The biggest dilemma of modern age is Terrorism. While on one side, terrorism has extinguished countless lives, left physical scars and psychologically hampered masses; on the other side it has also displaced millions of people. Vast literature on the effects of terrorism on mental health of people is available across cultures, but there are very few studies that have highlighted psychological impact of terrorism on internally displaced women. The present study is an endeavor to focus on the mental health of one of this neglected segment of society, in Pakistan. Studies on mental health of people affected by Terrorism worldwide, revealed high levels of post traumatic stress disorder as one of the major negative outcome of the trauma. However there are some recent studies that have highlighted some positive changes too that an individual may experience as a result of struggling with the trauma, called post traumatic growth (PTG). The present study investigated both the post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as the development of post traumatic growth( PTG) among internally displaced women (N=130) from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) who were living in the IDP camps. Furthermore, the researcher also examined the differences in PTSD scores of the respondents vis-à-vis their marital status, differences and severity of trauma resulting from loss of a family member or close relative/s. This study also explored the unique relationship of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with post traumatic growth (PTG) and locus of control (LOC) among the sample. In addition to this, general mental health of the sample was also assessed along with its relationship with PTSD. Age range of the sample was16- 60 years (Mean age = 39.94, S.D = 13.95). Results indicated that majority of the sample had at least some symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder and slightly less than half of the sample (40.8%) met the diagnostic criteria of PTSD. Findings revealed a significant difference between married and unmarried women on PTSD scale, with married women obtaining significantly higher scores on PTSD scale as compared to unmarried respondents. Besides, bivariate correlation revealed that age was also strongly correlated with PTSD. Therefore, further analysis (ANCOVA) was conducted, controlling for women’s age. Our findings revealed that marital status was no longer significantly associated with PTSD symptoms. Further, though loss of family member/s did not reveal a significant difference in the scores of PTSD among the sample, yet it was observed that women who lost family member in terrorism scored relatively higher on PTSD scale. PTSD was negatively associated with PTGI in the preliminary analysis (r =-.14) but post hoc analysis when conducted, by regressing post traumatic growth (PTG) onto post traumatic stress symptoms ( PTSD), revealed a significant quadratic effect. Hence the study demonstrated a significant curvilinear relationship between PTSD and PTG. Respondents with fewer PTSD symptoms reported lower levels of growth, whereas respondents having moderate levels of PTSD symptoms exhibited higher levels of growth. Surprisingly when PTSD symptoms became severe, the growth levels dropped down. In this study the relationship of PTSD and locus of control (LOC) could not be verified as all the respondents rated themselves extremely high on God locus of health control scale (GLHC). In fact there was no variability in the scores on GLHC scale among the sample. Findings also revealed a strong positive correlation between General mental Health symptoms (GHQ) and PTSD. The present research on one side, provides a detailed analysis of PTSD and the factors that contribute toward PTSD among internally displaced women from remote areas of Pakistan, whereas on the other side it has also revealed positive outcomes following trauma: Post traumatic growth and its relationship with post traumatic stress disorder in a unique combination of terrorism and internal displacement.

The Importance of Emerging Sciences & Technology in the Light of Quran & Prophetic Teachings

Science and technology is on top position contemporary now it is need of our masses to compare these formulas with holy Quran because Quran is miracle and implementable till the day of  Judge ment  lot of scientists have benefited by Quran and they also agree up on the excellence of Quran. Hence in this research we have to prove dominancy of Quran over on the science and technology the hints of new inventions and discoveries are available in Quran if we study the Quran deeply we will find in it complete agreement with modern science however it was revealed in that time people were not aware from scientific inventions and they have not know-how of it. Comparatively this time is well advanced period and lot of things invented while concept of these things was present in this sky book I have drawn intention of readers on these points. In this research I would discussed that importance of science and technology specially the sub subjects of the modern science math and statistics geology, astronomy, space sciences, Embryology, Genetics and computer technology. It should be remember that the exposition of this book is also two types scientifically and logically because Quran invites us towards intelligence and wisdom.   It is responsibility of scholars to interpret the Quran contemporary because this is not merely ancient book but it is for all times and not for Arabs but for guide line of whole humanity of entire universe. It is challenges itself that no any kind of error or mistake in it foes of Islam tried to find faults but they not succeeded to do so resulting they affirmed dignity of it over on all the books.

Chemical & Biological Investigation on the Secondary Metobolites of Pakistani Medicinal Plants Ehretia Acuminata and Atriplex Lasiantha

Pakistan is blessed with hundereds of species of medicinal plants, however a very small fraction of these plants has been evaluated so far for their curative potentials. In Pakistan, most of the people trust on herbal medicines due to common belief of safety and economical reasons. Therefore, there is a need of systematic and well organized study of these plants to explore their therapeutic potential. Research described in this thesis is an effort to find new plants that could provide new principle leads to solve health issues of people by local sources. The present Ph. D. thesis deals with the, “Chemical and Biological Investigation on the Secondary Metabolites of Pakistani Medicinal Plants; E h r e t i a A c u m in a t a and Atriplex Lasiantha”. The whole dissertation has been divided into five chapters. Chapter 1 offers a comprehensive overview of role of natural products in human health and also provides a mini review of important bioactive secondary metabolites and drugs derived from different natural sources. In Chapter 2 a brief phytochemical survey of various species of the genus Atriplex has been incorporated. Chapter 3 covers detailed structure elucidation of the isolated compounds isolated from Atriplex lasiantha, evaluation of their biological activity, experimental procedures and spectroscopic data. The methanolic extract of Atriplex lasianta showed Summary ii anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant and enzyme inhibitory properties, therefore, the extract was partitioned into n- hexane, ethylacetate and water fractions. The ethyle acetate fraction was subjected to chromatographic purification. This fraction afforded 15 compounds out of which atrioleanoside (152) has been isolated for the first time from any natural source, whereas, others were decalred as from new source. The compounds isolated in sufficient quantity were tested for Anti-bacterial, Anti-oxidant and anti-urease activity. Among the tested compound, 152- 155 and 161 showed good results.Chapter 4 includes the literature survey of phytochemicals isolated from different species of the genus Ehretia. Chapter 5 describes detailed structure elucidation of the compounds isolated from Ehretia acuminata, evaluation of their biological activity, experimental procedures and spectroscopic data. The methanolic extract of Ehretia acuminata showed anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant and enzyme inhibitory properties, therefore, the extract was partitioned between n-hexane, ethylacetate and water fractions. n-Hexane fraction was subjected to chromatography to get three compounds 174, 235 and 236. Similarly ethyl acetate fraction was treated in the same fashion and afforded 10 compounds 171, 194, 227- 234. Overall 13 compounds were isolated from Ehretia acuminate. All these compounds are already reported from different natural sources; however these are isolated for the first time from Ehretia acuminata. The compounds isolated in sufficient quantity were tested for antibacterial, anti-oxidant and anti-urease activity. Compound 171, 174, 192, 227, 232, 234 and 236 showed good results for anti-oxidant activity and anti-bacterial activity but were inactive in anti-urease assay.
