This study is an attempt to register the post 9/11 literary response to the terrorists'' attacks on WTC and Pentagon on September 11, 2001.It aims to explore the aftermath of 9/11 and investigate how successfully contemporary writers have managed to portray the impact of these events on both American and Non-American societies. The research design for this study is qualitative and the resources used are novels written in the aftermath of 9/11 by both Muslim and Non-Muslim American writers, including The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid; Once in a Promised Land by Laila Halaby; Falling Man by Don DeLillo and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. The events of 9/11 engendered trauma throughout the world especially in the US, therefore trauma and terrorism are core topics in most post 9/11 novels. In order to answer my research questions, I have used the theoretical apparatus of Jean Baudrillard, the French social theorist, although my main theorist is Kali Tal, a literary trauma theorist, who considers the responses to traumatic experience, including cognitive chaos and the possible division of consciousness, as an inherent characteristic of traumatic experience and memory. For this purpose I have used Fairclough’s Discourse Analysis to look at the writings of American writers as representatives of fiction produced in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. This research focuses on the reactions and responses of American writers, taking as its premise that since Americans are the direct victims of the attacks, American writers have written more than any other nation. The focus of these writings is death, loss, trauma, mourning and violence and most of the survivors are injured and shell-shocked as a result of the death of a loved one. The focus is on how the different characters learn to deal with personal tragedy in the face of a national loss and the similarities and differences in the treatment given to the subject by Muslim and Non-Muslim writers.

Analysis of Quarantine Service Quality on Ship Crew Satisfaction during the Covid-19 Pandemic at Belawan Sea Port

This study aims to analyze the quality of quarantine services on ship crew satisfaction during the Covid-19 pandemic at the Belawan Sea port. This study is a quantitative study with a cross sectional method which aims to analyze the quality of quarantine services on satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Belawan Sea Port using the ServQual approach which consists of physical evidence, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. The results of the study are expected to provide input regarding the quality of quarantine services provided by the Class I Medan KKP to ship crews during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the ServQual analysis, the results show that the satisfaction of the crew of the quarantine service at Belawan Port is very satisfying with a suitability level of 107.56% (the average service / reality score is 4.00 and the expectation score is 3.72). It is suggested to improve coordination and more intensive advocacy with shipping agents as intermediaries between officers and skippers as crew so as to reduce the length of service waiting time, in order to increase the number of human resources carrying out document checks on board, involving female medical officers for health checks The crew who came from affected countries/ports to facilitate information retrieval, ordered the boarding officers to bring Personal Protective Equipment when interacting with the crew.

Exploring the Perceptions of the Stakeholders About the Effective Teaching of English Language in Buber Gb

With the growing demands of English language in the global context, efforts are being made in the developing contexts to improve the quality of teaching. However, the teaching practices of English language vary from context to context based on the contextual realities. Several studies have been done to highlight the notion of effective teaching in terms of teachers' instructional strategies and the students' characteristics. The current study explored the perceptions of the stakeholders about the effective teaching of English in Gilgit Baltistan (GB). The study was carried out using the qualitative research paradigm. The data was collected through Focus Group Discussions (FGD), classroom observations and post observation interviews. Purposive sampling technique was used for the selection of participants. Out of four school in the village, three (one public one private and one community based) schools were selected. The research participants include three head teachers, six English language teachers and thirty students who participated in the FGD. Out of them three teachers, one from each school was selected for in-depth understanding which was done through classroom observation and post observation interviews. The analysis of the data focused on the perceptions of the stakeholders' (teachers, head teachers and students) effective teaching of English language. The major findings of the study showed that in the context of Buber GB English is taught as a subject rather than as a language. Moreover, it was found that English language is taught only from the examination point of view. The stake holders linked the effective teaching of English language with the students' success in the examination. English is generally taught through traditional methods particularly, Grammar Translation Method (GTM). The factors that influence the teachers' choice of selecting the methods are: lack of professional trainings, exam system of Pakistan and exam oriented syllabus, overcrowded classes, limited exposure, home environment and workload. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the teachers of English should be provided professional sessions about the variety of teaching methods. Particularly, they should be given awareness about ways of adapting the methods in order to make them contextually relevant.
