Behavioral problems in children are likely to have detrimental effects on child’s social, personal and academic functioning (Walsh, Murrell, Scherbarth, & Kubiak, 2009). Reliable and valid identification of behavioral problems in children should incorporate parent and teacher report regarding child’s behaviors. The present study was carried out to develop an indigenous dual informant rating scale (parent report scale and teacher report scale) for measuring behavioral problems of primary school children, with the aim to identify correlates and predictors of behavioral problems in primary school children. These objectives were achieved in a series of three independent studies. In study 1, parents, teachers, school psychologists and child psychiatrists were contacted to generate list of problem behaviors of the children aged 5 to 11 years. Standardized behavioral problems scales developed in the West and clinical case studies were also reviewed to generate an independent pool of 90 items each for parent report scale and for teacher report scale. The factorial validity based on a sample of parents of 443 primary school children was obtained. Similarly, factorial validity of the teacher report scale based on a sample of 446 teachers of primary school children was obtained. Both the scales showed high Cronbach’s alpha. In study 2, construct validity for both the scales was determined by calculating construct and concurrent validities. Both the scales showed good construct and concurrent validities. In study 3, correlates and predictors of behavioral problems in primary school children were assessed on a sample of 240 children. Correlates of behavioral problems of these children were determined with demographic information form and social information processing scale, “Home Interview with the Child” (Dodge, 1986). Behavioral problems were assessed by the scales developed by the researcher. The results showed that gender, age of the child, maternal age, parental education, socioeconomic status and academic performance of the child were significant correlates of behavioral problems. Multiple regression analysis revealed aggressive response generation in XIX social information processing, parents’ education and gender of the child as predictors of behavioral problems on both parent report scale and teacher report scale. Results of this study are in line with existing literature on children’s behavioral problems. The implications of the results of current research on behavioral problems of primary school children in Pakistan are discussed.

ناظرین کو یہ معلوم کر کے افسوس ہوگا کہ دفتر دارالمصنفین کے منصرم یحییٰ صاحب اعظمی نے چند دنوں کی علالت کے بعد ۲۲؍ فروری کو انتقال کیا، وہ عمر بھر دارالمصنفین سے وابستہ رہے اور مرکر اس سے جدا ہوئے، مرحوم بڑے متدین اور دفتری کاموں میں تجربہ کار تھے، ہزاروں روپیے کا کاروبار ان کے ہاتھ میں تھا اور کبھی ایک حبہ کا فرق نہیں نکلتا تھا، ایسے قابل اعتماد آدمی مشکل سے ملیں گے، طبیعت میں حد سے زیادہ نظافت و نفاست تھی، بڑی صاف ستھری زندگی بسر کرتے تھے، ان کا دفتری کام بھی بڑا صاف ستھرا تھا، خشک دفتری کاموں کے ساتھ خوشگو شاعر بھی تھے، ان کے کلام کے دو مجموعے ’’نوائے حیات‘‘ اور ’’نوائے عصر‘‘ شائع ہوچکے ہیں، اﷲ تعالیٰ ان کی مغفرت فرمائے۔

الأسلوب الخطابي في حِكَم نهج البلاغة: دراسة موضوعية

يقوم الخطاب الأدبي على عنصرين أساسيين، وهما: (الصوت والمعنى)، إذ أنّ أحدهمالا ينفكّ عن الآخر، وبلحاظ الترابط ما بين هذين العنصرين نتلمّس أنّ الخطابة: هي ذلك الفن الّذي يتوقّف تحققه على المواجهة والمشافهة، حيث أنّ الإلقاء يؤثر بشكل ملحوظ على المتلقّي، موازنة بالكيفيّة الّتي يكون بها المتلقّي مع الكتابة، بالتالي فإنّ حجم التأثير النّفسي والعاطفي والتركيز والشّد الذهني حين الاستماع إلى خطبة معيّنة أكبر عند المتلقّي ممّا هوَ عليه حين القراءة لسطور معيّنة. لذا فإن إبداع المتكلّم يتحقّق في التكلّم بخطبة ما، وهذا بحد ذاته إنما هوَ استظهار للعمق الدلالي والفكري، والاستعمال الفنّي للأدوات الصّوتية، وأصدق تمثيل لما تقدّم هو الاستماع إلى الشعر والنثر. وموضوع بحثنا هوَ الأسلوب الخطابي لفارس الخطابة ومنشأها، الّذياجتمع فيه ما لم يجتمع في غيره، حتى بلغ أسلوبه من الصدق مستوىً ترفّع به عن السّجع المتكلّف، فبأسلوبه إنّما هوَ أبعد متكلّم عن التصنّع، وأقرب ما يكون من الصراحة والصدق في القول والفعل.

Comparative Study of Performance of Male and Female Teachers of Elementary Level in Punjab

Education is a process of transferring knowledge, culture and tradition of one generation to the next. The teacher is the main agent who performs his part in the process of education. A UNESCO sponsored study of four countries (Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Pakistan) conducted in 2000, shows that the female teachers perform better than male teachers in earlier grades. The purpose of this study was to draw a comparison between male and female teachers working at elementary level in government boys schools in the province of Punjab. The objectives of the study were: (i) to compare the performance of male and female teachers working in boys schools at elementary level in rural areas; (ii) to compare the performance of male and female teachers working in boys schools at elementary level in urban areas; (iii) to compare the performance of male teachers working in boys schools in rural areas with those of working in urban areas; (iv) to compare the performance of female teachers working in boys schools in rural areas with those of working in urban areas; and (v) to compare the performance of male and female teachers working in boys schools at elementary level. In this study, pre-test and post-test were used. Sixty-eight (68) students of grade 4 and sixteen (16) teachers were the sample of study. From each school thirty four (34) students and eight (8) teachers were selected as sample of study. Each group comprised of seventeen (17) students. The data collected through pre-test and post-test were analyzed by applying t-test and one way ANOVA. Significance of difference between both the comparison groups in pre-test and post-test was analyzed by using t-test at 0.05 level. The major findings of the study were; The performance of urban male teachers was better than the rural teachers in the subjects of Urdu, Maths, Science and English while the performance of urban female teachers was xv 16 better than rural female teachers in all these subjects. However, female teachers performed better than male teachers in the subjects of Urdu, Science and English except Maths while female teachers working in urban areas gave better results than male teachers working in urban area schools in the subject of Urdu, Science and English except Maths. It is recommended that Female teachers may be appointed at primary level in boys schools. Male teachers may be appointed for the teaching of mathematics at elementary level. Residence and transport facilities may be provided to the teachers working in rural areas. Every teacher may be bound to serve in rural area at least for five years during his/her job. Teaching facilities and infrastructure of elementary level may be improved. Female teachers may be provided additional training for teaching of mathematics. A handsome amount may be given in the shape of unattractive/hard area allowance to the teachers working in rural areas.
