Human Resource Capital is the most integral part of any organization. Retention of human resources is a critical issue these days. Keeping in view the importance of human capital and its retention, present study aimed to explore the impact of two strong predictors, job satisfaction and organizational commitment, on turnover intentions of employees in banking sector of Pakistan. 250 Survey questionnaires are distributed through convenience sampling in Islamic and Conventional banks to elicit responses of professionals among which 207 questionnaires are returned and used for analysis. Linear regression analysis is conducted to recognize the impact of job satisfaction and organizational commitment on turnover intentions. Findings reveal surprisingly contradictory results from previous studies. Job Satisfaction and organizational commitment are having very negligible impact on turnover intentions. However, similar to previous studies both job satisfaction and organizational commitment are negatively correlated with turnover intentions. The study discovered that turnover intentions of employees in banking sector of Pakistan depend on various other factors too. Results reveal that although students are not much satisfied neither they are much committed with the organization but still they have minimal intention towards leaving the organization. Results are surprising but the paradox can be understood by keeping in view few demographics of respondents as well as the economic condition of the country. The study has significant decision-making suggestions for banks that they are urgently required to look for those critical influential factors that largely affect the turnover intentions of their employees. In addition, banks also need to apply measures to enhance the job satisfaction and organizational commitment of their valuable employees in order to gain sustainable competitive advantage by making them more efficient and productive.

Critical Study of Moral Teachings of Islam and Buddhism for Promotion of Global Peace

All ancient and contemporary religions of the world like Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, Jainism and Islam emphasizes and attempts to uphold the highest moral and ethical values in human society in order to produce discipline and good will. Some of the religions strictly command for proper observance and submission to the laws and cannons", whereas the other religions do not stipulate strict allegiance to its principals, yet they nourish and treat human emotions and direct them for the general good of the society. On the whole, all religions aim at moral and ethical uplift of human beings, to install positivity in them and imbues the spirit of sacrifice, equality, affection, brotherhood and justice in mankind. Thus, these all facts testify that all religions, with some differences of pattern, propagate the message of love, Peace, equality, brotherhood, justice, Harmony and equity in the material age and greed-ridden epoch where individual profits and benefit overwhelm collective cause and general welfare of mankind. What we have done here in this paper is not to establish that one religion is better than the other but to demonstrate that almost all world religions stand for love, peace and harmony. There is no doubt, that all religions preach and advocate positive harmony among human beings but the message of Holy Prophet (SAW) is the only example who gave practical aspect of these theories. However, this paper elaborates this reality by a detailed comparison of Islam and Buddhism.

Exploiting the Market Inefficiencies: the Case of Single Stock Futures Arbitrage at Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited

This study examines the pricing efficiency of the derivatives segment of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), particularly the Single Stock Futures (SSF), to look for the arbitrage opportunities. Futures provide profit-making opportunities to the arbitragers if these contracts are being traded above or below their theoretical fair price. A positive mispricing helps to get a riskless profit by selling the futures and buying the underlying stock and negative mispricing yields through buying the futures and selling the underlying stock. These contracts are available for more than forty individual stocks listed on PSX that are selected biannually through uniform selection criteria. The analysis is piloted on one-year data collected from twenty-two firms, engaged in stock futures trading on PSX. Summary statistics confirmed numerous instances of deviation of these future contracts from their fair prices calculated by the cost of carry formula. Though negative deviations were greater in magnitude, positive deviations were relatively more in frequency, leading to the conclusion that SSFs are generally sold on premium in our stock market and arbitrage trading is easier in this market. Results of random effect Tobit model indicated that behavior of price deviations in SSFs can be determined by different factors. It is observed that absolute mispricing increases with the increasing time to maturity of these contracts. Increasing price bands are also associated with increasing volatility of underlying stock. Absolute mispricing behaves differently for liquidity, as measured by trading volume, of futures and their underlying stock. Lower liquidity of underlying stock and higher liquidity of SSFs increases the mispricing spreads. Open interest cannot significantly explain the behavior of mispricing.
