This study examines the impact of free cash flow on performance of textile industry of Pakistan, in the light of free cash flow hypothesis stated by Jensen (1986).A sample of sixty seven (67) textile companies listed at Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has been used for a period of six years from 2012 to 2017.Return on Assets (ROA) is used as a measure of Performance, a dependent variable.Free Cash Flow (FCF) is an independent variable of the study; three control variables i.e. Financial Leverage, Firm Size and Firm Growth are also included in the analysis. The findings of the studyare based on regression analysis of entire industry and its subsectors (i.e. composite, spinning and weaving). The results show significant positive relationship between free cash flow and performance and significant negative relationship between financial leverage and performance in entire textile industry and in its subsectors as well. Findings of the study also have implications for various stakeholders of the industry.

اسلام میں سد ذرائع کی اہمیت

The Islamic laws prevent us from the evil deeds. As well as, according to Shariah, it is permissible and sometimes even compulsory to save the believers from the actions that may lead them towards the banned activities. Therefore, the ruling of prohibition from these types of activities is called Sadd-e-Zaree’a. This is the principle extracted from the Quran and Sunnah. As Almighty Allah forbade the believers to say ‘Ra’ina’ because this word was used by Jews knowingly in a wrong manner with evil intentions, whereas, Muslims presented their requests by this same word in the highest court of The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for seeking easiness and relaxation in their concerned matters. As in Quran: O People who Believe, do not say (to the Prophet Mohammed- peace and blessings be upon him), " Ra’ina (Be considerate towards us)" but say, " Unzurna (Look mercifully upon us)", and listen attentively in the first place. [Baqarah 2: 104]. (To disrespect the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him – is blasphemy.) Another example by Hadith, in this regard, it is also evidenced by the good character of The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that sometimes He stopped himself intentionally from the permissible activities lest the common masses may involve in undesired activities on the basis of The Holy Prophet’s act. Concisely, keen consideration is required on rational basis when explaining the Shariah rulings of any matter. Otherwise, the beauty andbenefits of the Shariah may be lost. Consequently, to prevent from the future turmoil is actually the spirit of Sadd-e-Zaree’ah. As this is the actually basic need and prerequisite of Shariah. It saves and prevents its believers form expected turmoil. Therefore, if the risk of turmoil would trigger with committing the permissible activity it must be abandoned due to the risk of turmoil.

The Image of Colonized Muslim in Postcolonial Novel: A Comparative Study of E. M. Forster, Ahmad Ali, and Qurat-Ul-Ain Haider

The research investigates the nature and form of the colonial encounter in colonial and postcolonial fiction in the Subcontinent. The colonial fiction develops the stereotypes of the colonized whereas these stereotypes are challenged by the postcolonial counter-discourse. The representation of the colonized Muslim in India in the colonial discourse is a stereotype which is a jumble of fact and fiction. The identity of the colonized Muslim is established in the counter-discourse by the Muslim fiction writers in the Subcontinent. Their representation of the colonized Muslim counters the representation of the colonial discourse. The focus of the research is to draw a comparison between the two representations to investigate the nature of colonial encounter between the West and the Indian Muslims. Situated in the postcolonial theoretical perspective, the researcher has analyzed the novels of E. M. Forster, Ahmad Ali and Qurratulain Hyder to understand the identity of the colonized Muslims in the Subcontinent. Chapter one sets out the nature and the scope of the work, explaining the purpose of examining the representation of the colonized Muslims in the postcolonial novel, and outlining the theoretical context and the orientation of the study. The theoretical framework of the research and the methodology are also explained. The method of the investigation in this research has been a combination of the narrative analysis and the critical discourse analysis. Chapter two explores the postcolonial perspective of the research explaining the issues in the postcolonial theory regarding the identity of the colonized people. In this regard the various models of the postcolonial literature are discussed. Chapter three describes and interprets the text of A Passage to India to explore the stereotypes of the colonized Muslims in the colonial discourse. Chapter four and five describe and interpret the texts of Twilight in Delhi and River of Fire respectively, to explore the modes of writing back the colonial discourse in the postcolonial counter-discourse. Chapter six compares the representation of the colonized Muslims in the three novels and draws conclusions. The identity of the colonized Muslims appears to be discursively constructed, multilayered and polyphonic, and dialogically constructed in the power struggle in the colonial world.
