The experiments were conducted to explore the chelant-assisted lead (Pb) phyto-extraction and subsequent antioxidative responses in spinach and turnip plants under both controlled (Growth Incubator) environment and filed (natural) conditions. The seeds of turnip (Brassica Rapa L. cv. Purple Top) and spinach (Spinacea oleracea L. cv. Desi) were surface sterilized and sown in plastic pots filled with thoroughly washed sand. Later on, the same experiment was conducted in the field under natural conditions. In controlled experiment, after germination, 10 d old spinach and turnip seedlings were exposed to different Pb regimes (0, 2.42 and 4.83 mM). While in case of field experiment, 20 d old plants were expose to Pb regimes where the control plot exhibited 0.0218 mM Pb concentration. After 10 days of Pb application, 2.4 mM concentrations of different chelating agents viz., ethylenediamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA), citric acid (CA), oxalic acid (OA), tartaric acid (TA) and malic acid (MA) were applied to the plants both under controlled and field conditions. Different Pb regimes altered biomass and different physiobiochemical attributes in both crop species. On the other hand, the application of chelates, especially CA increased growth in both crop species. However, of the chelates, TA was much more effective in increasing tissue specific Pb concentrations in both crops. The beneficial effects of chelates attributed to the capacity to increase photosynthetic pigments, antioxidative enzymes and nutrient uptake under different Pb regimes. Both crop species were able to tolerate Pb levels applied. Furthermore, some chelates were able to reduce tissue specific toxic concentration of Pb leading to hormesis. Overall, the results elaborated the potential of chelates in increasing growth, biomass, and thus suggested their use for phytoextraction of Pb. Based on the effectiveness of TA in increasing root Pb concentrations in case of turnip and shoot Pb concentrations in case of spinach suggested its use for phytoextraction of Pb in Pb-polluted environments.

Kafa'at is a term used in the field of Islamic jurisprudence which means equivalence and closeness between the expected spouse i.e. Male and female in specific area. So it may be defined as the compatibility or equivalence between the expected husband and his expected wife which have to be adhered to in future. This compatibility standard suggested by Islam is highly effective, that include religion, profession, wealth, lineage, moral and social standard. The Hanafi, the Shaft’s and the Hanbali schools concur in requiring kafa'at in religion (Islam), freedom (i.e. In his not being a slave), profession and lineage. These schools differ regarding kafa'at in wealth. The Hanafi and the Hanbali schools recognize it, while the Shaft’s school does not. The Maliki School do not accept the notion of kafa'at except in religion. The emphases of this Kafa'at are to make the spouse relation pleasant, everlasting and coherences. The alikeness suggested by Islam between male and female is also traditional and logical value which Islam highly encouraged. The hidden philosophy of Kafa'at is to build the relation between the expected spouses more effective and pleasant.

Mass Media and Mediated Wars: Role of Us Media in Iraq War 2003

Since September 11, 2001 the world has drastically changed as a result of catastrophic happenings in New York and Washington, DC, and the response of the Bush administration. Global security politics we witness today is largely constructed in the 9/11 ‘context’ and socially and discursively mediated ‘conduct’. The social and discursive ‘interpretation’ and ‘construction’ of 9/11 events in ‘legal and moral language’ triggered the US right of self-defense to wage war on global non-state actor al-Qaeda, its ‘evil’ leadership and sympathizer, Taliban regime, in Afghanistan. Following the US invasion of Afghanistan, then President Bush issued his ‘doctrine’ to fight against all ‘evil’ and ‘rogue’ regimes. In his subsequent speeches, he declared Saddam’s regime as the biggest threat to the US, due to its shared hatred with al-Qaeda against US values and way of life. This dissertation, by employing various theoretical currents of post-positivist tradition like identity theory, securitization theory and discourse theory, helps to make sense of the US invasion of Iraq in March, 2003. After conducting a discourse analysis of Bush’s war on Iraq narrative and The New York Times editorials, the present study seeks to substantiate that war is a social and discursive phenomenon; an outcome of socially prevalent and publically acceptable hegemonic narrative. The present research maintains that foreign policies are social and discursive performances grounded in language of identity, security and morality rather than objective or given political realities. Finally, it is agued that hegemonic foreign policy discourses are socially constructed which entail naturalized power relations therefore, they can and should be denaturalized by alterative consturctions.
