Anomaly based Intrusion detection systems have proved their worth by detecting zero age intrusions but suffers from large number of false alarms mainly because of imprecise definitions of their normal profile or detection models. Building accurate and precise normal profiles or detection models for intrusion detection is a complex process. It is because it involves highly dynamic network behavior, concept drift phenomenon and evolving intrusion patterns. To accommodate these network dynamics in intrusion de- tection models, we require extensive training data-sets. These data sets must contain a uniform distribution of theoretically possible intrusion patterns and normal network traffic instances. Deviation in training data-set with real time network data and skewed class distribution in training data set will result in a biased detection model. Concept drift phenomenon, huge network data, highly imbalance traffic distribution, addition of new applications and abstract boundaries between normal and abnormal behavior has limited the accuracy of generalized detection models or shortened their detection models useful life. Due to these limitations and complexities in building long term intrusion de- tection models, it is proposed in this thesis that instead of building a generalized profile responsible for detecting all the intrusions it is more helpful if short-term profiles are used to detect an intrusion or even a phase of an intrusion active in certain time space. These short term profiles are evolved by changing cost functions according to changed anomaly conditions, current network traffic patterns and security policies. The evolved profiles remain valid for a short period of time in which network dynamics can be as- sumed as piece-wise linear. In this thesis an anomaly based Adaptive SEmi-supervised Evolutionary Security (ASEES) fuzzy framework is proposed. It is based on adaptive distributed and cooperative fuzzy agents which use evolved short-term profiles. These profiles are evolved for different objectives to detect specific intrusions. Evolved pro- files are switched and activated according to current network and anomaly conditions, network security policies and based on forecasted attacks. The ASEES fuzzy framework is tested under two different attacks; DoS attack and viireconnaissance attack i.e. port scan. The results show good detection times and high detection rate due to similarity of the training and testing data-set. The results also shows a performance increase in using short term profiles along with generalize normal profiles for denial of service attacks.

Integration of Madrassh Islamic Seminary Education With Formal Education System in Pakistan: Challenges and Opportunities

ABSTRACT: Extremism remains the main concern for global security after 9/11 event. Western countries consider the religious intolerance in Muslim countries as a source of prevailing extremism. Pakistani Madaris (seminaries) are considered as a place for indoctrination of extremism and intolerance. The questions need to be addressed that why and how religious students tended towards extremism. The evidence shows that in Pukhtoon Society; the traditional social institutions of Hujra (Community center) and Jumaat (Mosque) relationship is also affected in post Afghan Soviet war. Hujra (Pukhtoon Community centre) which is traditionally the main supporter and financer of Jumaat (Mosquereligious institution) ; now seems to be overpowered by the religious institutions after getting trained and motivated organized Taliban (students of Indigenous Islamic Education System) and financial freedom after Afghan Soviet war. In this paper the question of legal status given to Taliban and their education status by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is discussed. For exploring to answer this question both primary and secondary sources of data are used. The study concluded that no properly defined legal status exists for the millions of Taliban graduates in the state; and the aspired streamlining efforts of Madaris with formal education are non productive and ineffective. Even the supreme court of Pakistan is unanswered about the legal status of these graduates. Legislators elected in 2002 National Election faced cases in Supreme Court of Pakistan of their ineligibility based on the in¬ equivalency of their Madaris Sanad (Degree) to the formal University Degree of Pakistan. Government of Pakistan tried to mainstream Madaris education with formal education system of Pakistan, through changing their curricula which is all time resisted by Madaris. It is concluded at the end of the study of integrating Madaris education with formal education system in vertical arrangement rather than in horizontal or lateral arrangement (change of curriculum and amalgamation of courses etc.) . The approach of Vertical arrangement acknowledge the importance and value of both systems and provide benefits to the stakeholders in large. Different modalities are discussed in this paper.

Determinants of Personal Well-being with mediating Role of Workaholics: A Study of Non-Compulsive

Workaholics from Universities of Multan District One of the significant sources of competitive advantage for an organization is its human capital. Focusing on human capital, the purpose of the study was to explore the effect of intrinsic motivation, self-esteem, and external and internal locus of control on the personal well-being through the mediating effect of workaholism. A person when working for the organizational well being is a possibility that he/she may become workaholic but when they are working for their personal well-being do they get demotivated on work through workaholism or not. Exploratory factor analysis, Confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling were carried out to test the hypothesized relationships in the data provided by 348 administrative staff of the Universities of Multan District. This study provides novel insight into the understanding of role of Workaholism towards personal well-being. Initially as literature commends the role of Workaholism was considered to be more well-being oriented than its negative out comes on life satisfaction of employees. This study adds new evidences which report that Workaholism nullifies the positive impact of important predictor of well being. The new relationships add significantly to the understanding Workaholism.
