انسان ماں کی گود سے گور تک سیکھنے کے عمل سے گزر تا ہے ۔ویسے بھی یو نیورسٹی کا طالبعلم تھا اور زندگی مطالعے کے بجائے مشاہدے میں گزرگئی ۔ضیاء الحق کے دور میں عدالتوں کے اختیارات معطل تھے اور تمام سیاسی قیدی فوجی حکمرانوں کے حکم کے پابند تھے ۔

جنرل جیلانی پنجاب کا گورنر تھا اور اسمبلی حال مارشل لاء ہیڈ کواٹر تھا جو اس وقت کے چیف آف سٹاف ٹو گورنر پنجاب کے کنٹرول میں تھا وہاں سے نظر بندیوں کے حکم جا ری ہو تے تھے ۔جس کی مدت تین ماہ ہو تی اور اس کی مدت ختم ہونے سے پہلے ہی اگلے تین ماہ کا حکم نامہ جا ری کر دیا جاتا۔محمد علی ایکٹر کو ڈسٹرکٹ جیل جھنگ منتقل کر دیا گیا اور سب پر ایسے گزری کہ جیسے خاندان کو ئی فرد بچھڑ رہا ہو ۔

جیل میں شہید ذوالفقار علی بھٹوکی برسی منائی گئی اور یکم مئی پر بھی ایک تقریب کا انعقاد کیا گیا طوالت کے خوف سے تفصیل نہیں لکھ رہا تین ماہ پورے ہوئے تو اگلے تین ماہ کی نظر بندی کا پروانہ آگیا ۔کچھ وقت گزرنے کے بعد جیل کے حکام کی طرف سے پیغام ملا کہ پیچھے سے حکم ہے کہ جو شخص معافی نامہ اور نیک چلنی کی ضمانت دے گا وہ جیل سے رہا ہو سکتا ہے ۔

جیل کے لان میں تمام نظر بند قیدیوںکی میٹنگ ہوئی ملک محمد حسین ایڈوکیٹ اور دوسرے جیل کے ساتھیوں نے احتجاج کیا کہ ان کی شرائط پر کوئی رہائی حاصل نہیں کرے گا ۔جسٹس سعید حسین اپنے مزاج کے انسان تھے انہوں نے اختلاف کیا اور پنجابی میں کہا

It goes without saying that peace has been a hot issue in the past; it is, still, a vital topic of discussion today, and it seems to continue to draw the attention of people in the future. We witness wars and destructions in several parts of the world. This has led to killings of millions of people, left innumerable number of families broken and displaced millions of people. We need to address it earnestly. The author of this dissertation has specified this topic with reference to the Holy Qur’ān, because being the book of Allāh Almighty, it means to us as the final constitution, the ultimate torchlight for our guidance, and a great blessing to the whole world. Peace means to be free from the calamities in this world and in the hereafter. Usually, peace is used to imply an opposition to war and violence between the nations. Peace is a virtue and it means absence of evil, and, therefore, it is always praiseworthy. The author of this paper deals with this topic by dividing it into six sections. These are, ‘The Peace’ as one of the divine names of Allāh Almighty; Peace equals good; Peace is praiseworthy; Peace in the sense of conciliation and security; Peace in the sense of customary Islamic salutation; and Refutation of the objection that Islām was spread by sword.

The Use of a Virtual Learning Environment for Teaching Reading and Writing in English to Syrian Students

Technology supported teaching and learning environments are fast replacing the conventional face-to-face classes throughout the world. The situation is no different in Syria. However, research on educational use of technologies in Syrian context is limited. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to explore the use of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for teaching reading and writing in English to a group of learners in Syria. Action research was adopted for the study. One cycle of action research could be completed which comprised four phases, i.e.; action planning, action taking, action monitoring and action evaluation. A VLE was created by using a combination of different technology tools such as a wiki and survey tool. Nine learners from the researcher's home city Salamieh, Syria participated in this study. Data were collected through online written semi-structured interviews, observation, reflective journal, test, and learners' work and reflection. The key findings of the study suggest that a teacher can create a VLE by selecting the available tools. VLE offers flexibility for learners who cannot avail formal education opportunities for themselves. Tasks that appeared suitable for reading and writing via VLE were those where learners were able to learn collectively. ICT tools used in the study were suitable for all stages of reading and writing processes. The facilitating factors of using VLE include the potential of VLE to provide individualized and instant learning opportunity. The study also showed that while learners lacked theoretical knowledge about ICT, they knew how to use these tools. Furthermore, a VLE can be used to promote collaboration and group work between learners. Issues related to poor ICT infrastructure and lack of reliable access to Internet in Syria and Pakistan posed problems. These findings have implications for how reading and writing in English could be taught in the Syrian context. Face-to-face activities can be modified to become suitable for VLE. Teacher education programmes will need to be modified to make room for the use of ICT for language teaching purposes. Recommendations for future research include determining the potential of VLEs for encouraging collaborative language learning. Other areas of research are also identified.
