The power electronic researchers and designers are involved since last two decades in designing converter topologies for their effective use in high power applications. Recently, developed SAB converter being an advanced topology is gaining popularity because of its many attractive features. Despite of its attractive characteristics and merits it faces a serious problem of the generation of oscillations. These oscillations create disturbances in the systems network and also badly affect the performance of the converter itself. Such topologies with conventional controllers are also produce power quality problems such as; variation in frequency, voltage dips and swells, which lead to interruptions and transients in system networks. As it is a well known fact, that SAB converter is a variable structure system due to its switching operation and contains nonlinearities. Because of the high switching speed of SAB converter, i.e. in nano seconds, it is difficult to control it with linear controllers. In previous research the Proportional plus Integral (PI) controllers were used which were unable to control the SAB converter under nonlinear situations and ultimately this will lead to undesired results. Considering the deleterious effects and limitations of the conventional controllers in this research the Neural Network based controller is designed to handle the non-linear situations. Neural Network Controller (NNC) is recently found various applications in power electronic converters because of its good dynamic behavior and robustness. Designing of the Neural Network Controller for SAB converter is the main contributions in this research work. The NNC type cascade controller for SAB converter is successfully developed in MATLAB. The performance of single active bridge topology with NNC is tested under steady state, transient and dynamic region by considering the, line, duty ratio and reference voltage variations. Simulation results show improvements in transients and reference variation in the range of 26% to 38% respectively and 6 time improvement in line variation and 30 time improvement in duty ratio variation. The designed controller after through analysis, testing and comparison with previous designed controllers depicts that the neural network based controller is quite effective, efficient and has good transient and steady-state properties. Keywords: DC/DC converters, Single-Active Bridge converter, Neural Network Controller, Feed Forward Neural Network.

Dehumanization of Refugees: A Postcolonial Eco-Critical Study of Mohsin Hamid’s Exit West

This paper explores Mohsin Hamid’s literary representation of dehumanization of refugees in the age of globalization, the exploitation of humans and their land, as well as the impact of migration on the lives of the migrants in his novel Exit West. The research uses the theoretical framework of postcolonial ecocriticism by Huggan and Tiffin to critically analyze the primary text. This research employs qualitative method to draw parallels between the exploitation of humans and their environment in Hamid’s novel while exploring the dehumanized treatment of refugees, reasons of migration, and the role of war, science and technology in the destruction of environment in this particular narrative. Textual analysis, more specifically, content analysis is used as a method to link the global humanitarian and environmental crisis in the primary text under the Postcolonial Eco-critical ideology.

the Significance of Knowledge Sharing Tools in Higher Education Institutions of Punjab, Pakistan: Mediation Model of Self Determination

This research endeavored to develop and empirically test a conceptual model examining the impact of knowledge sharing tools on students’ knowledge through the intervening role of perceived competence, relatedness, and autonomy in higher education institutions (HEIs) of Pakistan, and it examines the applicability of the concepts in HEIs of Pakistan. One repercussion of globalization is the development of knowledge economies. The makeover and advancement process of knowledge less to knowledge based economies has been apparent as the only way to avoid them from becoming dependent on knowledgeable economies. Currently, knowledge management (KM), which is the handling of information and resources, is attracting attention. Among the most discussed and debated areas in KM are knowledge creation and knowledge use. Knowledge plays a key role in revolution; knowledge is neither data nor information, it is, though, both, which leads to wisdom (T. H. Davenport & Prusak, 1998). This study was conducted with the aim to examine the effects of knowledge sharing tools (i.e. trust, motivation, technology, teacher role, and teacher enthusiasm) on students’ tacit and explicit knowledge outcomes in HEIs of Pakistan. To examine the effects of the selected predictors on students’ knowledge outcomes, a self-administered questionnaire was employed. The results were analyzed by applying different quantitative techniques. The sample size of this research was 4012 students from ten public and private HEIs in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The data were collected by using multi-stage sampling and the data were analyzed by applying regression analysis. The empirical findings of this study demonstrate that utilization of knowledge sharing tools in HEIs is a significant driver for students’ knowledge outcomes. In particular, it is probable that perceived competence, relatedness, and autonomy support knowledge outcomes through a more efficient application of knowledge sharing tools. In addition, the empirical findings illustrate that knowledge sharing tools play an important role in enhancing students’ knowledge outcomes in HEIs along with dimension of self-determination theory. This study concludes that KM should be fully integrated and it should be on the strategic agenda of HEIs in Pakistan. Thus, this study recommends that HEIs should prioritize KM practices to exploit knowledge and to explore new knowledge.
