A field study was carried out to evaluate the application of DSSAT model for simulating the impact of planting densities and nitrogen rates on growth, yield and quality of sunflower hybrids. The experimental data needed to run the model was obtained from two years (2010 and 2011) field experiments at two locations, including the Agronomic Research Area, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and Research Area of University College of Agriculture, University of Sargodha. The achene yield among various treatments (hybrids, planting densities and nitrogen rates) was associated with growth and development of crop or to their photosynthetic activity. At both the experimental locations, the nitrogen rate 150 kg ha-1 and planting density 83, 333 plants ha-1 (20cm plant spacing) gave higher yield as compared to standard 125 kg N ha-1 and 66,666 plants ha-1 (25cm plant spacing), respectively. Similarly, S-278 performed well, in term of achene yield and achene oil contents at both locations than Hysun-33 sunflower hybrids. The DSSAT (OILCROP-SUN) model testing and application in this study established that this specific model could be satisfactorily used as a research tool at different locations of Punjab-Pakistan. The DSSAT (OILCROP-SUN) model was calibrated and evaluated under local conditions and it predicted phenology, growth and yield of sunflower crop to a reasonable accuracy for different sunflower hybrids at varying planting densities and nitrogen application. The findings propose that the model can be used to direct the alternate path for improving sunflower production in different agro-environmental conditions of the Punjab, Pakistan. At the end, following suggestions must be under taken to meet the future challenges. Simulation of other crop nutrients (P&K), irrigation scheduling and cropping system research should also be focussed in modeling studies. Inter comparison of different models should be carried out to simulate the growth and yield of sunflower under semiarid environment of Pakistan. Optimization of site specific production technology for different crops using crop growth models should be tested and promoted. Future studies for possible impact of climate change on new hybrids of sunflower and other crops production should be included at more number of weather stations to better reflect the heterogeneity in different cropping regions.

PEMBINAAN SEX EDUCATION DALAM MENGHADAPI PENYIMPANGAN SEKSUAL KAUM NABI LUTH ZAMAN NOW

Indonesia mengalami degradasi karakter yang ditandai dengan maraknya penyimpangan moral, baik sosial maupun agama. Penyimpangan tersebut jauh dari nilai-nilai keislaman namun ramai digandrungi generasi muda seperti budaya pacaran, seks bebas hingga homoseksual. Kasus aborsi di Indonesia terjadi sekitar 2, 5 juta jiwa setiap tahunnya yang 30% diantaranya adalah remaja. Selain itu hasil survei lembaga independen menyebutkan 3% atau sederhananya 3 dari 100 penduduk Indonesia adalah pelaku homoseksual. Fenomena tersebut tidak lain disebabkan karena adanya dorongan perkembangan media dalam memfasilitasi free sex dengan tawaran akses yang semakin lengkap dan jauh meninggalkan nilai agama dan moral. Oleh sebab itu, pendidikan seks diharapkan menjadi jalan tengah yang perlu digalakkan dengan keyakinan bahwa pendidikan ini mampu membentengi dan mengarahkan mereka kepada pemahaman seks yang baik dalam pandangan agama maupun negara. Maka tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana materi dalam melakukan pembinaan pendidikan seks menurut pandangan Islam. Desain penelitian menggunakan analisis konten dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil studi ini menunjukkan bahwa sex education masih tabu dan kental akan pro dan kontra, namun substansi perdebatan tersebut hanya berputar pada materi dalam pendidikan seks. Oleh kebab itu, pembinaan sex education hendaknya melibatkan orang tua dan pendidik yang disertai dengan pengawasan berdasarkan Al-Quran dan As-Sunnah, yakni memberikan pemahaman terkait fitrah manusia, sopan dan memahami waktu yang tidak diperkenankan berkunjung, menahan diri dan menjaga pandangan, dan menjauhi zina.

Optimizing Nitrogen in Maize Zea Mays L. Through Poultry Manure under Drought Conditions

Water and nitrogen (N) are important limiting inputs of maize (Zea mays L.) production in semi-arid environment. Application of poultry manure in agriculture fields is potentially beneficial to agro-ecosystems, but challenging due to its excessive moisture, bad odor, transportation, inconsistent nutrient contents and phytotoxic substances, which may adversely affect the health of those who handle it. Composting as one of the agricultural best management practices (BMP) could overcome the above issues. To study the effects of nitrogen availability from poultry manure under different irrigation regimes in semiarid environment, two experiments were conducted in 2009 at the Agronomic Research Farm, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan in glass house. In first experiment maize hybrid were screened against their drought tolerance potential. In second experiment, composted and non-composted poultry manures were compared for N-availability to maize hybrids under different moisture regimes. Field experiment was carried out in 2010 and repeated in 2011 at the Agronomic Research Farm, University of Agriculture Faisalabad. One drought tolerant and one sensitive maize hybrid (H 1 = Monsanto-919 and H 2 = FH-810, respectively) were sown with three composted poultry manure (CPM) levels (L 1 = control with recommended NPK, L 2 = 8, L 3 = 10 and L 4 = 12 t ha -1 CPM) under three irrigation regimes (I 1 = 300, I 2 = 450 and I 3 = 600 mm). Statistical analysis of results revealed that H 1 showed maximum grain yield during both years (7.69 and 7.98 t ha -1 during 2010 and 2011, respectively) at I 3 with the application of recommended NPK. While the grain yield of H 1 during both years was greater with CPM than H 2 with the application of recommended NPK under I 2 . Grain oil and protein contents were almost statistically at par in both maize hybrids fertilized with L 1 and L 4 under I 1 condition. The nitrogen uptake was similar in both hybrids under controlled condition. Moreover, water use efficiency (WUE) was significantly enhanced with the application of CPM among different levels of CPM. The highest net benefit ($1788 ha -1 ) was achieved by recommended NPK treatment contrary highest marginal rate of return (35 %) was obtained by application of 600 mm irrigation water with 12 t CPM ha -1 .
