The present research was carried out to record and report the ecological, taxonomical, anatomical and ethno botanical properties of 36 wild medicinal xeric plants of district Bannu. In the present research we evaluate the biological activities of few selected xeric plants. i.e. Calligonum polygonoides (L.), Rosa brunonii, Pegnum harmala (L.) and Sueda fruticosa. The present investigation comprises of nature (habit), soil type and atmospheric conditions in which the plant grow (habitat); adaptation which may be physical, physiological or anatomical, particularly stem anatomy. We reported taxonomical characters for identification and local uses of 36 plants species which belonging to 22 families of angiosperm. Based upon their utility all the studied plants are wild medicinal xerophytes maintain balancing in ecosystem and also protect the xeric environment from erosion, desertification and provide natural habitat to wild fauna. The anatomical study of all the mentioned plants was undertaken in herbarium of Botany University of Science and Technology Bannu and herbarium of Quid-eAzam University Islamabad. It was investigated that all the mentioned species of xerophytes have well developed cuticle, epidermis, trichomes, more number of simple tissue (parenchyma, collenchyma and sclernchyma cells), cortex and vascular bundles in stem systems which clarified their adaptation in the severe drought conditions i.e. xeric area of district Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Ethno botanical study shows that all of the mentioned plants were used as a fuel. Beside these, eleven species used as fodder for cattle and eight species found useful as timber. Similarly, some species have edible fruit such as Zizyphus mauratiana (L.), Acacia modesta (L.) wild, Salvador oleoides (L.), six xeric plants were found as honey bee species, eight species were found useful for agricultural tools and six species were found to be cultivated. The most important families having medicinal values were Amaranthaceae having three plant, Apocynaceae having one plant, Asclepiadaceae have two plants, Capparidaceae having one plant, Chenopodiaceae having two plants, Cucurbitaceae having one plant, Cuscutaceae has one plant, Elaeagnaceae has one plant, while Euphorbiaceae have two plants, Mimosaceae have four plants, Papilionaceae have one plant, Polygonaceae having one plant, Rhamnaceae have two plants, Rosaceae having 2 Plants, Salvadoraceae having one plant, Solanaceae having 3 plants, Tamaricaceae having one plant while Verbenaceae has one plant and Zygophyllaceae has also one plant. The most common wild medicinal plants in district Bannu were Calotropis procera, Solanum surratense, Ricinus communis (L.) Nerium odorum, Vitex negundo. Some plants have wild fruit such as Capparis decidua, Salvadora oleoides. Famous fodder species of the area were Acacia modesta, Acacia nilotica (L.) and Zizyphus nummularia (L.). Few wild medicinal plants have best biological activities such as Calligonum polygonoides, Rosa brunonii, Pegnum harmala and Sueda fruticosa. All of the selected plants have phytotoxic activities while the antibacterial activities were high in the first three plants, the Sueda fruticosa which is a halophyte have less antibacterial activities, similarly antifungal activities were strong in Calligonum polygonoides, Rosa brunonii and Pegnum harmala but poor in Sueda fruticosa, the cytotoxic activities were found strong in Calligonum polygonoides, Rosa brunonii but moderate in Pegnum harmala and poor in Sueda fruticosa. It can be concluded that, xerophytes convert the desert into cultivated land; xeric plants have best biological activities as compare to other plant groups. It is suggested that vulnerable and over-exploited medicinal plants may be conserved for sustainable use and to protect environment.

Worldly Portent of Face Uncovering and Women’s Dilapidation: A Comparative Study in Context With Quranic Injunctions

Assyrian Text is witnessed that women used veil for face covering with an additional piece of cloth about 13 centuries before the Christ. Then history of mankind displays veil in Egyptian society that was transparent and normally white in color. We found a handful evidences in Greek literature regarding veiling of face. History travels to Anglo-Saxon age and witnessed that women used veil to cover their hair of head. The head covering shows a biological reasoning also. Roman culture was the culture of fantasy, the veils were full of colorful, and multi designed veil arranged by flowers and different beautiful substantial. In Roman, veil developed from only head covering to shoulder covering and then from head to back covering. British regime also enrich the history of veil. There was beautiful designed, decorated with net clothes and covered with beautiful embroidery. The veil was empowered by elite community in England. Later it was popularized as a fashion in colonial communities. Through this thorough historic discussion, it is approved that veil used by women has a long history as the human history. In religious context, Hinduism is understood as the oldest religion on globe, it is found that in Harappan times about 2500 BC, Aryan women used to wear full body covering single cloth from head covering to foot, which was preached in Hindu religious book Vedas also, later the single cloth was known as Sari. And after the introduction of Christianity, Veil was introduced as a compulsory symbol of religion. Veil of whole body with strict rules can be seen in the form of Christian nun. Later, Islam explained veil of women in public as an obligatory sign. Islam is the youngest religion on earth, it was published rapidly and the implication of its rules are practiced prominently. After a thorough historic and religious discussion, it if proved in this article that veil was a compulsory part of human society and religions before Islam had also preached for veiling.  

Morphological and Molecular Characterization of Indigenous Goat Breeds of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan.

Goat population is increasing at a faster rate (4%) than other co-existing livestock species in Pakistan. Four indigenous goat breeds of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan i.e. Gaddi, Damani, Kaghani and Surgoli were sampled from their home tracts for morphological and molecular characterization. A total of 120 samples (30 of each breed) were studied. Gaddi was of largest size manifested by large body length, chest girth, ear blade width, head length, heights and horn length and was the heaviest in weight compared to other breeds. Both Kaghani and Gaddi breeds have long and glossy hair with coat color of white, black or grey. Surgoli and Damani have medium hair, white, red, black or brown in colour. Most Kaghani and Gaddi have beards, less common in Surgoli and Damani. No wattle was observed in Kaghani or Gaddi breeds but present in Damani and Surgoli. All the four breeds have horns and no polled individual was seen. Morphologically Damani has screwed 56.7% and Gaddi have curved horns 66.7% while Kaghani and Damani have 83.3% and 43.3% spiral horns respectively. Gaddi and Kaghani showed better performance as compared to Damani and Surgoli especially in terms of milk and meat production. Total of 30 SSR markers were used of which 24 were amplified. In total 130 alleles were detected. Surgoli was the most diverse breed and the least was Gaddi. Mean number of alleles, effective number of alleles and unique alleles were 5.42, 3.89 and 11 respectively. Average genetic diversity was 0.689, the highest in Surgoli i.e. 0.7228.F indics (FIT), (FST) and FIS were calculated as 0.706, 0.075 and 0.670 respectively. All pair wise estimate of population differentiation was significant P<0.05. Mean Nm (gene flow) value was 2.92 migrants per generation. Average observed and expected heterozygosity was 0.219 and 0.727 respectively. PIC of 0.585 showed that most markers are highly polymorphic. Allelic richness ranged from 4.00 to 4.71. The Bottle neck analysis showed that Gaddi, Damani and Surgoli were in a state of mutation drift equilibrium while Kaghani deviated from mutation drift equilibrium. This instability of the population is an evidence of genetic bottleneck. Phenotypic and molecular characterization of animals is much needed for conservation and designing improvement strategy for these genetic resources of a country.
