The present study complies with different principles of environment friendly synthesis utilizing efficient instrumental techniques i.e.; microwaves and replacement of hazardous solvents with eco-friendly ones. The overall progress of chemical reactions achieved through application of environmental chemistry, was compared with the traditional methods. In the first part of this research work, synthesis of substituted ethyl 2-(4-nitrobenzylidene) hydrazinyl acetate was carried out for which, substituted benzoic acids were esterified to corresponding ethyl esters under the influence of microwaves followed by its hydrazinolysis. Substituted benzohydrazides thus obtained, were then reacted in a microwave oven with different benzaldehydes to get a series of substituted 4-nitrophenyl methylidene benzohydrazides. They were then changed into targeted products after reaction of substituted 4-nitrophenyl methylidene benzohydrazides with ethyl chloroacetate in the presence of dry acetone in anhydrous conditions by using microwaves. In the second series, naphthyl acetic acid was converted to ethyl naphthalen-1ylacetate followed by its hydrazinolysis. The compound 2-(naphthalen-1-yl) acetohydrazide thus, formed was reacted with different benzaldehydes under conventional and green technologies to get a series of substituted methylidene-2(naphthalen-1-yl) acetohydrazide. The targeted compounds were synthesized after their reaction of substituted methylidene-2-(naphthalen-1-yl) acetohydrazides with ethyl chloroacetate under anhydrous conditions. In the third series, substituted ethyl methylidene-1-[(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) acetyl] hydrazinyl acetate were synthesized by using 2,4-dichloro phenoxyacetic acid. After esterification of 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid ethyl (2,4-dichlorophenoxy) acetate was synthesized which underwent hydrazinolysis. The compound 2-(2,4dichlorophenoxy) acetohydrazide thus formed, was reacted with aromatic aldehydes and ketones to give methylidene-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) acetohydrazide derivatives. Methylidene-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) acetohydrazide on esterification under anhydrous conditions yielded ethyl methylidene-1-[(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) acetyl] hydrazinyl acetate. Similarly, in the fourth series derivatives of ethyl -1-[(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy), acetyl]-2- hydrazinyl} acetate was synthesized after four steps of synthesis. Methyl xx chloro -phenoxyacetic acid was esterified in the first step to synthesize ethyl (4chloro-2-methylphenoxy) acetate which underwent hydrazinolysis to give 2-(4chloro-2-methylphenoxy) acetohydrazide. The compound 2-(4-chloro-2methylphenoxy) methylidene acetohydrazide was prepared after reaction of aromatic aldehydes and ketones with 2-(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy) acetohydrazide. These Schiff bases were changed into targeted compounds after reaction with ethyl chloro acetate under anhydrous conditions. Comparison of both the conventional and microwave assisted reactions indicates a significant reduction in reaction times and improvement in reaction yields. Besides chemical characterization, some of the synthesized compounds (series-1 and 2) were evaluated for their phytohormonal ability on tissue culture raised Bougainvillea glabra explants and hydroponically grown sunflower seedlings. Series-2 compounds were also evaluated for anti-fungal activity. Some of them were found to possess the potential as plant growth promoter. Series-3 and 4 compounds were evaluated for cytotoxicity assay protocol against 3T3 cell line and anti-cancer activity on Hela cell line. Few of them were found to possess potential as lead compounds for drug discovery.

Islamic Charity and Social Development in Pakistan

“Whoever extinguishes the fire of the greed of “Nafs (self)” gets prosperous” is the leitmotif of Quran. Islam in its best is the religion of the oppressed, even itsworships rather than mere rituals are conduit of socioeconomic and political justice a panacea to social development. Prayers of community stay hypocritical ifpoverty, destitution and oppression prevail in community. Quran crushes the spirit of acquisitiveness and strikes moral order based on socio-economic andpolitical justice. For social equilibrium charity, Zakat and Sadaqat are recurrent theme of Quran. To the Dreamer and the Architect, Pakistan was poised tobecome an Islamic welfare state. So, this paper intends to portray what is needed to eliminate social inequalities in the social fabric of the state. What the people and the state ought to do in the light of Islamic ideals? To Shah Wali Allah, Zakat is a sure enough recipe to run a state and strike social equilibrium if employed to the spirit of Quran.

Synthesis and Characterization of Nanoparticles for the Control of Aflatoxins and Pathogenic Moulds

This study provides a novel approach to encounter the well-established global issues of drug-resistant pathogens bacterial/fungal strains and their linked metabolites such as aflatoxins (AFs). Recent advancements have been proposed for incorporation nanoparticles (NPs) in this regards. This study provides a promising solution to control pathogenic moulds and AFs by the utilization of nanotechnology approach and also highlighted the AFs level in various agricultural commodities. A variety of agricultural commodities such as wheat, composite spices and dry fruits/edible nuts were assessed for the AFs determination by HPLC. The iron (Fe), copper (Cu) and silver (Ag) NPs have been synthesized from bio-diversified plants, herbs and spices extracts and chemical reduction method in parallel. These great varieties of NPs are used to control AFs and pathogenic moulds. AFs were detected in 26−77% of samples; the average concentration was found 0.53−4.63 µg/kg with contamination ranged of 0.02−30.11 µg/kg. The spherical shape NPs were successfully synthesized with average particle size ranges from 10−120 nm. Ag-NPs showed a pronounced effect, thereby reducing the growth of methicillin- and vancomycin-resistance Staphylococcus aureus at MIC of 8−16, 32−64 and 128−256 µg/mL for Ag-, Cu- and Fe-NPs, respectively. The growth of aflatoxigenic moulds (Aspergillus) and AFs production was significantly inhibited in presence of 100 µg/mL Ag-NPs, in contrast to Fe- and Cu-NPs. The batch adsorption test for the efficacy of NPs to adsorb aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) indicates that ≥ 95% AFB1 adsorption using 5 mg/mL NPs. Adsorption data was well fitted in Langmuir isotherm model with different adsorption capacities. Kinetics and thermodynamic studies indicates spontaneous adsorption process that is endothermic in nature and follows the pseudo-second order rate equation. The efficiencies of green synthesized NPs were found in the order of: green tea > black tea > clove > neem > datura > jamun > curry leaves > rose > black cumin > mangroves > gum tree > dates. The synthesis of metal NPs using green nanotechnology seems to be the best candidate because it is simple, eco-friendly, costeffective, non-toxic, energy-efficient and considered as alternative to the conventional methods. This study explores the importance of green chemistry, thereby demonstrating for the first time, the successful utilization of green nano synthesis approach for the control of AFs and pathogenic moulds. The NPs could be utilized as alternative antimicrobial agents in medical, agricultural and veterinary fields.
