This study investigated the issue of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in context of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The study focused on exploring CSR related activities of SMEs in the province and their underlying motivations. Moreover, major barriers faced by SMEs in addressing social, economic, and environmental concerns are identified. Mixed-method research methodology is used in two phases of research. The first phase of the research was based on qualitative study which helped in exploring practices of CSR in SMEs along with motivations and barriers. In-depth interviews were conducted from managers and owners of SMEs. Moreover, through adopting ground theory approach, the rich information from interviews was analyzed to extract emerging themes. Qualitative study helped in exploring six major themes related to CSR practice, three major themes on motivations of the CSR, and two themes on barriers of CSR in SMEs. Furthermore, a questionnaire was constructed based on themes emerged during first phase of the study and a conceptual model was formed with relational hypothesis. In the second phase, quantitative methodology is used to test the validity of developed instrument and hypotheses testing. A randomly selected sample of 469 respondents from SMEs was subjected to analysis. Unifactoriality of the constructs was tested with Principal Component Analysis. The results of tests indicated that items related to each construct correlate with each other and hence provide a sufficient evidence of constructs validity. In order to test the relational hypothesis, structural equation modeling (SEM) technique is deployed. Key Words: Corporate Social Responsibility, SMEs, Motivations, Barriers, Mixedmethod research

Youth play an important and key role in the development of a nation. They bring change and progress in society. Youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the partners of today. Revolutionary thoughts only come in youth. Youth of any nation play a pivotal role in all the activities in all the fields of life. All the progress in the field of economics, engineering, medical, arts, politics are the fruits of the passions, dreams and hope of youth. So keeping in view the importance of youth in this article, definition and true meaning of youth have be explained. What period is called a youth period? It is also been discussed in the light of the opinion of different thinkers and scholars. What should be the targets to train the youth. How can a young person be molded and trained into a pious, noble and honest person. This article answers all the questions. It is also suggested that Prophetic method to train the youth in order to fully utilize their capabilities, potentialities and abilities should be adopted. To give them respect, to educate and train them, to make them involve in constructive activities, to engage them in Halal earning and to develop confidence in them are the major action that should be taken to meet the challenges of the future and live a successful life in present. Today’s youth should dedicate their lives for Islam by contributing their time, energies and money, youth as the phase of life when an individual can grasp knowledge of Islam and follow it by utilizing his time and talent in the service of humanity by following prophet Muhammad as a role model. All these points are discussed in detail in this article

Convergence Between Theory and Practice of Islamic Banking: An Emperial Analysis

Islamic banking was launched with the hopes that it would provide an alternative banking system. Given that bank interest was deemed impermissible by majority of the Muslim jurists, therefore they sought to replace fixed-return model of banking with that of profit-and-loss sharing banking system. However, even after about half-century of experiment, Islamic banking is not completely based on profit-and-loss sharing. This study aims at developing a framework that can be used to evaluate convergence between theory and practice of Islamic banking. Objectives of Islamic banking are identified on the basis of its celebrated theory. A set of hypotheses or indicators are derived to reflect the achievement of these objectives in Islamic banking practice. Empirical methodologies and tools are developed to test these observable hypotheses. Finally, the study applies this methodology for investigating the extent to which Islamic banking practice has converged to its theory in Pakistan and Malaysia over time. The results indicate that the Islamic banking industry is largely struggling to approach its stated objectives in both countries.
