In order to produce good financial results and improve operational performance, a firm should effectively and efficiently manage its working capital. Working capital policies and practices vary from firm to firm which leads to variation in profitability. A difference in working capital practices is observed on the basis of size and location. Review of existing literature indicates that this variation in working capital management practices among various categories of firms such as small, medium, large, domestic and multinationals has not yet been adequately researched, particularly in developing countries like Pakistan. The study uses secondary data of 153 listed firms on Pakistan Stock Exchange for 10 years (2004-2013). These firms are categorized on the basis of size viz. small, medium and large; as well as location such as domestic and multinationals. R-square shows that highest explanatory power of the independent and control variables included in the model based on market to book ratio occur in multinational firms where dependent variable is explained to the extent of 41% whereas based on return on assets it is 26% in medium firms. Results show that working capital policy significantly affects firms’ performance. Multinomial logistic regression model was used to identify factors significantly affecting WC policy. Logistic regression results show that ROA and MC are the variables determining the WC policy of firms significant at 5% and 1% respectively. Overall, correct predictions for the study employing logistic regression model work out to be 71.9% showing fitness of the model used for analysis.

ENHANCING REHABILITATION PRACTICES THROUGH ROBUST REGULATION AND INTERDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION IN PAKISTAN

Rehabilitation forms an important tire in well operating health care systems. Within the areas as mentioned on the World Health Organisation factsheet about rehabilitation the therapeutic professions such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, prosthetists and orthotists and clinical psychologists play an important role. They do not only treat people’s conditions such as diseases, disorders, injuries or trauma, they furthermore promote good health and help to prevent diseases. This can significantly lead to better overall wellbeing of the population. To gain the best client outcome and support the health care system in an effective way, regulation is as important as interprofessional collaboration. Thus there is an intense need to highlight these two main aspects to ensure quality rehabilitation provided by therapeutic professionals.

Analytical Algorithms: Some Modifications and Applications

Initial and boundary value problems arise in different fields of mathematics and engineering. They are a result of mathematical modeling of various real-life phenomena. Some of these models are of higher nonlinearity. Thus, an exact solution of such a problem is very less likely. For those kinds of problems, we see different approximation methods, both analytical and numerical. The subject of this study is to work out some analytical algorithms that can be used to obtained solutions of nonlinear problems. A major issue with series solution algorithms is the convergence of these methods, especially for the cases of semi-infinite domain. We have tried to address this issue and have developed some modified algorithms that can work even where the traditional ones fail. Techniques like variational iteration method (VIM), variation of parameters method (VPM) and homotopy perturbation method (HPM) have been improved. This study is supposed to help the research community to remove some inbuilt deficiencies (such as divergent results, small parameter assumptions, need of perturbation, huge computational work and very limited convergence) of these traditional techniques. Efforts have been made to modify these analytical techniques. The modified schemes so obtained are free from these deficiencies. The modified schemes, like variation of parameters method with auxiliary parameter (VPMAP), optimal variation of parameters method with Adomian’s polynomials (OVPMAP), optimal variational iteration method (OVIM), optimal variational iteration method with Adomian’s polynomials (OVIMAP) and optimal homotopy perturbation method (OHPM) have been implemented on many problems arising in different fields of sciences such as, mathematical biology, fluid flow through different geometries, heat transfer equations related to chemical engineering etc. Convergent solutions are obtained for both bounded and unbounded domains by making an appropriate use of the developed modified versions. A brand new analytical algorithm, namely generalized iterative scheme (GIS), has also been introduced. Once can see its effectiveness for certain types of problems. Accuracy of the results is verified by comparing approximate solution with exact solutions, wherever available, or the residual error analysis.
