Extensive use of antimicrobials has led to evolution of bacterial resistance. Pathogenic exposure of plants stimulates the synthesis of an array of proteins and peptides against the pathogenic micro-organisms which are potential sources for the development of new pharmacological formulations to treat different diseases. The present project was devoted to screening of a medicinal plant Psoralea corylifolia (P. corylifolia) for antifungal and antibacterial activites of seeds and seedlings under Fusarium solani stress. Also seed and seedling protein extracts obtained at different time intervals after the fungal stress were evaluated for cytotoxic, mutagenic and antioxidant activities. Maximum antimicrobial activity was shown against Escherichia coli and Pasteurella multocida among bacterial strains and Fusarium solani and Trichoderma harzianum among fungal strains. Minimum inhibitory concentrations of protein extracts ranged in 0.125-0.25 µM concentration. A peptide of 9 kDa was isolated from SDS-PAGE analysis at 8 hour post induction that could have therapeutic potential in future. P. corylifolia seeds crude extract and eight hour induced protein extract possessed significant antitumor and cytotoxic activities (P < 0.05). Protein extracts showed potential antioxidant activity with P < 0.05. Mutagenic activity of P. corylifolia was also evaluated and they were also found to be non-mutagenic. Six defensin genes were amplified from DNA isolated from P. corylifolia. In conclusion, the present study has allowed characterization of the bioactive potential of P. corylifolia. Further study of isolated peptides and genes could unveil the defense mechanism against cancer and development of healthier transgenic plants.

Gog and Magog Interpretations by Modern Scholars and its Application on Contemporary Nations: An Analytical Study According to the Islamic point of view Gog and Magog (Ya’jūj Ma’jūj), are two such supernatural and aggressive powers that will reveal from some unknown place. According to Islamic sources the two disbelieving powers (tribes) are the children of Yāfith son of Noah. Humanity will affect badly at their severely harmful activities on the earth. In the beginning they were free into some unknown place. The famous king Dhulqarnayn imprisoned them behind an unknown thick wall in human history. There are many conjectures regarding the wall, and it is sometimes considered in any Norwegian country because of too long duration of sunrise in these countries. Their population will be 10 times more than the World’s populations. They will be so much trouble creating nation from the race of Noah (A.S) even Isa (Christ) will take refuge on the mountain of Toor and Muslims will pray Allah to get rid of them. Today some modern Islamic researchers have been claiming that they are in fact, Chines or Russians as we find their resemblance in prophet's traditions. In this article, an attempt has been made to unveil the disputed matter that either they exist in current age in form of living peoples or some hidden which will be revealed before the end of time. The purpose of this research is to revisit different speculations about Gog and Magog as we find them also into the Bible. Many Muslims research took effect from Bible’s concept ignoring the traditions of the prophet and find out many different solutions which, according to me are to be seen into the true and clear facts by Quran and Sunnah.

Robust/Optimal Control of Minimum-Phase Nolinear Systems

This thesis proposes a framework that provides suboptimal control laws for a class of minimum-phase nonlinear systems. This class includes systems whose state dynamics are an algebraic sum of their linear and nonlinear sub-dynamics. We propose a systematic method of designing a robust and optimal control law which essentially consists of two components a linear and a nonlinear. It is shown that the proposed control scheme achieves stabilization while providing suboptimality for the class of systems under consideration. Furthermore, the framework provides for a mechanism which is suitable for handling tracking and regulation problems for the class of minimum-phase nonlinear systems by using the Internal Model Principle. Astrikingfeatureoftheproposedframeworkistheflexibilityofstartingwithsynthesizing a Linear-Quadratic-Regulator for linear sub-dynamics of the system and then including a nonlinear control component that stabilizes the nonlinear sub-dynamics of the system. The flexibility offered by the proposed framework is applied firstly to a general class of linear parameter-varying and linear time-varying systems. We extend the flexibility obtained for these two systems to the class of minimum-phase nonlinear systems which are decomposable through existence of an appropriate transformation into their linear and nonlinear sub dynamics. Moreover, we also propose a simplified approach to obtain an approximate yet practical solution to the nonlinear optimal control problem by replacing the requirement of solving Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations with that of the Riccati partial differential equations, andthensynthesizingthenonlinearcomponentofthecontrollawtoachieverobust and suboptimal stabilization
