In this study the response of calli lines of Oryza sativa L. cv.Swat-1 adapted to ion specific stress (25mM LiCl) was investigated to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of adaptations at the cellular level and their stability at regenerant stage. The physiological and biochemical parameters revealed that adaptation caused a decrease in proline, Na+, Na+/K+ratio, protein content and regeneration capability, while K+,Ca++and Mg++concentration enhanced. Exposure of cell lines to interactive effect of NaCl and CaCl2 showed that high calcium reduced the Na+ toxic effect on relative growth rates of both the cell lines with a concomitant increase in K+, Ca++ and Mg++ content respectively. While total sugar and proline contents of unadapted line increased and of adapted line decreased. Adaptation caused the appearance of one new protein band of about 67 kDa which remained stable under 200mM NaCl stress. While this band slightly appeared in unadapted line with degradation of other low molecular weight protein e.g. 17, 19 and 20 kDa. High calcium chloride caused upregulation of 67 kDa band with restoration of the damaged proteins except 17 kDa band. Regenerants and plantlets of adapted line showed excessive accumulation of osmolytes (sugar, proline) compared to accumulation in unadapted line. On the other hand the proteins’ banding pattern of regenerants was found to be similar to their respective lines. Interestingly 67 kDa band disappeared from the shoot of regenerated plantlets but was present in roots. No polymorphism was detected when 17 SSR markers related to Saltol region , 6 SSR markers for Na+/K+ ratios and one each for Na+/H+ antiport K+/Na+ symporter activity at plasma membrane was used. Transcriptional and translational inhibitors studies showed that changes due to adaptation were at translational/software level. This study reveals that the adaptation to ionic stress and supplemental CaCl2 under NaCl stress works on a similar principal of cellular homeostasis regain and adaptation at the cellular level is transferable (stable) to complete plant level.

اعظم گڑھ کی سرزمین سے تین شبلی پیدا ہوئے، اور اتفاق سے تینوں کسی نہ کسی حیثیت سے ندوہ سے وابستہ رہے، ایک نے وہاں تعلیم و تربیت پائی اور شبلی متکلم کے خطاب سے مشہور ہوئے، اس وقت مدرسۃ الاصلاح سرائے میر کے مہتمم اور صدر مدرس ہیں، دوسرے اس کے معتمد تعلیم بلکہ روح رواں تھے، جن کو دنیا علامہ شبلی کے نام سے جانتی ہے، تیسرے مولانا شبلی فقیہ ندوہ تھے، جنھوں نے نہ وہاں تعلیم پائی اور نہ کسی خاص شہرت کے مالک ہوئے، مگر ندوہ اور ندویوں کو ان کی ذات سے ان کے دوسرے ہمنام بزرگوں سے کم فائدہ نہیں پہنچا، ندوہ کے ابتدائی چند سالوں کے علاوہ اس کی پچاس سالہ زندگی کے ہر دور میں یہ ہمارے مولانا شبلی نظر آئیں گے، اس دور کا کوئی ایسا ندوی نہیں ہے، جو ان کا شاگرد نہیں، اور ان کے سامنے اس نے زانوے تلمذ تہ نہیں کیا۔
ولادت اور تعلیم و تربیت: غالباً ۱۸۷۲؁ء میں ضلع اعظم گڑھ کے ایک گاؤں جیراجپور میں پیدا ہوئے، ابتدائی تعلیم کے بعد عربی کی تحصیل کے لئے فرنگی محل لکھنو اور پھر مدرسہ عالیہ رامپور گئے، وہاں کئی برس رہ کر تعلیم کی تکمیل کی۔
مولانا اپنے قیام رامپور کا قصہ اکثر بیان کرتے تھے، فرماتے تھے کہ دو ڈھائی روپیہ ماہانہ کل خرچ ہوتا تھا، دن میں دونوں وقت کھانا کھاتا تھا، ۴ چراغ کے تیل پر خرچ ہوتا تھا، اور ۴ دھوبی صابون وغیرہ اور ۲؍۴ حجامت وغیرہ پر۔
تکمیل تعلیم کے بعد ہی مولانا مدرسہ چشمہ رحمت غازیپور میں صرف و نحو کے مدرس مقرر ہوئے۔

الفكر السياسي الإسلامي وتطوره من الشورى إلى الديمقراطية

There has been a tussle going on between Islam and democracy for many decades in the Muslim world which has benefited most certainly the anarchic factions like kings, lords and army dictators. Though democracy is close to Islam and thought to be the best of all types of governments as majority is authority in it that may make or mar the government. In a democratic setup, the individual and personal rights and freedom are considered which is why it is preferred more these days. Many as Muslim thinkers are also in favor of it, but still there is a large faction of clerical scholars who deem democracy as the root of all evils since it empowers general public as an authoritative and decisive force. However with the passage of time, the Islamic counseling system has evolved and come very close to the spirit of democracy. Therefore, may contemporary scholars hold Islamic counseling and democracy almost similar. This article aims to present a preview of democracy and counseling in the light of what the Ulema (Scholars) say about it.

Molecular and Biochemical Basis of Onion Basal Rot Management by Trichoderma Spp. and Sisymbrium Irio L.

The present study was undertaken to find out the antifungal constituents of ethyl acetate soluble fraction of methanolic leaf extract of London rocket weed (Sisymbrium irio L.). To achieve this objective, methanolic leaf extract was partitioned using various organic solvents including ethyl acetate. Different concentrations of ethyl acetate fraction were prepared which ranged from 1.562 to 200 mg mL-1, and evaluated against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepae isolated from diseased onion. A significant reduction in fungal biomass of 77–93% was recorded due to different concentrations of this fraction. GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of 7 constituents in the fraction. Among these 1,3-Cyclopentadiene, 5-(1-methylethyllidene) (26.31%) and Di-n-octyl phthalate (26.28%) were the most abundant followed by Acetic Acid, butyl ester (11.67%) and γ-Sitosterol (11.64%). Presence of these compounds may be responsible for antifungal behavior of this fraction against the pathogen of basal rot disease of onion.
