The main purpose of the study was to evaluate the overall performance of the students of higher secondary schools and colleges at intermediate level in Punjab. Higher secondary school level is the intermediate stage, where students have to carry out their future planning. It is necessary to improve the academic performance of students at higher secondary level of education, particularly in the field of Mathematics because the mathematics curriculum identifies the different attributes of learning which is to be assessed through the performance of students. Therefore the study was conducted to evaluate the performance of the mathematics students of HSSs and colleges at intermediate level. The major objectives of the study were to analyze overall performance of the students at intermediate level in higher secondary schools and colleges in a comparative perspective; to investigate factors affecting teaching-learning environment faced by the students and teachers in Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges of Punjab; to evaluate performance of male and female students of Mathematics in Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges and to explore performance of rural and urban area students of Mathematics. The population of the study comprised 946 principals, 1336 maths teachers and 73455 maths students of higher secondary schools and colleges of Punjab province. Province of Punjab is densely populated and consists of 37 districts. These districts are administratively divided into nine divisions. Each division has a BISE (Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education). Keeping in view the short span of time and resources constraints, the study was delimited to two Boards, i-e Rawalpindi and Sargodha. For evaluation of the performance of the students in comparative perspective, the research was also delimited the results of the students of the Mathematics part-1 at intermediate level in higher secondary schools and colleges. The researcher used three questionnaires (First for the principals, second for the mathematics teachers and third for the students of mathematics part-2) as research instruments. The researcher personally visited the selected institutions and the questionnaires were administered to 440 mathematics students of part-2 at intermediate level, 60 mathematics teachers and 48 principals of Government higher secondary schools and Government colleges. The respondents were requested to give their responses to each item on three-point Likert Rating Scale. The researcher also visited BISE Rawalpindi and BISE Sargodha for obtaining HSSC-I Annual Examination 2012 results of the students included in the sample. The data were analyzed by using SPSS version-21 and statistical techniques (ttest, chi-square-test “Monto Carlo Simulation Method”). Themain conclusions of the study were: 1. Overall performance of the students of HSSs’ and colleges was indifferent. However, performance of higher secondary schools students of Rawalpindi Board was better than those of Sargodha Board. In colleges, the performance of the students of Sargodha Board was better than those of Rawalpindi Board. 2. The performance of students of Rural and Urban institutions was similar both higher secondary schools as well as for colleges. 3. The performance of boys and girls was significantly different. The performance of girls was better than performance of boys. 4. The math’s teachers were aware of the objectives of teaching Mathematics at higher secondary level who completed syllabus with in time. In both setups, majority of the teachers used demonstration, inductive and activity based methods. Mostly teachers of HSS were given individual attention and used appropriate teaching aids effectively to the students as compare to colleges. 5. Mostly teachers of HSS’s gave individual attention to students who used appropriate teaching aids effectively to the students as compared to colleges.

استفہام بمعنی امر

بسااوقات استفہام امر کے معنوں میں استعمال ہوتا ہے ۔ ذیل کی آیت:

"إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَنْ يُوقِعَ بَيْنَكُمُ الْعَدَاوَةَ وَالْبَغْضَاءَ فِي الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ وَيَصُدَّكُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَعَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُنْتَهُونَ"۔ [[1]]

"شیطان تو یہی چاہتا ہے کہ شراب اور جوئے کے ذریعے تمہارے درمیان دشمنی اور بغض کے بیج ڈال دے اور تمہیں اللہ کی یاد اور نماز سے روک دے ، اب بتاؤ کہ کیا تم ان چیزوں سے باز آ جاؤ گے"۔

اس آیت میں ’’فھل انتم منتھون ‘‘ در اصل ’’انتھوا عنھا‘‘ کے معنی میں مستعمل ہے ۔

"فَإِلَّمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا لَكُمْ فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا أُنْزِلَ بِعِلْمِ اللَّهِ وَأَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ"۔[[2]]

"اس کے بعد اگر یہ تمہاری بات قبول نہ کریں تو (اے لوگو) یقین کر لو کہ یہ وحی صرف اللہ کےحکم سے اتری ہےاور یہ کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی عبادت کے لائق نہیں، تو کیا اب تم فرما بردار بنو گے"۔

جناب فلاحی کی رائے میں آیت مذکور میں ’’فھل انتم مسلمون‘‘ استفہام کے معنی میں نہیں بلکہ امر کے مفہوم میں استعمال ہوا ہے یعنی ’’اسلموا لھذا لاکتاب و آمنو ‘‘ ۔[[3]]

" قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَهْلَكَنِيَ اللَّهُ وَمَنْ مَعِيَ أَوْ رَحِمَنَا”[[4]]

"اے پیغمبر ان سے کہو کہ ذرا یہ بتلاؤ کہ چاہے اللہ مجھے اور میرے ساتھیوں کو ہلاک کر دے یا ہم پر رحم فرما دے"۔

An Analytical Study of the Outcomes and Impacts of Religious Education of Pakistan, the Challenges and Opportunities

This study focuses on the impact of Religious Education in Pakistan at individual and collective levels. The research discusses the educational basis for the study of religion and analyzes the contribution of religious education towards the intellectual growth of individuals. The study raises few questions regarding religious education in Pakistan such as; why has our education system been divided into religious and secular education system. Whether the existing religious education is able to create a linkage between religion and society or not, if not what are the areas which need to be focused. What are the possibilities of sidelining the religious education and what could be its effects. The research focuses on the aims and objectives or religious education in Pakistan by analyzing the nature of curriculums of religious education at various levels. This study highlights the deficiency of the inclusion of the teachings of other religions in our religious education. The research consists of a current survey of the said topic, some findings and conclusions on the issue and few recommendations as well.

Bayesian Approach of Testing Many Hypotheses Concerning Parameters of Multivariate Normal Distribution

Multiple hypothesis testing is an important topic in statistics. Therefore, the problem addressed in this thesis is an important one. The Bayesian methods of hy- potheses testing are widely used for solving different problems, and this technique is rather well developed. A lot of scientific works are dedicated to the development of this method. Many interesting and important results have been obtained in this field by different authors. Despite of this fact there still remain a lot of unsolved prob- lems. For filling these gaps, in this thesis we consider different problems of testing many hypotheses by the Bayesian approach. In particular, in the Bayesian problem of many hypotheses testing concerning all the parameters of multidimensional normal distribution at correlation of observation results we have obtained the following new results: the problem of computation of the risk function were considered; the formulae for calculation of multidimensional probability integrals by series using the reduction of dimensionality to one without information loss were derived; the formulae for cal- culation of product moments for normalized normally distributed random values were derived; the problems of existence and continuity of the probability distribution law of linear combination of exponents of quadratic forms of the normally distributed random vector, and, also, the problem of finding the closed form of this law were considered; the existence of this law and the opportunity of its unambiguous deter- mination by calculated moments of the appropriate random variable were proved; the approximation of optimal regions of acceptance of hypotheses, which significantly simplify the algorithms of realization of general solutions of the task, is offered; the viiiix properties and interrelations of the developed methods and algorithms were investi- gated; the problem of choosing the loss function in the Bayesian problem of many hypotheses testing was considered; the results of sensitivity analysis of the consid- ered Bayesian problem are given; the calculation results for concrete examples, which show the validity of the obtained results are given. Especially must be emphasized that new sequential method of testing many hypotheses based on special properties of regions of acceptance of hypotheses in the conditional Bayesian task of testing many hypotheses is offered. The results of research of the properties of this method are given. They show the consistency, simplicity and optimality of the obtained results in the sense of the chosen criterion, which consists in the upper restriction of the probability of the error of one kind and the minimization of the probability of the error of the second kind. The examples of testing of hypotheses for the case of the sequential independent sample from the multidimensional normal law of probability distribution with correlated components are cited. They show the high quality of the offered methods.
