مولانا اسلم صاحب جیراج پوری
مولوی اقبال احمد خاں صاحب سہیل کی وفات کا حادثہ ابھی تازہ تھا کہ اعظم گڑھ کی ایک اور نامور شخصیت اٹھ گئی، اور ملک کے مشہور مصنف اور صاحب قلم مولانا اسلم صاحب جیراج پوری نے ۲۸؍ دسمبر کو انتقال کیا، ان کا وطن اعظم گڑھ کا مشہور گاؤں جیراجپور تھا، ان کے والد مولانا سلامت اﷲ صاحب جماعت اہل حدیث کے ممتاز علماء میں تھے، نواب صدیق حسن خان نے بھوپال میں جن علماء کو جمع کیا تھا، ان میں ایک مولانا سلامت اﷲ صاحب بھی تھے، وہ بھوپال کے عربی مدارس کے مہتمم تھے، اس لیے مولانا اسلم صاحب کی تعلیم و تربیت وہیں ہوئی، تکمیل تعلیم کے بعد وہ پیسہ اخبار لاہور کے علماء ادارت میں شامل ہوگئے، پھر علی گڑھ کالجڈ اسکول میں عربی کے مدرس ہوئے، کچھ دنوں تک لٹن لائبریری کے شعبہ مشرقیات کے نگراں رہے، اور عربی فارسی کتابوں کی فہرست مرتب کی، مسلم یونیورسٹی قائم ہونے کے بعد شعبہ عربی کے لکچرر ہوگئے، پھر جامعہ ملیہ کے قیام کے بعد یونیورسٹی سے قطع تعلق کرکے جامعہ ملیہ چلے آئے اور تاریخ اسلام کے پروفیسر مقرر ہوئے، اور آخر عمر تک جامعہ سے وابستہ رہے، اور بالآخر اسی کی خاک کا پیوند ہوئے۔
مرحوم صاحب علم و نظر عالم تھے، اگرچہ ان کی تعلیم پرانے اور پھر اہل حدیث کے ماحول میں ہوئی تھی لیکن وہ بڑے روشن خیال اور زمانہ کے حالات و رجحانات سے باخبر تھے، اور کسی سوسائٹی میں اجنبی نہیں معلوم ہوتے تھے، تالیف و تصنیف کا ذوق ابتداء سے تھا، اسلامی تاریخ پر تاریخ الامت، سوانح عمرو بن العاصؓ، تاریخ نجد، حیات حافظ، اور حیات جامی وغیرہ بہت سی کتابیں لکھیں، ان میں تاریخ الامت زیادہ مقبول ہوئی، ان کے مضامین کا ایک مجموعہ نوادرات کے نام سے...

Islamic Charity and Social Development in Pakistan

“Whoever extinguishes the fire of the greed of “Nafs (self)” gets prosperous” is the leitmotif of Quran. Islam in its best is the religion of the oppressed, even itsworships rather than mere rituals are conduit of socioeconomic and political justice a panacea to social development. Prayers of community stay hypocritical ifpoverty, destitution and oppression prevail in community. Quran crushes the spirit of acquisitiveness and strikes moral order based on socio-economic andpolitical justice. For social equilibrium charity, Zakat and Sadaqat are recurrent theme of Quran. To the Dreamer and the Architect, Pakistan was poised tobecome an Islamic welfare state. So, this paper intends to portray what is needed to eliminate social inequalities in the social fabric of the state. What the people and the state ought to do in the light of Islamic ideals? To Shah Wali Allah, Zakat is a sure enough recipe to run a state and strike social equilibrium if employed to the spirit of Quran.

Teachers Alternate Conceptions About the Concept of Physical Changes in Terms of Particulate Nature of Matter

The teaching of science has undergone many changes over the years depending on how the functions of science have been viewed. According to the constructivist philosophy children do not come to class with empty minds. They have rich ideas or conceptions about the world around them. These views often differ from the 'scientific view' and therefore are called children's alternative conceptions. In the same way teachers also possess alternate conceptions. Alternative conceptions (ACs) refer to children's and adults' understanding of a concept that differs in significant ways from the commonly accepted scientific understanding of that concept. The focus of the study was to explore alternative conceptions of science teachers of two government schools on the topic 'Physical changes in terms of particulate nature of matter' which was selected from the science textbook of class VII. Besides exploring teachers' alternative conceptions I also investigated the possible reasons for the existence of the ACs and their effect on childrens' learning. The sample of the study consisted of four science teachers and twelve of their students. Several tools were used in the study including, teachers' classroom observations; three questionnaires called ‘learning experience sheet’, ‘recalling experience sheet' and task sheet'; and in-depth interviews based on the Interviews-About-Instances' teachings. Classroom observations, learning experience sheets, task sheets and interviews helped me to explore both the teachers' and childrens' conceptions about the topic, possible reasons for then holding these alternate conceptions and possible effects of ACs on children's learning. Through this research I became more aware of the ways in which children perceived their teachers' alternative conceptions. The data indicated that teachers' alternative conceptions closely resemble those of children. The study data revealed that teachers' superficial learning is influenced by textbooks, daily life experiences, lack of hands-on activities, and the lack of ability to reflect upon their teaching.
