Questions were formulated in the form of Likert scale. Third part contained open-ended questions in order to find the opinion of the students. Questionnaire consisted of several sections according to various aspects of the computer based instructional material model. The other two questionnaires were formulated for academicians and tutors in order to verify the information collected from student questionnaire. The findings revealed that there was a need to use more computers based instructional material in education. It was found that computer technology plays a pivotal role in teacher training programmes in the distance learning system. The respondents were of the view that in the future age of technology, it is important to prepare teachers who could use computer based instructional material in their classes. It was also considered effective to use email and Internet. To realize importance of computer based instructional materials most of the respondents agreed to have computers in all the classrooms for all the students and stressed to modify curriculum and textbooks according to the use of computer based instructional material. Resource person and instructors were considered to have the power to plan and set time to use computer based instruction material. Experts like academicians, resource persons and tutors need to verify the information gathered from student questionnaires.

Analisis Budaya dalam Pembelian Perabotan Rumah Tangga secara Kredit Pada Keluarga Mampu di Desa Buatan II menurut Perspektif Ekonomi Syariah

This research is motivated by the large number of well-off families who still buy household furniture on credit in Artificial Village II. This makes researchers interested in researching further the reasons why families are able to still buy goods on credit. The problem studied is how cultural factors influence the purchase of household furniture on credit among well-off families and what is the opinion of Sharia Economics regarding rich families who use credit to buy furniture for their homes. Field research uses qualitative field methods The data required for this situation is the buyer (well-off family) and seller who completed the credit trade exchange in Artificial Village II. Observations, interviews and documentation were used to obtain data. Analysis of qualitative descriptive data from this research reveals that cultural factors are the main reason why people in Artificial Village II can buy household furniture on credit. Many people in Artificial Village II do not understand what cultural factors exist in society, so without realizing it, culture is the main cause of people buying goods on credit. Islam does not forbid this strategy of buying and selling on credit because it can make it easier for people to get the goods they need because they don't need to spend money for it. That the support and conditions framed by Islam should be adhered to in carrying out trade exchanges to ensure harmony between associations and arrangements without any pressure.

Role of Students and teachers Beliefs in English Language Learning at Federal Colleges of Pakistan

Role of Students and teachers Beliefs in English Language Learning at Federal Colleges of Pakistan Beliefs play a vital role in shaping actions. They not only drive the actions but also help in identifying strategies to practice beliefs. English Language Learning beliefs and strategy use is a relatively unexplored area in Pakistani context. The aim of this study is to investigate Pakistani college students’ and teachers’ beliefs about English language learning, to explore English language learning strategies used by the students and preferred by the teachers and to find out relationship between beliefs and strategy use. 419 college students and 40 teachers participated in the study. A wide range of data collection tools were used, including four Likert-scale questionnaires, comprising different versions for teachers and students respectively, The Individual Background Questionnaire (IBQ), the Beliefs About Language Learning Inventory (BALLI), the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) and Teachers Preferred Strategy Questionnaire (TPSQ). Apart from these questionnaires, other information gathering tools including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Open-ended Questions, Interviews and Classroom Observations were also used for collecting qualitative data with a view to imparting more reliability and objectivity to the data used for the study. In this regard, five focus group discussion sessions and 12 classroom observations were conducted. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20 for quantitative date, while the software Nvivo 9 was used for qualitative data analysis. The results largely suggest convergence in teachers’ and students’ beliefs, yet they differ from each other in many respects. The data revealed that metacognitive strategies are most frequently used by Pakistani students, while social strategies are amongst those least preferred. Gender as well as exposure to English is among significant factors in determining the use of these strategies. The study also showed that teachers preferred certain strategies over the others. Most importantly, the study testified that there existed a significant association between beliefs and strategy use. The study has important implications for language teaching, teacher training, syllabus reformation and the examination system. The study recommends that curriculum, teacher training programs and examination system prevalent in colleges of Pakistan be revised keeping in view teachers’ and students’ beliefs towards learning of English in order to improve English language teaching/learning situation in the country.
