Purpose – Entrepreneurial intentions were lower in Pakistan as compared to other developing countries. Therefore this research was conducted to identify the stimulating factors of entrepreneurial intentions in Pakistan. This research has been completed in two studies. The first study analyzed the effect of socio-psychological factors on the male and female individuals’ entrepreneurial intentions via attitude toward entrepreneurship (ATE). Study 1 integrated the theory of planned behavior with gender schema theory to build the theoretical model. This study posits that social norms and entrepreneurial self-efficacy influence entrepreneurial intentions through the mediation of ATE. The investigator further stated the moderating role of gender while studying the impact of social norms and self-efficacy on the individuals’ ATE. The Study 2 aims to investigate the effect of intrinsic (intrinsic interest & community feeling aspirations) and extrinsic (perceived relative income and occupational prestige) rewards on male and female individuals’ entrepreneurial intentions through the mediation of ATE. To develop the theoretical model of the second study, the investigator integrates the goal contents theory with the stimulus-response theory and demonstrates that intrinsic interest, community feelings (intrinsic rewards), perceived relative income and occupational prestige (extrinsic rewards) positively influence the ATE that further helps in the development of individuals entrepreneurial intentions. The investigator further proposes the moderations of gender in the theoretical model of Study 2. Design/methodology/approach – Data came from students of three large universities in Lahore. These students were near to complete their degree in the field of business, engineering and information technology. For model testing, this research relied on structural equation modeling technique. Investigator applied PROCESS macro (Hayes, 2011) to test the moderating role of gender. Findings –The findings of the first study elucidated that self-efficacy and social norms have an indirect effect on EIs via ATE. The results also revealed that self-efficacy has a more significant effect on the attitude of male individuals toward entrepreneurship than on the attitude of females. The effect x of social norms on ATE of female individuals was stronger than male individuals. ATE positively influences the individuals’ EIs. The findings of study 2 suggest that intrinsic interest, community feelings (intrinsic rewards), perceived relative income and occupational prestige (extrinsic rewards) positively influence the ATE which in turn stimulate the EIs of students. In addition, gender was found a significant moderator on the relationships of intrinsic and extrinsic rewards with EIs in such a way, the effect of intrinsic interest (intrinsic reward) and perceived relative income (extrinsic reward) on ATE is higher for male individuals. Conversely, the entrepreneurial attitude of female individuals is developed by the community feelings (intrinsic reward) primarily. The findings of this research did not show any interaction of gender in the relationship between occupational prestige and ATE. Originality/value – This is the first research in its nature which has explored the effect of the socio-psychological, intrinsic and extrinsic factors on ATE of male and female individuals separately. In addition, this research also established that ATE is an important mediator that explains the indirect effect of these socio-psychological and motivational factors on EIs.

Conceptualizing Poverty in Capitalism and Islam

This study investigates poverty in Capitalism and Islam in terms of both; as an economic ism and as a living ideology. Capitalism as a living ideology, based on its’ philosophical foundations, eventually yields class conflict, deprivation, discrimination and accumulation of wealth in the hands of a few capitalists. Capitalism as an economic ism has become unpopular in the world not only because of socioeconomic injustices but also due to environmental degradation and losses in biodiversity. Theoretical analysis reveals that the built in mechanism (Demand-Supply) of capitalism is incapable to resolve the issue of poverty effectively. Poverty in Islamic context is a pure economic concept which does not affect the social class system and social values of humans. Furthermore, the measurement concept of poverty in Islam is different from the Capitalism. Poverty has been measured based on the minimum prescribed amount (Nisab) postulated by Islam. Various categories of the poor have been identified while benchmarking the minimum prescribed amount. Keeping into consideration the philosophical foundation of the Capitalism and Islamic Economic System (IES) the study reveals that IES has more potential to resolve the issue of poverty on more fair and equitable basis than the Capitalism.

Studies on Tumorous Growth With Reference to Digenetic Trematode in Some Edible Fishes of Karachi Coast

Fishes have socio- economics position in all over the world particularly marine fish give a bulk of food for mankind even as fishes of the lakes and rivers are also important source for the food supply. Fish provide a high protein, low-fat diet, which is low in saturated fats. Now a day, due to different disease such as diabetes, cardiovascular problems, hypertension, osteoporosis, osteomalacia, ocular diseases etc., and doctors recommend white meat as compared to red meat. Fish is also recommended for people suffering from malnutrition. Fish production is an important source of income and employment and plays a major role in Pakistan’s economy. Its organ such as liver is an important source of oil and has medicinal value and is used for the treatment of different diseases. Fish also provide fish fertilizer, fishmanure and several other products of commerce. Some fish take pollutants from the environment and water in which they live in and the food they eat .Some of these contaminants provoked in the form of tumourous growth. The word tumour has often been used in a general way to signify any hump or swelling. But commonly the word tumour define as a new growth of cells which deviated from normal surroundings cells in shape, size, structure and organization. The present study deals with neoplastic growth and as well as trematode infection. The intensity of infection was noted for the whole period of investigation from January 2009 to December 2012. During the study 2,373 species of fish were examined, out of which 1,178 were found to be infected by helminths. Mostly the trematodes and neoplastic growth were observed in fish Johnius dussumieri (Valenciennes, 1833) called as “Mushka” of Karachi coast. In case of trematodes the maximum prevalence was recorded during the hot (summer) season of the period while the minimum prevalence was observed in cold season. There were such a great variations observed during the period of study especially in case of neoplastic growth which varies in all the months. Statistical analysis was carried out by Descriptive Statistics, Descriptive Measures and Analysis of variance and Duncnan’s Multiple Range Test which revealed that there were significant difference in the monthly results of mean intensity of trematodes and as well as neoplastic growth. Gross pathological study shows that tumour was separated from the surrounding organs and showed no sign of proliferation. No haemorrhages were observed on the tumour or around the organs. Histopathologically the tumour shows hyperplasia, malpighian cells, atrophied cells, high prismatic basal cells, and fibrosis with eosinophilia and inflammatory cells infiltration. It is concluded that presence of trematode infection not only is responsible for various types of histopathological changes on the fish individually but it may also responsible to provoke bio-chemical changes to promote tumourous growth in most of the fishes under study. But some of the fishes under study shows only tumourous growth without any trematode infections which may be due to some pollutants which contaminate the water or the surrounding environment which are responsible for such type of growth in fishes.
