The date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) is known for its multifacid properties sustaining human life in most of the Asian countries. The date palms in Arabian and Asian countries have been severely infested by a serious pest known as Red Palm Weevil (RPW) (Rhynchophorus ferrugeneus) Olivier (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Rhynchophorinae) for the last three decades. In the present study, a survey was conducted in heavily infested areas of Pakistan. Our results show that RPW population increased in the months of March, April, May and June. There was a positive correlation between the RPW and temperature during 2014. However, relative humidity (RH) had an adverse impact on the RPW population. Maximum percent infestation was observed in Sindh (24.22%) and minimum in Baluchistan (8.16%). In an olfactometer based behavioral response study of the RPW, least antixenotic effect was displayed by a cultivar named as “Hillawi” with maximum attraction of R. ferrugineus adults (23.65±5%) while “Aseel” showed high antixenotic effect with maximum weevil’s attraction (13±3%). A perceptible general reduction in the different biochemical features and development has been observed under biotic pressure in all plants. In order to investigate the defense response in R. ferrugineus infested date palms, some common physiological indexes were determined. Level of antioxidants such as proline, MDA, ascorbic acid, catalase, peroxidase and soluble sugars increased in Hillawi & Aseel (12.03 & 9.4 μmole/g, 17.66 & 13.83 μmole/g, 7.06 & 6.06 μmole/liter, 0.756 & 0.663 μmole/mint/mg protein, 0.25 & 0.18 μmole/mint/gf wt and 60.33 & 50.01 μmole/mint/gf wt) upon infestation by R. ferrugineus. We also conducted DNA barcoding of R. ferrugineus and our sequencing results indictate no significant difference in the RPW weevils collected and phylogeny trees constructed by CO1 and ITS revealed that all the weevils tested showed not significant genetic variations with a similarity index of 99-100% with already reported from KSA (Mecca & Najran) and UAE. About 92% and 97% similarity with R. bilineatus and R. vulneratus respectively was observed. For the control of R. ferrugineus, we used different two nematode strains (S. carpocapsae and H. bacteriophora) and one fungus (B. bassiana), resulted a tremendous increase in the larval, prepupal and pupal duration of RPW. However, adult life span and weight were deceased. Diet consumption and frass production were also reduced with the combined applications of EPN and EPF. We have studied the level of insecticide resistance against cypermethrin caused by P450 genes in population of RPW collected from various regions of Pakistan. Results indicate that resistance level in the R. ferrugineus population was significantly different in the different laboratory populations (7.32, 4.30, 15.51 and 1.98 in FP, FK, FS and FB respectively) upon the knockdown of P450 gene with resistance level up to 178.5 folds in the LR (G6) by using dsRNA applications. The gene expression was further verified by checking the protein expression through western blotting. RNAi based silencing of CYP450 proved as a successful management tool against RPW.

حادثۂ وفات
ماہِ مارچ ۱۹۹۱ء میں ملّتِ اسلامیہ کواپنے دو۲عظیم رہنما عالمِ دین کے حادثۂ وفات سے دوچار ہونا پڑا۔
امیر شریعت بہار حضرت مولیٰنا منت اﷲ رحمانی اور میرٹھ شہر کے مشہور عالمِ دین، اسلامی مصنف حضرت مولیٰنا قاضی زین العابدین تھوڑے سے آگے پیچھے وقفہ میں انتقال فرماگئے۔اناﷲ وانا الیہ راجعون ۔
دونوں ہی ملّتِ اسلامیہ کی عظیم وبرگزیدہ ہستیاں تھیں۔حضرت مولیٰنا منت اﷲ رحمانیؒ نے ہندوستانی مسلمانوں کی مذہبی خدمت کرنے کے لیے اپنے مرحوم عالمِ دین والد مولیٰنا محمدعلی مونگیری سے ورثہ پایاتھا۔جس طرح مولیٰنا محمدعلی مونگیریؒ نے مسلمانانِ ہندکی تعلیم و تربیت کے لیے انتھک کوشش کی اور ندوۃ العلماء لکھنؤ کوجن لوگوں نے ایک تصور سے حقیقت بننے میں مدد دی ان میں مولیٰنا محمد علی مونگیریؒ کانام سر فہرست ہے۔مسلمانوں کی خدمت میں وہ جی جان سے لگے رہے جُٹے رہے۔اسی طرح ان کے لائق و ہونہار صاحبزادے اور بعد میں مِلّتِ اسلامیہ ہند کے غازی ومجاہد مولیٰنا منت اﷲ رحمانی نے مسلمانانِ ہند کی ہر طرح خدمت ورہنمائی کی۔مسلم پرسنل لاء بورڈ میں حضرت مولیٰنا مفتی عتیق الرحمان عثمانی ؒ کی رفاقت ورہنمائی میں بڑا اہم کردار نبھایا اور حضرت مفتی عتیق الرحمن عثمانیؒ کے انتقال کے بعد انہوں نے ان کے مشن کو ان کے بتائے ہوئے رہنما اصولوں کے تحت ہی آگے بڑھانے میں کوئی دقیقہ فروگزاشت نہیں کیا۔وہ دارالعلوم دیوبند کی مجلس شوریٰ کے بھی ممبر تھے۔مسلمانوں کی کئی فلاحی انجمنوں سے بھی ان کاربط وتعلق تھا۔
بقول معاصر ’’قومی آواز‘‘ مولیٰنا منت اﷲ رحمانیؒ کی وفات حضرت مولیٰنا مفتی عتیق الرحمان عثمانیؒ کی وفات کے بعد یہ دوسرا بہت بڑا صدمہ ہندوستان کے مسلمانوں کو پہنچا ہے اوراس کمی کو پورا کرنا آسان نہ ہوگا ۔۷۹؍ سال کی عمر پائی۔

ریاست قلات میں نظام قضاء کا تحقیقی جائزہ

In Islam the system of Judiciary halds an immense importance the judiciary after faith is counted as an important obligation amongst all other obligations and is eminent and virtous amongst all outs of worships. The virue of judiciary is mentioned at hundreds of places in the Quran and in the Ahadiths. The Progression of the system of judiciary has been hard from the begning of the prophet hood, during the Rashidun ealiphale and is promulgated till tody. Before the existence of Pakistan there were many states amongst which one was the state of Kalat. Where the Baloch Government was setup in 1530 Meer Ahmed Yar Khan was elected as the Khan of Kalat. Who at the very Beginning laid the foundation of the system of judiciary? The details about this would be discussed in the article ahead. The Government of Balochs was set up in Kalat the foundation of system of judiciary here was first of all laid by Mir Ahmed Yar Khan. First of all juges were appointed in every district.

Phytochemical Investigation on the Chemical Constituents of Caralluma Flava

The research work embodied in this thesis deals with the isolation of chemical constituents from the Omani plant named Caralluma flava (N.E.Br) Meve & Liede along with the spectral characterization, biological activities and computational studies. Crude crystals (CR) obtained from the squeezed sap of succulent C. flava showed significant anticancer activity against MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells and provided nine new pregnane glycosides namely Desmiflavaside A (1), Desmiflavaside B (2), Desmiflavaside C (3), Desmiflavaside D (4), Nizwaside (5), Desflavaside A (6), Desflavaside B (7), Desflavaside C (8) and Desflavaside D (9). The structures of these isolates were elucidated through spectral analysis using UV, IR, HRSEIMS, NMR and by comparing with literature reports. Treatment of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer and SKOV-3 ovarian cancer cells with compounds 3-5 demonstrated a prominent reduction in the viability of both types of cancer cells. Furthermore, 3-5 were also tested for their effect on normal breast epithelial cells (MCF-10-2A) which displayed no significant cytotoxicity on normal cells. The molecular docking studies of 3-5 revealed that these molecules have a good potential to bind with the target protein tyrosine phosphatase. The methanolic extract (ME) of squeezed residual plant and its different fractions also showed good anticancer activity against MDA-MB-231 cells. Different fractions of ME, CR and compounds (1-5) were additionally evaluated for enzyme inhibition (urease, acetylcholinesterase and α-glucosidase) and DPPH antioxidant activities which displayed no remarkable results. The research work embodied in this dissertation has resulted four publications as mentioned in the end of the thesis.
