This study has been conducted to determine state of media freedom in Pakistan. Broadcast journalists from top news channels of Pakistan were approached to explore level of media freedom in the country in context of code of conduct 2015 formulated by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), the regulatory body for private news channels. This study has analysed state of media freedom being exercised by the channels based on perception of the broadcast journalists working in TV newsrooms under legal, political, economic and social environment. A survey was conducted to asnalyse perception of the professionals. It is found that political environment has major influence on, economic pressures are found to be the second most influence, social environment comes at third and surprisingly legal environment is found to be at minimum that restrain media freedom. PEMRA code was formulated for TV channels but the professionals don’t think these rules snub media freedom. In many cases the professionals agree to the PEMRA code, which shows that professionals accept as well as agree to practice responsible journalism based on the principles
