The study was conducted to evaluate the professional development of novice teachers in the context of Transformative Learning in Punjab. The study focused on investigating professional development of novice teachers in the areas of teaching methodology, classroom practices and lesson planning skills in the context of Transformative Learning. Another objective of the study was to evaluate the professional development modules for novice teachers according to the views of module developers and to compare the professional development of novice teachers with respect to their designation, academic and professional qualifications. Mixed method approach and sequential exploratory research design was used for this study. In qualitative phase of the study, interviews of master trainers and module developers of professional development program were conducted to elicit their views about professional development. In the quantitative phase, data was collected from novice teachers through structured questionnaire to gain information about transformation, if any, in the areas of lesson planning, teaching methodology and classroom practices. Observations were made to find out transformations among novice teachers as manifested in classrooms. The targeted population of this study comprised of 78,092 Novice Educators, 176 master trainers and 20 module developer of the professional development program. Through multi stage sampling technique, 1,036 trained teachers from eight selected districts of Punjab province, 10 module developers and 35 master trainers were selected as sample. Research instruments comprised two structured interview schedules for master trainers and module developers and a questionnaire and an observation check list for novice teachers. The responses of master trainers and module developers were analyzed qualitatively in light of the objectives. Data obtained through checklist and questionnaire was analyzed through one way ANOVA and independent sample t-test. It was found that a positive change occurred in lesson planning skills, teaching methodology and classroom practices of novice teachers. Module developers provided activities for Transformative Learning. It was concluded that there was no significant difference in the mean scores of novice teachers regarding professional development in the areas of lesson planning skills with respect to their designation and professional qualification. It was also concluded that there was no significant difference in the mean scores of novice teachers regarding professional development in the area of teaching methodology with respect to their designation and academic qualification. Novice Elementary School Educators and bachelor degree holder teachers were performing better in the area of classroom practices. Bachelor degree holder novice teacher were also performing better than master degree holders in the area of lesson planning .The study recommends launching lesson planning improving program for existing teachers. It is recommended for School Education Department to introduce latest classroom practices to other tiers of teachers. It is recommended for Directorate of Staff Development/Quaid-e-Azam Academy for Educational Development to work on transformation of traditional teaching methodologies to innovative teaching methodologies for all other teachers at all educational levels.

Music and the instruments used for it are forbidden clearly in Quran and Sunnah. The Prophet Muhammad SAW warned us about its punishment in hereafter. Along with it due to its attraction to human’s interests, Music is often added to various programs. Besides listening it in songs, it is used as background in various audios and videos. The aim of this background music is to make the program more effective and attractive to the audience. As nowadays TV and Radio are also being used as means of preaching Islam, especially in the current age of social media many web and social media channels have been emerged to propagate Islam. One of the main problems been faced by these channels is forbidden of music in Islam, due to which the public does not take enough interest in them as compared to other entertainment channels. In this paper after discussing shariah status of Music I have tried to come up with various alternate ways to make the religious and Islamic Programs more attractive and effective to the people.

Use of Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Mrs to Improve Magnetic Resonance Imaging Mri in the Diagnosis of Intracranial Pathology, Done at Aga Khan University

Introduction: Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS)is a potentially useful adjunct to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in thecharacterization of focal brain lesions. This study was aimed at showing that by the additional use of MRS (MRI, MRS), the characterization of a focal brain lesion into neoplastic, or non- neoplastic (infective, or degenerative) can be improved, as compared to the use of MRI alone. Study question: Does the additional use of MRS improve MRI differentiation of neoplastic from non- neoplastic (infective or degenerative) focal brain lesions? Methods: The design was prospective, analytical and comparative. 80 consecutive patients were enrolled. Conventional MRI of the brain was performed then a single voxel proton MRS spectrum was applied to a focal brain lesion. A similar MRS spectrum was subsequently acquired from the contra-lateral normal area of the brain, for comparison. The MRI examination, followed by the MRI, MRS examination was then interpreted by two consultant radiologists and a resident radiologist in consensus. Kappa measurement of agreement was used to determine the agreement between the MRI and MRI, MRS with the final diagnosis. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive values and accuracy of the two tests were calculated. The difference between the number of indeterminate lesions in the two tests was noted. Logistic regression demonstrated the role of confounding factors in the diagnostic use of MRS. Results: Of the eighty patients initially recruited, seventy four (92.5%) were analyzed, and six were lost to follow- up. According to the final diagnosis, 33% of the lesions were infections, 29% neoplastic, 37% degenerative and, 1% were indeterminate. On the basis of the kappa analysis, MRI, MRS had an increase in agreement of 7.4% compared to MRI and the confidence levels of the two tests did not overlap. The sensitivity of MRI, MRS was 4.82 times greater than that of MRI. MRI, MRS had a 1.7% increase in accuracy. The combined test reduced the indeterminate MRI lesions by 5.4%. Logistic regression showed that for lesions which were enhancing, MRS yield was more helpful if the voxel position included the enhancing part. Conclusion: The additional use of single voxel MRS improves the MRI characterization of neoplastic from non- neoplastic (infectious or degenerative) focal brain lesions. It is most useful as an additional protocol to conventional MRI in the characterization of neoplastic from non- neoplastic brain lesions.
