The principals in the public sector postgraduate peripheral colleges in the Punjab are the frontline management in these colleges. The present study is delimited to qualitative evaluation of the effectiveness of the Frontline Management (the principals) of the 35 selected public sector postgraduate peripheral colleges in the Punjab. The study is based on the perceptions of the vice-principals and the senior-most staff members from the teaching staff of the colleges under study about their principals. Mainly two questionnaires were used for eliciting responses from the respondents, one for independent variables-vision, integrity, political networking, courage, initiative, professional management training, high exposure and dynamism and the other for effectiveness, the dependent variable in the study. The third questionnaire was for rank- ordering of the independent variables, yet another for eliciting general information about the study on open-ended questions. The data so obtained was tabulated and analyzed using SPSS 15. Inferences were drawn from the results obtained from t-test for single samples for hypotheses testing and Linear Regression and Multiple Regressions Analyses. The t-test for paired samples (Associations) was also performed. On the basis of the results of analyses, 08 out of 25 hypotheses were accepted and 17 were rejected at 0.05% significance level, showing thereby, that the frontline management (the principals) of the peripheral postgraduate colleges under study lacked the 06 characteristics desirable for effectiveness namely, vision, courage, initiative, professional management training, high exposure, and dynamism except 02 those of integrity & political networking and these colleges also lacked effectiveness. The expected and perceived rank-ordering of the independent variables also differed. The variation in dependent variable was not significantly explained and affected by the independent variables except integrity, political networking & training. Very weak correlations were manifested between the independent variables and dependent variable except integrity, political networking & training which were significantly correlated with the dependent variable i.e., effectiveness at 0.05% significance level. Some interesting insights were perceived in the colleges under study. Politicized culture, tuition mafia, sponsor- protégé relationships, and no- work culture were some of them. The need for inculcating the desirable characteristics for effectiveness of frontline management is strongly emphasized.

آداب معاشرت، سورة حجرات کی گیارهویں اور بارهویں آیات کے تناظر میں

Dr. Shari'ati is a revolutionary intellectual personality of this century. He regarded Islamic values as the guarantee of salvation and success for humanity. He sought to mobilize and revive frozen Islamic ideas. That is, tried to bring the Islamic concept out of the boundaries of formal and congested boundaries into common and general thoughts. Dr. Shari'ati also presented a unique view that divine Imam transcends than worldly governments and this divine leadership cannot be determined by (Shuraiet). Rather, it can be diagnosed by an obvious reason (Nass). This doctrine of Dr. Shari'ati is contrary to the ideology of the Sunni and the Shi'ite’s concept of Imamat and Khilafat because the Sunni sect believes that Khilafat Or Imamt should be determine by the Shurait (Council) and Shiites by the will(Nass). According to Dr. Shairathi, Imamat cannot be determining through Shourait or Nass but it can be identified by the superior attributes of the Imam. He believes that Imamat is not an external factor which can gain by attainment or by choice; rather, it is an Inherit object.  In accepting this doctrine of Dr. Shari'ati, than the Imamat becomes a part of the system of naturalism (Takveeni). That makes the Imamat not a model process for humanity. So it would be a complicated issue to discuss and discover either the theory of Dr. Shari'ati is a applicable idea of Imamat or it is a just onlyu idialogy which cannot be practiced. The dissertation has been written to examine the reality of these two cases either Imamat is inherit case or it can be attainment case through Shouriat or Nass.

Effect of Achivement Goal Orintation on Students Performance in the Subject of English at Secondary Level in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

This study aimed to determine the effect of achievement goal orientation on student performance in the subject of English at secondary level. It was conducted in conventional classrooms in government High/Higher Secondary schools in district Peshawar. The sample consisted of 224 male and female teachers and 2240 boys and girl students. Items from the Patterns for Adaptive Learning Scale (PALS) developed and revised by Midgley, et.al, (2000) was used for the study. Students’ achievement was measured by using a multiple-choice test in the subject of English. Descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis were applied to identify significant predictors of achievement and to study the effects of students’ achievement goal orientation on their performance. The analysis revealed that teacher perceived school goal structure for students as more performance oriented than mastery oriented with more stress on high performance goals. Similarly teachers’ approached to instruction with multiple goals. They were more performance oriented than mastery oriented with slightly high performance approach to instruction than high mastery approach. It was found that teachers’ performance approach to instruction was significantly but negatively correlated to students’ mastery as well as performanceapproach goal orientation. Students had a multiple goal orientation. Majority of students had mastery goal orientation, followed by performance-avoid and performance-approach goal orientation. They were slightly more mastery oriented in general but in high-low category, they had more high performance-avoidance goal orientation, followed by high performance-approach goal and then by high mastery goal orientation. It was concluded that boys and girls differed in their achievement goal orientation. Students perceived their teachers as having multiple goals with focus on mastery and performance goals. They also perceived their teachers as having slightly high performance-avoidance goals than high performance-approach or high mastery goals. Students’ perception of teachers’ goals was significantly correlated to students’ goal orientation. Students viewed their classrooms as slightly more performance-approach oriented than mastery oriented. Majority of rural girls perceived their classroom to have high mastery goal structure, while majority of urban girls perceived them to have high performance-approach goal structure. Greater number of boys perceived their classrooms as having high performance-avoid goal structure than girls. Majority of urban boys perceived their classrooms as having high performance-avoid goal structure. Students’ perception of classroom goal structure was significantly correlated with students’ goal orientation, Students perceived their parents as asserting multiple goals with slightly more performance orientation than mastery orientation. However the difference was minimal. Students’ perception of parent goal was significantly correlated with students’ goal orientation. Students having high mastery goal orientation performed higher on performance test than students having low mastery goal orientation. Similarly students having high performance-approach goal orientation scored higher than those having low performance-approach goals. Furthermore, students having high performanceavoid goal orientation had slightly higher performance test score than students having low performance-avoid goal orientation. The study concluded that students’ performance was significantly correlated with students’ goal orientation and students’ mastery goal orientation was a strong predictor of achievement. The study recommended that teachers may provide students with meaningful activities to increase motivation and should encourage them for learning. Teachers may give attention to students’ abilities and their perceptions of learning and performance to help them to develop proper orientations resulting in adaptive learning patterns.
