پروفیسر گیان چند جین کی وفات اردو دنیا کا بڑا سانحہ ہے، وہ اردو کے صف اول کے ادیب، محقق اور ماہر لسانیات تھے، ان کا انتقال ۱۷؍ اگست ۲۰۰۷ء کو امریکہ میں ہوا، وہ ۱۹؍ دسمبر ۱۹۲۳ء کو ضلع بجنور کے سیو ہارہ قصبے میں پیدا ہوئے تھے، یہیں اور مراد آباد میں ابتدائی تعلیم ہوئی، پھر وہاں سے حصول تعلیم کے لیے آگرہ گئے اور ۱۹۴۵ء میں الٰہ آباد یونیورسٹی سے فرسٹ ڈویژن اور فرسٹ پوزیشن میں ایم، اے پاس کیا، ۱۹۴۷ء میں ان کے تحقیقی مقالے ’’اردو کی نثری داستانیں‘‘ پر انہیں پی ایچ ڈی کی تفویض کی گئی۔
۱۹۵۰ء میں انگریزی روزنامہ ’’پانیئر‘‘ کے معاون مدیر ہوئے لیکن اسی سال جولائی میں حمیدیہ کالج بھوپال میں اردو لکچرر کی حیثیت سے ان کا تقرر ہوا جس کے بعد وہ مدۃ العمر درس و تدریس ہی کی خدمت انجام دیتے رہے اور ایک لائق اور نیک نام استاد کی حیثیت سے شہرت پائی، انہوں نے ملک کی مختلف یونیورسٹیوں بھوپال، حیدرآباد، الٰہ آباد اور جموں وغیرہ میں پروفیسر اور صدر شعبہ اردو کی حیثیت سے خدمت انجام دی، سبکدوش ہونے کے بعد حیدرآباد اور لکھنو یونیورسٹی میں یوجی سی فیلو ایمیریٹس کی حیثیت سے ان کی خدمات سے فائدہ اٹھایا گیا، لکھنو اندرا نگر میں بودوباش اختیار کرلی تھی، اسی زمانے میں اپنے بعض تحقیقی کاموں کے سلسلے میں مجھے بھی خطوط لکھے تھے، ایک گرامی نامے میں یہ دریافت کیا تھا کہ مولانا عبدالسلام ندوی مرحوم کی کتاب ’’شعرالہند‘‘ پہلی مرتبہ کب شائع ہوئی تھی، یہاں جب ان کی طبیعت زیادہ خراب رہنے لگی تو وہ امریکہ چلے گئے تھے۔ جہاں ان کے بیٹے اور بیٹی رہتی تھیں۔

In the early days of Islam, either of the married couple entering into Islam does not affect their marriage contract and it continued to be valid even after the Emigration of the Holy Prophet (peace and mercy be upon him) to Madina. In fact, it has been observed until Hudhabiya Truce was signed. It was also included the terms if someone from Quraish without accompanying the wali approaches the Holy Prophet (Peaceand Mercy be upon him), he/she will be returned to Makkah. After this agreement, many women came to Madina and embraced Islam. But their spouses and relatives followed them their way to Madina. They claimed them back to Makkah. In this respect, Allah almighty revealed a verse of Surah Mumtahina, which is an express evidence that such believing women must not be returned to their former infidel husbands. They were commanded so to marry believing husbands after their separation from their disbelieving spouses. Through this verse, Muslim husbands were forbidden to stay and have conjugal relations with their nonbelieving wives, too. Similarly, every believing wife was forbidden to reside with her disbelieving husband. The companions abided by the ruling in its entirety and separated from their non- believing spouses. Jurists have derived many instructions from the verse 10 of Surah Mumtahina, which are discussed in this paper.
In this study, I have attempted to introduce Patterns' in teaching algebra at the lower secondary level in a Government school. The study was conducted in one of the government schools in Karachi. The purpose of this study was to find out the possibilities and constraints in using patterns' as a technique in the teaching of algebra. The study was based on the qualitative paradigm of research. It was designed as an action research, and carried out in the form of case studies of three mathematics teachers of the lower secondary classes. Among the major findings of the study was that teaching of algebra through patterns' can improve the quality of teaching and learning in the mathematics classes. The use of patterns' can also contribute to positive changes in the attitudes of teachers towards the teaching of algebra, and likewise the attitudes of students towards learning of algebra. The study takes note of some of the constraints and challenges in using patterns' in teaching algebra, and makes recommendations for introducing this method to the teachers and students of mathematics.
