Phytochemical Investigations on the Constituents of Perovskia Abrotanoides

This plant is excessively used in Unani and Ayurvedic system of medicine for the treatment of gonorrhea, typhoid, headache, toothache, motion, vomiting, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, liver fibrosis and cough. It has antiseptic, sedative, analgesic and cooling effect. Infectious problems and painful urinations has been cured by using herbal tea of this plant.We have selected plant Perovskia abrotanoides for the identification of medicinally active constituents present in it. From the chloroform and ethyl acetate soluble fractions of Perovskia abrotanoides twenty one compounds have been isolated from the plant out of which six were unknown and fifteen natural products were identified as known compounds. Their structures were elucidated by the use of sophisticated modern spectroscopic techniques (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HMBC, HMQC, 1H-1H- COSY, NOESY, HREIMS and HR-FAB-MS) and different chemical tests.
