperienced scrum personals from both companies. The analysis of the survey results exposed several issues that affect scrum implementation directly or indirectly and resulting in violation of Scrum rules. Quality items pileup, module integration issues, code quality, disruption in team work, mature vs. immature scrum, sprint duration, lack of Scrum training, release process, backlog management, no technical practices, multiple teams, metrics, risk management, documentation and over idealistic are some examples of these issues. During this study, it has been observed that proper training of Scrum can eliminate half of the issues such as, disruption in team work, immature Scrum, sprint duration and backlog management. At the end, suggestions to address these issues are also provided.

The Impact of Prophetic Hijrah on the Societies of Makkah and Madinah

The aim of Hijrah is philosophically viewed as a way to spread Islam wisely. This was by Allah’s guidance and directive amidst the very bitter atmosphere in Makkah at that time against the early followers of the Islamic religion brought by the Rasulullah (pbuh). The prophetic Hijrah observed from the way it impacted Makkah and Madinah’s societies can be construed as a very important event that provided us with a variety of messages. It also acts as a reflection of our contributions to da’wah and the roles we can assume as good Muslims, by looking at what the Rasulullah (pbuh) and his companions had themselves sacrificed in the Hijrah. In short, Al-Hijra is the time when the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his followers moved from Makkah to Madinah, where they set up the first Islamic state. Islam needed to expand and spread in the world, so the migration resulted in the expansion and preservation of Islam and Muslims. The Rasulullah (pbuh) migrated to Madinah when his enemies in Makkah mistreated him and his followers. It is a fact that the early Muslims in Makkah were greatly troubled by the unbelievers of Quraisy, the tribe of the Prophet (pbuh). The Rasulullah’s (pbuh) popularity in his da'wah efforts to invite his people to Islam was seen as threatening by the people in power in Makkah. The context of Hijrah was seen as urgent and timely as the unbelievers in Makkah had escalated the persecution against Muhammad (pbuh) and his followers. This persecution and a directive from Allah were the main reasons for the migration.

Exploring Feedback Practices of Primary Teachers on Students Homework in a Public School in Gilgit Baltistan

Formative assessment practices within schools are usually carried out in two dimensions; assigning assessment tasks to the students and providing feedback on the assigned tasks. To assess students’ learning or performance effectively, it is unavoidable to plan and manage all tasks or activities in a way that will ensure the very purpose of the intended assessment. This study aimed to explore and understand the existing feedback practices of teachers in a primary school on students’ homework. The study was carried out under the qualitative paradigm employing the case study method. Two teachers and ten students were involved as the study’s participants. The study revealed that the teachers used to assign homework to their students and provide feedback on the assigned work but in a narrower scope. The assigned homework essentially remained textbook oriented and feedback on it was less focused and of a traditional manner. Teachers’ provided feedback was comprised mostly with the direct form of corrective feedback and also in an inconsistent way. However, the study also explored the challenges which constrained the teachers in carrying out effective feedback practices. These challenges and obstacles obviously are: (a) inadequate professional training of teachers, (b) ineffective supervision of school administration, and (c) absence of clear institutional policy regarding homework and feedback. The study further explored that the teachers need to be acquainted with the proper knowledge of formative assessment and its techniques to carry out effective and purposeful feedback practices within classrooms. The existing feedback practices of teachers in lower grades seem unnecessarily corrective and lacking both purpose and focus on students’ work. The study suggests detailed and individualized feedback on students written drafts as well as a scaffolding assistance for students in lower grades. The study also endorses to assign homework to students consistently but according to their needs, ease and interest. The purposeful home tasks thus would make the feedback process more meaningful and advantageous for both students and teachers.
