Antinematicidal resistance has been arising among the gastrointestinal nematodes, primarily Haemonchus (H.) contortus in small ruminants to the commercialized broad- spectrum synthetic chemotherapeutics in Pakistan and other countries of the world. Therefore, the current study, which was carried out on the Karakul breed of sheep in Angora Goat Farm - Rakh Khairewala, Layyah District (Pakistan) , began with the intention of finding out the rampancy of resistance among H. contortus populations in addition to assessing some native medicinal plant extracts for their potency to control the resistant parasite. The experimental animals were allocated to 16 groups (n=15) followed by the demonstration of haemonchosis percentage (˃90%) among other nematodiasis. Three groups were allotted for detection of resistance towards oxfendazole (OXF), levamisole (LEV) HCL and ivermectin (IVM) plus one group for control. The faecal egg count reduction test (FECRT) revealed prevalence of resistance to the above drugs with varying levels. Pursuant to the RESO Computer Programme, the calculated FECR% was -56, 75 and78, whilst the lower confidence interval was -311, 38 and 42 for OXF, LEV and IVM, respectively. The LC50 value for oxfendazole, estimated via probit analysis, was 1.86 μg ml‫ 1 ־‬after performing egg hatch assay (EHA). For studies on phytotherapeutics, 12 groups (n=15) were allotted. However, the same control group was used because, statistically, all the groups are located within the same population. The calculated FECR% for effective crude aqueous-methanol extracts of the tested plants was 94.59, 88.6, 87.5, 85.81 and 85.14 for combined Nicotiana (N.) tabacum leaves and Azadirachta (A.) indica seed kernels, high dose of N. tabacum, low dose of N. tabacum, high dose of combined N. tabacum and Vernonia (V.) anthelmintica seeds, and A. indica, respectively. LC50 values, determined through probit analysis after conducting EHA, were 0.523, 0.566, 1.169, 1.217, 3.138, and 5.95 μg ml‫ 1 ־‬for combined N. tabacum and A. indica, N. tabacum, A. indica, combined N. tabacum and V. anthelmintica, combined V. anthelmintica and A. indica, and V. anthelmintica respectively. The adult motility test revealed high adulticidal potency of solitary N. tabacum and combined N. tabacum and A. indica which killed 100% of worms after six hours of exposure at the concentration of 25 mg ml‫ ,1 ־‬whilst the others were less effective. No synergy, additive effect and antagonism were observed.

صدرِذی وقار!
زندگی جہاں بھی ہو حرکت کی علامت ہے۔ حرکت ہے تو زندگی ہے، حیات ہے، زیست ہے، زندگی کی اپنی برکات ہوتی ہیں، جن کی اپنی رعنائیاں ہوتی ہیں، زندگی کے اپنے نشیب و فراز ہوتے ہیں، زندگی کا تصور ہی دلفریب مناظر کا داعی ہوتا ہے۔
جنابِ صدر!
گل ٔپژ مردہ باعث نفرین ہوتا ہے، عروق مردہ کو حیات ِنو بخشنے کے لیے کافی تگ و دو کی ضرورت ہوتی ہے، مفلوج زدہ عضو کی بحالی کے لیے نظر یں کسی مسیحا کی متلاشی ہوتی ہیں، خزاں رسیدہ شجر پر بہار کی آمد نوید مسرت سے کم نہیں ہوتی۔
جنابِ صدر!
زندگی رات کی تنہائیوں میں آئے تو بدر کامل کا احساس دلاتی ہے، زندگی فلک کی رفعتوں میں پہنچے تو آفتاب بن کر چمکتی ہے، زندگی بحرِ ظلمات میں غواّصی کرے تو نا خدا کا وجود بن جاتی ہے، زندگی اقوام میں اپنے وجود کا احساس دلائے تو اس گیتی کے ماتھے کا جھومر ثابت ہوتی ہے۔

اللہ کا شکر ہے کہ ہم زندہ قوم ہیں ، ہمارے افکار زندہ ہیں، ہمارے اطوار زندہ ہیں، ہماری سوچیںمثبت ہیں، ہمارے نوجوان حیات وزیست کا مجسمہ ہیں، ہمارے اسلاف کی نصائح زندگی کو تابندگی فراہم کرتی ہیں، ہمارے شعور علم وآگا ہی کانمونہ ثابت ہوتے ہیں۔
اس قوم کو شمشیر کی حاجت نہیں رہتی

Today, majority of the Muslims' lives have turned out to be colored with a similar shade of the western civilization in every sphere of life. We watch that the matter of imitation achieved its most exceedingly awful pinnacle. In this era of ecstasy, the imitation of infidels and penitence of the Sunnah is growing rapidly due to the fact that Muslims have made it their habit. A particular group considers it enlightenment and ideological freedom and feels ashamed to follow Islam and Sunnah. The main reason for this attitude is that Muslims are unaware of the disadvantages of the imitation of infidels. In this article, the nuisances and flaws of imitation have been discussed, so that the Muslims could know about its imperfections and follow the Qur’ān and Sunnah.

Solid Phase Extraction of Heavy Metals Using Low Cost Sorbents

The aim of present work is to investigate the sorption capacity of salvadora persica, activated carbon, chitosan and chemically modified chitosan for heavy metals from dilute solutions. Salvadora persica was converted into powdered form and characterized by using Infrared spectroscopy. It has various organic compounds and these compounds contain sulphur, oxygen and nitrogen in their skeletons and behave superbly as coordinating ligands for cations present in the aqueous solution and hence causing effective sorption. Activated carbon was also prepared from salvadora persica under vacuum at 673 K with different soacking time. The prepared activated carbons were characterized using Surface Area Analyzer. Percentage yield of the prepared activated carbons in different heating times prior to washing was different. The activated carbon yields obtained at 673 K were 54.78 %, 52.27 % and 50.31 % at 30, 45 and 60 min heating time, respectively. The yield of activated carbons decreased as the heating duration increased. Surface area decreased from 375 to 27 m2/g. 4-Acryloylmopholine was reacted with chitosan to alter it chemically .The aim of treatement was to enhance binding sites for heavy metals ions. The amended chitosan holds different binding sites (chelating centers) in the form of oxygen and nitrogen. Different techniques were applied to illustrate the amended chitosan. Activated carbons, powdered salvadora persica, chitosan and the chemically modified chitosan were used as sorbents for different cations (Cu 2+, Cd 2+, Pb 2+ and Ni 2+ ). Among these cations copper showed highest sorption ability as compared to other and the sorption properties were in agreement with that of the Langmuir model. The activated carbon prepared at 30 min heating time, showed maximum sorption capacities for cations due to its larger surface area. The Freundlich, Langmuir and Temkin models (both linear and non linear methods) were used to assess the experimental statistics. For activated carbon and powdered salvadora persica, lower errors were shown by type one (I) of the Langmuir model as compared to Freundlich and Temkin models, so it is the appropriate model to explain the sorption phenomenon. Among the linear forms of the Langmuir isotherms, low error values were given by type four (IV) than other linear forms of Langmuir and the Freundlich model but higher than that of Temkin model, which shows that Temkin model fits better to the experimental data of chemically modified chitosan.
