In present study, locally available honey bee propolis was characterized for its various physicochemical, antimicrobial properties and nutraceutical behaviour using animal modelling system for food applications. The compositional analysis depicted a higher content of ether extract along with mineral elements (K, Mg, Na, Ca, Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn) in variable amounts. Propolis extract using ethanol and methanol (65%, 80% & 95%) and water quantified for total phenolic contents (TPC) and characterized using HPLC. Antioxidant (DPPH activity, Beta-carotene assay) potential of the extracts was also evaluated. Ethanol extract (65%) propolis exhibited higher total polyphenols (327.30±14.89mg/gGAE) and better antioxidant potential (60.59±4.38%) and indicated maximum zone of inhibition against Escherichia coli (22.19±0.61mm) followed by Bacillus subtilis (26.37±0.31mm) and Staphylococcus aureus (29.18±1.13mm) followed by methanol extract (65%) for the same parameters. Functional propolis based drinks remained acceptable for two months of storage period when subjected to compositional analyses and sensory evaluation. Bio-evaluation based on the composition of diets given to rats: [study-I (normal diet), study-II (high sucrose diet), study-III (high cholesterol diet)] exhibited considerable increase in feed, drink intake and weight gain whereas, decreased hypercholesterolemia and hyperglycaemia. A pronounced decrease (p≤0.05) in serum glucose concentration and increase (p≤0.05) in insulin level was noticed in the ethanol extract drink while keeping liver and kidney functioning tests within normal values. It is deduced from the present exploration that locally available propolis possess significant antimicrobial properties against foodborne pathogens, antioxidant potential and hence may be considered for food applications during food product development to encourage diet based therapies ultimately promoting health management.

The Effect of Counseling and Training on Public Knowledge About Making Handsanitizer from Betel Extract

Hand sanitizers may help increase hand hygiene compliance as the results of invailability of basic needs for cleaning such as soap or water. Since alcohol has an irritating effect on the skin and burns quickly, it is currently discouraged as an active ingredient. Knowledge of covid 19 is critical for the world to have in order for individuals to be able to make informed choices on how to split the covid 19 transmission chain. This thesis employs a pre-experimental method that employs the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design approach. The paired t test was used to examine the relationship between the two variables, namely the betel leaf extract handsanitizer output preparation and the respondent's knowledge of the handsanitizer making process. Extension has an impact on increasing respondents' awareness of how to make natural hand sanitizers. The paired t-test findings indicate that the Sig. = 0.000 0.05, indicating that there is a discrepancy between the pretest and posttest. With a mean value of -5.967, this data indicates the average discrepancy between the pretest and posttest, with a range of -5.383 to -6.551 (95 percent CI), indicating that there is a difference between the pretest and posttest mean values, indicating that the pretest value has an influence on the post test. To stop the spread of Covid19, health care providers and the society must work together.

Impact of Employee Selection and Employee Development on Organizational Performance: A Study of Government and Private Sector Organizations

This study is conducted to evaluate the affects of employee selection and employee development on organizational performance. Both employee selection and employee development are important issues for organizations. These two variables have the potential to boost up the organizational performance. The Study shows that selection of right person is more critical than development of employee. A little mistake at the time of selection of employee will badly affect the organizational performance. Selections tools used in most of the organizations are out dated. Government organizations do not pay much attention on the development of employees. The study is based on data collected through questionnaire survey from three government and three private organizations located in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The results indicate that both these variables are positively correlated with organizational performance in government and private organizations but there intensities vary across organization. In government organizations employee selection is positively and significantly correlated with organizational performance, whereas employee development is weakly correlated but not statistically significant. In private organizations both employee selection and employee development are positively and significantly correlated to organizational performance. In government organizations, organizational performance is only 20.7% explained by these two variables while in private organizations it is 56.6%, so this difference clearly depicts that employee selection and employee development are main constituents of organizational performance.
