Medical Specialists, attributed as knowledge worker in this study, are considered to be an asset for the organizations they are serving not only because of their knowledge but also due to huge investment Govt. of Pakistan is spending annually on their medical education. The current study is set out to explore and examine the antecedents and consequences of organizational commitment of knowledge workers serving as medical specialists in public and private hospitals of Lahore region of Pakistan. The organizational commitment of knowledge workers is not ignorable because generally, the commitment level of knowledge workers is high towards their profession as compare to the organization where they are serving. Due to this reason, it is very critical to know the source(s) of commitment of knowledge workers towards their organizations. For this reason, researcher was motivated to conduct the current study to know what could be done to keep them committed so that they continue to serve within country rather than going abroad or frequently switch their organizations. A quantitative questionnaire based survey was launched and about 350 randomly selected medical specialists/surgeons/dental doctors of Lahore city were contacted to find determinants and outcomes of their commitment to the organizations. The respondents were either serving in different medical colleges as teaching faculty or they are general practitioners in different public/private hospitals. This research contributes the empirical evidence of the organizational commitment of the knowledge workers, their determinants and outcomes. The research results endorsed the fact that perceived organizational support and organizational justice are the determinants of organizational commitment as both are positively related with organizational commitment. As a consequence, current study also supports that a committed knowledge worker not only has least intention to leave the organization but is also willing to share his/her knowledge with peers and organizations. It is because that organizational commitment is negatively related with turnover intention and positively related with knowledge sharing intentions. The results of this research are also worthwhile for management of public and private hospitals to determine how they can retain knowledge workers by addressing key factors necessary to keep their commitment level high.

Comparative Analysis of Classifiers for Prediction of Epileptic Seizures

Epilepsy is a neurological disease in which people suffer from seizure attack and lose the normal function of brain. Almost 50 million people have epilepsy in the world due to which it has become the most common neurological disease. Early prediction of epilepsy helps patients to avoid epilepsy and live normal life. Many studies have been conducted for the early prediction of epilepsy. However, selection of the most appropriate classifier has always been a question that needs to be resolved. In this study, we are using six classifiers of machine learning which are KNN, Naïve Bayes, Linear Classification Model, Discriminant Analysis Model, Support Vector Machine and Decision Tree, to find the best classifier for the prediction of epileptic seizures, in term of accuracy. Dataset from “Kaggle” was used. Preprocessing and cross-validation of the data was carried out for training and testing of classifiers. The results depict that Naive Bayes classifier has a better average accuracy of 95.739% as compared to other classifiers. The future work of this study is to implement the suggested model in real time, so that the workload of medical members could be reduced.

Effectiveness of Physical Therapy of Primary Dysmenorrhea Among Female Students

Primary dysmenorrhea is a serious public health issue with high prevalence. It affects physical and mental health which in turn influences daily activities, quality of life, and work productivity. OBJECTIVES The current study was undertaken to determine the most effective method among three physical therapy techniques for primary dysmenorrhea The main objectives of the study were to find out and compare the effects of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation on pain, depression, and quality of life in students with primary dysmenorrhea. MATERIAL AND METHODS This randomized controlled trial involved ninety-nine diagnosed cases of primary dysmenorrhea with age between 16 and 25. Subjects were selected through convenience sampling and randomly allocated by lottery method into three groups: Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator group (A), Stretch group (B), and Stretch group (C). The group A was treated with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator while stretch groups B and C were treated with homebased stretching exercises in asymptomatic phase and symptomatic phase respectively. The data was collected through self-structured questionnaire for demographics, numeric pain rating scale for pain, daily record of severity of problems for symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea, short form-36 for health related quality of life, patient health questionnaire for depression and visual analogue scale for satisfaction level. Data was collected for three successive menstrual vi cycles at baseline and at end of each cycle. Patient compliance was high due to enthusiasm of participants. Intervention-induced changes within the groups were investigated using repeated measure analysis of variance while one-way Analysis of variance was used to compare the groups. Linear regression has been used for prediction of pain and DRSP with different domains of quality of life and level of depression.
