Teacher plays pivotal role in the field of education. Quality of education depends on the quality of teachers. It is rightly stated that no system of education is better than its teachers. To play this role teacher must be proficient, skillful and well versed in the art of teaching. Therefore, it is imperative and obligatory that teacher should be properly trained to perform this awesome and onerous responsibility. Teacher can be made efficient and effective through imparting effective training. Different types of programmes are offered in Pakistan to impart training to prospective teachers. It is highly essential that effectiveness of these programmes may be ascertained to retain or revise the programmes, therefore, this study has been undertaken. To explore the topic of the study following major objectives were formulated. To analyze the objectives, curriculum, methodology, evaluation process, teaching practice and facilities in the institutions. ii) To compare the quality of training provided in the institutions. iii) to identify the problems and issues related to quality of teacher training in training institutions. iv) to compare the opinion of teacher educators on the curriculum of B.Ed and B S education. Population of this study consisted of the heads of the institutions, teacher educators and student teachers of teacher training institutions in public sector in Pakistan. The sample of the study was drawn 26 Govt colleges of education, institute of education and research and departments of education in the universities. Seven questionnaires were used as instrument for the collection of data. Seven questionnaires were developed for data collection from the sample. Questionnaires were pilot tested before their administration to the sample of the study and their reliability was calculated. Data were xxi collected, tabulated and interpreted by applying the percentage, means, t test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) to draw conclusions. In the light of analysis, it was found that majority of head of the institutions and teacher educators were satisfied with most of the dimensions of B.Ed training programme. Majority of student teachers expressed their dissatisfaction over the training programmes, because teacher educators use obsolete training techniques. B S education programme was declared to be more popular and effective than B.EdProgramme. On the basis of conclusions it was recommended that B.Edprogramme should be revised, modified to make it need oriented. Teacher plays pivotal role in the field of education.

Faculty Perspective on the Challenges Faced During Implementation of Integrated Curriculum

Background: Curriculum is a dynamic thing that has evolved over the years to ensure the competency of health care professionals. Due to guidelines issued by international accrediting agencies, University College of Medicine & Dentistry implemented an integrated modular curriculum in 2015 that is coordinated and coherent.  Objectives: The objective of this study was to explore the difficulties that the faculty faced while implementing an integrated curriculum for the undergraduate dental program (BDS) at the University College of Dentistry, The University of Lahore.   Methods: This descriptive exploratory study was conducted from September 2020 till January 2021 at University College of Dentistry, The University of Lahore. Thirty-five faculty members were interviewed. The interviews were analyzed thematically after being transcribed. Results: Six themes emerged from the analysis of interviews. These themes were: working environment, distribution of workload, communication, faculty development and retention, evaluation and leadership. Conclusions: Integrated curriculum may be the need of the hour; however, its implementation comes with a set of challenges, which include a non-conducive working environment, uneven distribution of workload, absence of a sound faculty development and retention program, or absence of adequate resources. These factors may hinder the implementation of the integrated curriculum.

Quality Assurance of Medium Scale Projects Using Dxprum Methodology

Agile methods are being used as a new way of developing software. They are basically used to fasten software development cycle by keeping an eye on its quality. Using Agile methods in any project along with quality assurance perspective is a crucial task. Many software developing organizations are using Agile methods now a days in their projects to reduce cost involved in a project. Agile methods are best suited for small projects as they require less resources and able to generate output in less time. However, days many organizations are also using Agile methods for medium and large scale projects. These projects also use large teams. Moreover, there may be teams having members taking part in these projects at geographically distributed locations. Assuring quality of these projects using Agile method is a challenging task as in Agile, testing is also carried out in each iteration along with software development. So the system has to be up and running every time for testing purpose. It means testing is only easy when organizations are working on small projects. As the size of the projects increases, the quality assurance of these projects also becomes a difficult task. The projects become complex as they require more resources and time, so there is always a burden on quality assurance team to deliver. The project may go for days and weeks without a functional build and thus testing cannot be done on regular basis. Secondly as the size of the project gets larger by adding more and more features in it, the number of tests is also increased to assure that the system is still performing what it is supposed to perform. The assurance of the quality of such projects is always a difficult task for any quality assurance team. Many Agile methods are being used by software developing organizations to build high quality software which involve less cost and time. Each Agile method has its own strengths and weaknesses. This research work is based on purposing a new hybrid Agile methodology DXPRUM. The DXPRUM is a combination of three of the agile models named as Dynamic System Development Method, Extreme Programming and Scrum (D comes from DSDM, XP from Extreme Programing, RUM from Scrum). The objective of the research is to purpose a new Agile methodology DXPRUM which combines the strengths of all the three Agile methods by removing their weaknesses. The main strength of DXPRUM will be the in time delivery of the project to customer with reduced cost.and the weaknesses to overcome will be to reduce resource utilization without affecting the output and to remove the overlapped resources. This research will consider a medium scale project with the implementation of a new Agile methodology DXPRUM under the perspective of quality assurance. The results of this research will also be compared with results of all three methods individually to validate the research. The metrics used for the evaluation will be total time in weeks, total number of modules build, total predicted hours, total line of code (LOC) and pre and post release defects etc.
