Living organisms are equipped with sophisticated mechanisms to minimize the hazards and threats offered by the nature and maximize their survival potential against strain imposed by environmental forces. Growing concern about the frequent use of analogous antibiotics leading to resistant pathogens and their harmful impacts on crop yield worldwide has fuelled an explosion in the field of plant defense response by coupling biotechnology to the medicinal plants. Increasing knowledge of the mechanisms underlying plant defense response has also encouraged the idea that sensitizing a plant towards microbial elicitors increases plant resistance to the potential pathogens. Considering the same thought of knowledge, this study was entailed to examine the bioactive potential of Silybum marianum under control and fungal stress. Peptide based multidimensional studied of the plant with reference to antimicrobial, antioxidant, antitumor, cytotoxic and mutagenic potential were undertaken. A time course study of the extracts prepared under fungal stress strongly revealed the increased accumulation of proteins/peptides upto 8 hours post inoculation with a drop in the expression level at subsequent hours. Encouraging results regarding antibacterial potential towards gram negative species and highly significant antifungal potential were also observed. In addition to antimicrobial potential, plant also showed beneficial traits as antitumor and nonmutagenic against Agrobacterium tumefaciens and human cell lines respectively. As far as antioxidant and cytotoxic potential is concerned, all the extracts had excellent antioxidant capacity whereas among all, 8 h control and its treated time points showed slight cytotoxicity. Rewarding bioactive potential of Silybum marianum eventually led to the identification of peptides involved in cellular metabolism, plant growth and development, signal transduction and exclusively to the peptides involved in defense response. Antimicrobial gene isolation with subsequent cloning and heterologous expression has proved substantial pharmaceutical importance of the plant which may open novel avenues for biotechnological applications in agriculture.

Since the inception of Islam, the translation of Quran’s meanings into other languages has always been an incessant need of the non-Arab Muslims. Although there are contrast views of Muslim scholars about the translatability and untranslatability of Quran into other languages for its innate miraculous meanings, tremendous efforts have been made, throughout the history, to make Quran easy for general public. Urdu is one of those languages in which Quran has been translated since Islam has brightened horizon of the sub-Continent. This research deals with the shortest Surah of Quran that contains plethora of meanings and rhetorical secrets with least letters, words and sentences. The research paper comprises of: Eloquence of al-Kawthar hinting the hidden semantic meanings. The problems of translating this chapter keeping in view to encompass the meanings of semantic eloquence during its translation. The researcher has confined the study to four Urdu Translations:   Translation of Sheikh Abdul Qadir, Translation of Sheikh Ashraf Ali Thanwi, Translation of Sheikh Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi Translation of Sheikh Abdul Majid Derya Abadi). The article deals with highlighting the difference between rhetorical miracles in the Qur’anic text and the shortcomings of its translations in an explanatory table and the research work comes to end with valuable results and suggestions.

Attribution and Influence Perception of Success Among Male and Female Managers: A Perspective of Pakistani Private Sector Organizations

Thesis Title: ATTRIBUTION AND INFLUENCE PERCEPTION OF SUCCESS AMONG MALE AND FEMALE MANAGERS: A PERSPECTIVE OF PAKISTANI PRIVATE SECTOR ORGANIZATIONS This study investigated whether people’s attribution for success and failure do reflect identifiable dimensions and whether or not these were compatible with those proposed by Weiner (1985, 2004) mainly internal and external locus of control. Moreover, it also looked at the perceived influence used by managers, mainly rationality, ingratiation and exchange maneuvers. It was hypothesized that success will be attributed more to internal factors like ability etc; whereas failure will be attributed to external factors like luck etc. The gender of the managers was believed to influence the attributions made, with males’ success and females’ failure attributed to internal causes. For influence perceptions, it was hypothesized that success will be attributed to the usage of ingratiation and exchange maneuvers as well as rationality maneuvers. As for the gender of the managers, it was hypothesized that males’ success will be assigned to the more frequent usage of rationality maneuvers, whereas the success of female managers will be assigned to the more frequent usage of ingratiation and exchange maneuvers. The design of the study was experimental and four hundred employees from the private sector organizations of Pakistan participated in this investigation. The overall design of this study was a 2 (managers: most successful/least successful) X 2 (manager’s sex: male/female) X 2 (participants sex: male/female) between-subjects factorial. This means that this was a 2x2x2 factorial design because three independent variables were examined: the managers’ success, the managers’ gender and the subjects’ gender all with two categories each. Data was gathered with the help of a self-report questionnaire with closed questions that included scaled items. MANOVA and ANOVA techniques were performed to test the hypotheses. The results revealed only partial acceptance of the hypotheses proposed. As predicted, success by a male was assigned to skill (internal), whereas the lack of career success in a female was attributed to lack of skill (internal). For influence perceptions, male’s success was assigned to the more frequent use of rationality maneuvers compared to the other managers. The gender of the participants was not significant in the evaluations of the manager. Moreover limitations, future research, directions, and implications for organizations were also discussed.
