This thesis has two main objectives. The first objective of this thesis is to examine employees’ experience of HPWS in their respective business units. The second objective is to develop a conceptual model that determines how these perceptions are related to their wellbeing and performance. In doing so, both the mutual gains and conflicting outcomes perspectives have been examined. In addition, POS and JDR theories are proposed as alternative theoretical perspectives in examining the pathways through which HPWS can impact on employee wellbeing and business unit level performance. Specifically, building on the notion of JDR model, job control and supervisor support have been hypothesized as important resources to minimize the negative impact of excessive job demands on wellbeing. For the purpose of analysis, data had been collected from 828 employees from 140 business units in insurance industry of Pakistan. The structural equation modeling technique is used to validate the measurement model and for examining the inter-relationships among HPWS, employee wellbeing and business unit level performance. At business unit level, the findings lend support for mutual gains perspective. The pathway linking HPWS to business unit level performance via mutual gains perspective received strong support. The empirical findings show that: (1) AMO bundles of HPWS had strong positive influence on POS; (2) Only motivation bundle was significantly and negatively related to excessive job demands while ability and opportunity bundles had no impact on excessive job demands; (3) HPWS, through POS, showed positive impact on employee wellbeing; (4) job satisfaction fully mediates the relationship between HPWS and business unit level performance. Overall, the thesis indicates that while mutual gains perspective is useful in explaining the link between HPWS-wellbeing-performance, extending theory to include new explanatory variables such as POS increases our understanding of the underlying phenomena.

مرحوم اردو اورعربی دونوں زبانوں کے نامور ادیب، صحافی اورانشاء پرداز تھے۔عربی کی تعلیم مصر میں پائی تھی اورسید رشید رضا مرحوم جواپنے عہد کے اکابر علماء اورمحققین اورمصنفین میں سے تھے ان کے تلمیذ رشید تھے، اس لیے مرحوم عربی زبان بالکل مادری زبان کی طرح بولتے اورلکھتے تھے۔ مصر سے واپس آکر کلکتہ سے عربی کاایک جریدہ’’الجامعہ‘‘کے نام سے نکالا جو عربی کے اساتذہ اورطلباء میں بڑا مقبول ہوالیکن یہاں مولانا ابوالکلام کے دامان دولت سے وابستہ ہونے کے بعد انھوں نے اردواخبار نویسی کواپنا مستقل نصب العین زندگی بنا لیا اور بڑی محنت کاوش اورمشق ومزاولت کے بعد اس میں بھی اپنا خاص ایک ایسا اسلوب پیدا کیا کہ اردو زبان کے بھی صاحب طرزادیب بن گئے۔ اُن کی تحریر صاف سپاٹ،بہت سلیس وعام فہم مگرساتھ ہی ولولہ انگیز اور پُرجوش ہوتی تھی۔اس سلسلہ میں وہ اوّلاً ’الہلال‘ اور’البلاغ‘ کی ادارت میں مولانا ابوالکلام کے رفیق رہے اور پھر کلکتہ سے ہی متعدد اخبار خوداپنے نکالے، تقسیم کے بعدا پنا اخبار روزانہ ’آزاد ہند‘ اپنے لایق فرزند احمد سعید صاحب ملیح آبادی کے حوالہ کرکے دہلی چلے گئے اور انڈین کونسل فارکلچرل ریلیشنزکے سہ ماہی عربی مجلہ ’ثقافۃ الہند‘ کوبڑی قابلیت سے ایڈٹ کرتے رہے۔ اس کے علاوہ آل انڈیا ریڈیو اسٹیشن دہلی کے عربی پروگرام کے بھی ڈائریکٹر رہے۔ اخبارات و رسائل کی اڈیٹری کے باوجودتصنیف وتالیف اورترجمہ کا مشغلہ بھی رکھتے تھے چنانچہ متعدد کتابیں ترجمہ کیں اور کئی کتابیں تالیف کیں جن میں آخری ضخیم کتاب وہ ہے جومولاناابوالکلام آزاد پرہے اورغیر مطبوعہ ہے۔

Islam's entrance into the world created another part in human advancement and altered course of the history. Islamic Culture was progressively overwhelmed on the history and development in light of showing Quran, truth be told, heavenly Quran has impacted all social illicit relationships and individuals' lives. The part of Quran in history and its impacts on societies and social orders particularly, on workmanship which can be viewed as a critical achievement of human progress. Spread of Islam religion and the development of Islamic craftsmanship caused a sort of religious meeting and social association with be set up between various kinds of expressions particularly, music and Islamic customs. By and large, this paper features the interconnection between Islamic practices and story. This article demonstrates that there are different types of stories in Quran which have been produced by Islamic culture identifying with the Quran.

Relationship Between Managerial Practices of the Heads of the Educational Institutions and the Organizational Citizenship Behavior of Teachers.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between managerial practices of the head of educational institutions and the organizational citizenship behavior of teachers. The study was carried out to achieve three objectives: (a) To analyze the existing managerial practices of secondary school heads, (b) to study the organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) of teachers of secondary schools and (c) to investigate the relationship between managerial practices and OCB of secondary school teachers. In order to achieve set objectives, following research questions were designed: 1. How do heads of the secondary schools exercise their managerial practices with regard to Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness? 2. How do the teachers of secondary schools play their role in the context of Altruism, Conscientiousness/Generalize compliance, Sportsmanship Courtesy and Civic Virtue? 3. What is the relationship between managerial practices of Secondary school heads and OCB of teachers? The population of the study comprised of all (1618) Heads and (21780) teachers of Secondary Schools of KPK. Multistage sampling technique was used. There are six divisions in the province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Divisional headquarter of each division was selected as sample. From each district thirty four (Ten male urban, ten female urban, seven male rural and seven female rural) were chosen as a sample. In this way total sample for the study was 204 schools from six districts. For the purpose of collection of data two questionnaires based on five points Likert scale were developed, one each for heads and one for teachers. Questionnaires were distributed among head and three teachers from each school. Questionnaire for heads comprised of forty five (45) items covering necessary aspects of managerial skills and questionnaire for teachers also consisted forty five (45) items based upon organizational citizenship behavior. Data was collected by the researcher himself by visiting each and every sample school. The collected data was tabulated and analysed by using SPSS version 16. Mean, standard deviation, correlation, ANOVA and regression were used for analyses. Findings of the study show that at present heads of the institutions are using dominance, influence, steadiness and conscientiousness (DISC) model to some extent in an informal way and teachers are aware with different aspects of organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). The study also revealed that there is a strong relationship between managerial skills of heads and organizational citizenship behavior of teachers. On the bases of research findings, it has been concluded that the Heads of the secondary schools perform four basic managerial skills i.e. dominance, influence, steadiness and conscientiousness while interacting with Teachers’ OCB, in order to execute different administrative as well as teaching tasks. At the end, the researcher made some recommendations.
