In the last few decades Information Technology (IT) has grown manifolds in Pakistan. The dynamic organizations are continuously replacing their legacy systems with the contemporary information systems (IS). Particularly, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are now becoming an integral part of the organizations to automate business processes. This thesis empirically investigated: (1) the success of ERP system at individual, process and organizational levels and (2) explored different contextual factors relating to organization, technology, individual and environment that affect the level of ERP system success in corporate sector of Pakistan. For examining ERP system success, the study applied DeLone and McLean (1992, 2003) (D&M) ‘Theory of IS Success’. The five dimensions mentioned in the theory and an additional dimension was incorporated in the proposed ERP system success measurement model i.e., ERP system quality, ERP information quality, ERP service quality, individual performance, organizational performance and process performance (added to the model). The present study applied two phased ‘explanatory sequential’ mixed methods research design. In the first phase of research 514 Pakistani organizations were surveyed through structured questionnaires to investigate ERP system success. SmartPLS 3 Software was used and Partial Least Square – Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) technique was applied for testing the study hypotheses and assessing convergent validity, discriminant validity and internal reliability of the constructs. The results from the first phase indicated that ERP system quality, information quality and service quality positively influence individual performance. Similarly, individual performance has also positive and significant relation with process performance and xix organization performance. The results also revealed that process performance has positive and significant impact on organizational performance in Pakistani organizations. Based on the findings from the first phase, qualitative research strategy was applied in the second phase of research to explore different contextual factors that affect the level of ERP system success in corporate sector of Pakistan. The qualitative data was collected through in-depth video recorded interviews of 48 ERP key users in four different organizations. NVivo 10 software was used for transcribing, coding and identifying different themes of the study. Word Tree, Word Tag Clouds and Tree Maps techniques were applied to identify frequency of data coding, talk pattern and significance of each contextual factor. Finally, the qualitative phase of research explored that rewards and incentives, training, leadership, management control, technological resources, up-gradation of technology, skills, knowledge, provision of electricity and stakeholders’ pressure are more critical factors that influence the level of ERP system success in Pakistani organizations. Thus, these findings suggest that organizations can enhance the level of ERP system success by controlling these contextual factors. Lastly, the both quantitative and qualitative results were discussed and different theoretical and practical implications were provided. The findings of the study will serve as changing driver of attention of the practitioners from the issues of pre-implementation or implementation stages to the issues of post-implementation stage of ERP system. Based on different results and discussions, practitioners will pay more attention to sustain the success of ERP system in their organizations.

Relationship Between Selected Variables of Parental Stress During Early Childhood Education

Parental stress is as experience of parents not only because of child-care, but also due to their community and environmental conditions, duties and everyday life. Research focused on investigation of stress among parents related to their children at early-childhood education and to explore the relationship between child’s behavior, parents’ expectations, family relationship, socio-economic status, social support, parental satisfaction and child’s responsibilities. All the parents of the students studying ECE at private schools in the areas of Rawalpindi constituted as the population of this research study. The target population consisted of all the parents of students from 10 randomly selected private schools of Rawalpindi. During scheduled parent-teachers meeting, the parents’ voluntary participation was demanded. Based upon their consent 145 parents of children from 10 private schools at Rawalpindi were available for the sample of study through purposive sampling. A self-developed questionnaire containing items related to seven aspects of parental stress was developed on five-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed with the help of descriptive mean, SD, and Pearson r. The current study shows that highest levels of stress among parents of these children. The economic disadvantage is also a leading cause for parental stress and minor social support tended to report extra parental stress. The results of the study highlighted the understanding of parents’ stress in ECE.

Stability and Quality of Fish Lipids

Globally fish consumption is increasing due to increase in awareness of its health benefits. Fish is a rich source of protein, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and fats. Among other fatty acids (including Long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids) omega-3 fatty acids, especially eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are beneficial for the human health. This thesis investigated the differences in the chemical composition of five economically important and most consumed fish species in Pakistan, namely Mahseer (Tor putitora), Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), Thela fish (Catla catla) and Common carp (Cyprinus carpio). These species were evaluated for heavy metals accumulation, chemical composition, fatty acids composition, storage stability of their oils under room temperature and high shier conditions after gamma irradiation. Further, fatty acids composition of commercially available fish oil supplements and their oxidative stability was also evaluated to compare with their fatty acids profile to the aforementioned fish oils. There was a significant difference for most chemical components and fatty acids (P < 0.05) in the analyzed fish species. The highest polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) content was obtained from the Rainbow trout (24.63%), followed by Thela fish (22.52%), Common carp (19.52%), Mahseer (16.25%), whereas the lowest value was found in the Silver carp (15.20%). Similarly, a significant difference in metals content of all fish species was observed. Interestingly, heavy .metals concentration was much higher in fish liver and skin than that estimated in gills and muscles tissues. Furthermore, effects of irradiation on the storage stability of various crude fish oils extracted from selected fish species were tested for physicochemical constants, i.e., peroxide value (POV), free fatty acid value (FFA), anisidine value (AV), iodine value (IV), color and β-Carotene. Among the fish oils examined Common carp followed by Rainbow trout oils showed the greatest stability against oxidation. Additionally, fish oil capsules were evaluated for fatty acids profile to understand what is consumed to fulfill nutritional requirement regarding fish oil viii supplementation study about quality evaluation demonstrates that the tested samples of fish oil capsules show large variation of long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and contain fewer amounts as claimed on the labels of the products contains considerably oxidized and has cost as well as health implications for the consumers. The results presented in this thesis will be beneficial for the nutritionists, physicians, consumers and researchers who are motivated to improve the nutritive value, processing and marketing of selected fish species and fish oil supplements.
