English has become a global language and virtually every nation is using it for national or international communication. It is helping the world to bridge the ethnic and linguistic differences. Although it has got international status, it is also exhibiting local cultural traits. It enjoys global ownership and the age old concept that it only reflects the Judo-Christian cultural traditions has been rejected at least by the language scholars around the globe. In this evolutionary process, new dialects and varieties are emerging. A plethora of research activity, in line with the ‘World Englishes’ tradition, is being conducted around the globe. The issues like status of the newly emerging varieties of English and the similarities and differences between the native and nativised varieties, are being vigorously studied. English, in Pakistan, enjoys the status of a privileged official language. English is being used both for country internal as well as external functions. English language has been nativised in Pakistan. Pakistani English is similar to British and American English to the extent that it does not impede communication but it has developed a flavor and colour of its own. Pakistani English is not a well researched variety. Only a handful of research studies have been conducted so far, pointing to some of the variety specific features, but all of these researches are intuition based or have relied on chance examples. No quantitative data based comparative study of the variety exists till to-date. The present research is an attempt to make a corpus based analysis of Pakistani English and to find some characteristic features of the variety which are different from the British and American varieties. It is basically a quantitative, corpus based comparative research. Two million words corpora, each from Pakistani, British and American written Englishes have been employed to outline the characteristic features of Pakistani English. The research question, ‘Whether Pakistani English is an independent variety’, has not been completely answered by the present research as the data available was not sufficient enough to make any conclusive judgement. But it is still considered a step forward, in the sense that in this research corpus based methodology has been used to study the variety specific features of Pakistani English. On the one hand, it has verified some of the earlier judgements about Pakistani English and on the other hand it has pointed out the new areas which have not been discussed in the previous literature about Pakistani English. Some of the areas like the use of subjunctive, verb particle, and complementation have been explored by the linguists to study the distinctive features of the non native varieties. The same has been done in the case of Pakistani English and the results indicate that these areas show potential differences among the native varieties, i.e. British and American Englishes, and the Pakistani English which need to be explored further. The results point out that Pakistani English is an independent, systematic, and rule governed variety which shares features both with the British and American Englishes.

Effectiveness of Digital Health Services: Challenges and Constraints for Society

This article discusses the effectiveness of digital health services by looking at the challenges and obstacles for society. One form of public services implemented by the government for the community is meeting the need for quality public services and having an orientation to the effectiveness of services to the community that are needed. In the health sector itself, advances in information technology have greatly supported health services. This online system is of high quality to be implemented because the public and members of the medical system can receive and provide detailed and fast information with the help of computerized technology. Information technology has reached various fields of life including the health sector to help the efficiency and effectiveness of health services. Information technology that is properly implemented can support the management process to be effective and efficient. The corona pandemic is changing people's habits in visiting and consulting doctors at hospitals. However, digital-based health services have not been effectively accepted by the public from various service units. They still need improvements in terms of connectivity, content and clarity of regulations.

Exploring the Determinants of Web Mining and Their Evaluations in Online Reviews

Online customer reviews have become electronic word of mouth for the current generations. The product reviews play an important role in customer‘s purchase decision making process. However, there are thousands of reviews constantly being posted for online products on e-commerce websites. It is very difficult for buyers to read all the reviews before purchase decisions. Review helpfulness is attracting increasing attention of practitioners and academics. It helps in reducing risks and uncertainty faced by users in online shopping. In this dissertation, three solutions are proposed to develop an effective model for review helpfulness prediction. i.e. 1) Influences of discrete emotions embedded in review text on review helpfulness are investigated, 2) Review helpfulness as a function of linguistic, psychological, summary language, and reviewer features is examined, and 3) Significant product, review and reviewer characteristics are explored to determine the review helpfulness. For discrete emotions, an algorithm is presented that extracts four positive and four negative discrete emotions from review text using National Research Council (NRC) emotion lexicon. An effective helpfulness prediction model is build using deep neural network. The findings reveal that Trust, Joy and Anticipation (positive emotions); Anxiety and Sadness (negative emotions) are most influential emotion dimensions and have greater impact on perceived helpfulness. Secondly, the utility of linguistic, psychological, summary language and reviewer characteristics are investigated and an effective review helpfulness prediction model is constructed using stochastic gradient boosting algorithm. The results reveal that reviewer helpfulness per day and syllables in review text strongly relates to review helpfulness. Moreover, the number of space, aux verb, drives words in review text and productivity score of a reviewer are also effective predictors of review helpfulness. Thirdly, influences of important variables by exploring not only the review content indicators but also significant indicators of reviewer and product that contribute to review helpfulness are explored. The influence of product type (search and experience goods) on review helpfulness is also examined and reviews of search goods show strong relationship to review helpfulness. The findings indicate that polarity of review title, sentiment and polarity of review text and cosine similarity between review text and product title effectively contribute to the helpfulness of online reviews.
