The present study was carried out in District Swat for a period of 7 months from January to July, 2017. For the current study the blood samples were collected from patients visiting the hospital, malaria diagnostic labs and District Head Quarter Hospital Laboratory showing symptoms for malaria disease belonging to all age groups and recommended for blood test for the diagnosis of malaria disease by the physician in the hospitals of Swat. The information (name, gender, age and residence) were gathered on a printed proforma from the local patients. About 1050 patients were examined for this study and malaria was detected through microscopy of thick and thin blood smears and rapid diagnostic test of which 118 were found to be infected with malaria parasite showing about 11.24% prevalence of malaria. Data was also collected from other labs of District Swat which makes it a total of 9255 patients studied in the current among which 932 patients were found positive for malaria parasite in the whole district showing a prevalence rate of 10.07%. Out of the total 932 infected blood samples 558 of them were male (59.87%) while 374 were female (40.13%). The collective data for District Swat showed majority of the infected patients belonged to age group 1-10 years (41.42%). The least infected age groups were aged above 60 years (0.86%). Malaria parasite was found highest in the months of July (39.48%) i.e. summer season and lowest in the month of February (2.25%) i.e. winter months. Patients tested for malaria parasite belonged to the following seven (7) Tehsils wherein the rate of positive infected cases in these 7 Tehsils in descending order was: Barikot > Kabal > Babuzai > Matta > Khwazakhela> Charbagh> Bahrain. It is concluded from this study that P.vivax is the prevalent malaria causing parasite in district Swat. No case of P.falciparum was recorded. Furthermore male are infected more than female, and malaria is common in children, teenagers and youth of the area. Moreover, it is of great importance that campaigns regarding awareness of malaria are run regularly in the district and most importantly malaria control programme should be regularly financed. Though these precautionary procedures or administrating suitable therapeutic options cannot be regarded as sufficient to control, let alone eradicate malaria. In order to maintain low prevalence of malaria and avoid any mortality it is important to bring a change in the social and personal behavior of individuals which might be difficult but is of prime importance at the same time. Keeping these points in notice, further study is recommended on effectively applied interventions, concentrating majorly on behavioral adaptations and approaches of assessing their efficiency must be expanded.

الشيخ حافظ محمد إدريس وأسلوبه في تفسيره كشاف القرآن

Pashtun Ulama have always been in the service of Islam. The origin of Pashtun people in Pakistan is the province of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa formerly known is North West Frontier Province (NWFP). Pashtun Ulama have served Islam on different fronts; some have done Jihad against the non-Muslims, some of them have offered their services in the field of Islamic education, ie, teaching in Madrassas, while some have served Islam via their writing commentary of Qur’ān, explanation of Ḥadīth and juristic problems. This article discusses the worthy contributions of one of the great commentators of Qur’ān Shaykh Ḥāfiẓ Muḥammad Idrīs, who belonged to Mardan in the Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, He lived in the 19th century. The article encompasses a detailed biography of the writer and his worthy contribution in serving Qur’ān, Islam and Muslims focusing on his commentary on Qur’ān in Pashto language named as “Kashshāf Al Qur’ān”. The method used for the research is descriptive and qualitative. The review literature showed that such an esteemed and vigorous scientist of different sciences of Qur’ān and his valuable contributions are out of the reach of scholars and libraries that may lead to an irreparable loss of the Islamic legacy. The study came up with the outcomes of his efforts in the field exegesis of Qur’ān, and the way and pattern he followed in interpreting different meanings of the revealed literature. The study would help out Islamic scholars and will enrich the domain of the Qur’ān’s research with new thoughts and viewpoints

Effect of Synectics Model of Teaching on Understanding of Mathematical Concepts of Students of Grade Eight

Mathematics education faces a lot of problems all over the world. Students often consider it a dull and a bore subject and their achievement in this subject is often poor. They only rely on memorization without paying attention to underlying concepts. Without learning concepts there is no comprehension and no cognitive development. Present study is an attempt to utilize and apply Synectics Model of teaching for mathematical concept understanding of students of grade eight. It was a type of quasi experimental study and Nonequivalent Control Group design was used. It was eleven-week long study. The subjects were two intact groups of 8th class, Control group (N=35) and experimental group (N=33) taken from two typical public high schools of district Haripur, KP, during session 2016-17. The instrument used in the study was a self-developed achievement test, developed on the idea of Constructed Response Questions (CRQ) from three units of 8th class mathematics textbook of KP Textbook Board Peshawar.A parallel form of the instrument from unit one was also constructed on the above mentioned pattern. The data was collected and analyzed using appropriate software. The statistical techniques as mean, standard deviation, t-test for independent and paired samples and repeated measure ANOVA were used. The results of the study revealed that after analogy integrated lessons students were able to: (i) redefine the concept in new way using their own words, (ii) relate learnt knowledge to their daily life, (iii) apply learnt knowledge in daily life, (iv) analyze and synthesize the concept, and (v) comprehend abstract concepts.
