This experimental study was conducted to look into the effect of the Eclectic Approach of teaching on English grammar at Elementary Level and students’ attitude towards the Approach. The objectives of the study were: (i) To explore the effect of the Eclectic Approach of teaching on English grammar; (ii) To delve into the effect of the Eclectic Approach of teaching on vocabulary; (iii) To investigate the effect of the Eclectic Approach of teaching on pronunciation; (iv) To look into the effect of the Eclectic Approach of teaching on communication skills − listening, speaking, reading and writing; (v) To examine the effect of the Eclectic Approach of teaching on students’ retention; and (vi) To measure the attitude of the students towards the Eclectic Approach. Fifty six (56) male students studying English in 8th class at Government High School, Mian Banda, Timergara, Dir Lower, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were taken as a sample of the study. The study was conducted through Pre-test Post-test Equivalent Group Design. Two groups that is experimental group and control group were formed on the basis of the results of the pre-test by using pair random sampling technique. Each group consisted of twenty eight (28) students. The randomly selected control group was provided routine treatment, while the experimental group was taught through the Eclectic Approach. The experiment lasted for a period of six weeks. Data were collected through teacher-made pre-test, post-test, retention test and attitude scale. The collected data were analyzed through t-test. The results and findings of the data showed that the experimental group showed better results than the control group and the attitude of the experimental group towards the Eclectic Approach was positive. Keeping in view the encouraging results of this study, it is recommended that the Eclectic Approach of teaching should be implemented at all levels of education.

نجی مجلسوں میں اکثر یہ گفتگو رہتی ہے کہ ہندوستان میں انیسویں صدی میں جتنی عظیم اور قدر آور شخصیتیں پیدا ہوئیں، اتنی بیسویں صدی میں نہ ہوسکیں، مگر اس صدی میں جو چند عظیم المرتبت شخصیتیں پیدا ہوئیں، ان میں شیخ عبداﷲ بھی تھے، ان کی زندگی شروع سے فعال، متحرک اور ہنگامہ پرور رہی، اپنی جوانی میں مہاراجہ کشمیر کی استبدادیت سے ٹکرلی اور جیل گئے، پاکستان کی تحریک اور اس کے قیام کے بعد محمد علی جناح سے بھی تصادم مول لیا، ۱۹۴۷؁ء کے بعد کشمیر کا الحاق ہندوستان سے کرکے اپنے سیکولرزم کا ثبوت دیا، اور پاکستان سے جنگ بھی کی، لیکن پھر کشمیر کی مخصوص حیثیت کی خاطر، اپنے دوست پنڈت جواہر لال نہرو سے بھی ان کی وزارت عظمٰی کے زمانہ میں سیاسی اور دستوری نبرد آزمائی کی جس کے نتیجہ میں اپنی جوانی کے بہترین ایام قید اور نظربندی کی صورتوں میں گزارے، حکومت ہند سے ان کی معرکہ آرائی الف لیلیٰ کی داستان سے کم نہیں، جھپٹے، پلٹے، پلٹ کر جھپٹے، چھپٹ کر پلٹے، کشمیر کے عوام کے استصواب رائے، حق خود اختیاری اور سرزمین کشمیر کی آزادی کے نعرے بلند کرتے رہے، مگر جب یہ فضا میں صرف گونج کررہ گئے، تو پھر حکومت سے مصالحت کرلی، کشمیر کے وزیراعظم تو نہیں، لیکن وزیراعلیٰ بن گئے، اور اسی حیثیت سے ان کی وفات بھی ہوئی، اور جنازہ بھی اٹھا، جس کے بے پناہ ہجوم سے کشمیر میں ان کی محبوبیت کا اندازہ ہوا۔

Egyptian society and Indian society faced many social issues, especially during the British colonial rule in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The British occupation was an era of decline for the Muslims of the sub-continent. Public minds were not able to recognize this change and did not fully understand the requirements of the time. Writers and poets of that time discussed and dealt with social isues and tried to raise the almost dead community back to life. They wanted their people to be rationalized and to understand the problems of society. Two of those leading writers were Taha Hussein and Deputy Nazir Ahmed.             This article will examine Taha Hussein’s role and contribution in raising of Egyptian society and enlightening the Arab minds and also throw light on the efforts of Deputy Nazir Ahmed, a leading social novelist in the sub-continent. The most important issues that were treated through their novels and their writings were the problems and issues of woman and the issue of moral decline in society.

The essential norm of maximal and potential operators defined on homogeneous groups is estimated in terms of weights. The same problem is discussed for par- tial sums of Fourier series, Poisson integrals and Sobolev embeddings. In some cases we conclude that there is no a weight pair (v, w) for which the given operator is compact from L pw to L qv . It is proved that the measure of non-compactness of a bounded linear operator from a Banach space into a weighted Lebesgue space with variable parameter is equal to the distance between this operator and the class of finite rank operators. The p(x) essential norm of the Hilbert transform acting from L w p(x) to L v is estimated from below. As a corollary we have that there is no a weight pair (v, w) and a function p from the class of log-H ̈older continuity such that the Hilbert transform is compact p(x) from L w p(x) to L v . Necessary and sufficient conditions on a weight pair (v, w) governing the bound- edness of generalized fractional maximal functions and potentials on the half-space q(x) from L pw (R n ) to L v (R n+1 + ) are derived. As a corollary, we have criteria for the trace inequality for these operators in variable exponent Lebesgue spaces.
