Six wheat cultivars/lines viz; Baviacore, Nesser, 9247, 9252, 9258 and 9267 were crossed following complete diallel technique. The seed of F 1 crosses and parents was planted in the experimental area of Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Planting was done under normal and water stress conditions following randomized complete block design with three replications in both of the cases. The data was recorded on ten guarded plants tagged for the purpose for each parent and cross in each replication under both of the conditions. The traits like plant height, peduncle length, specific flag leaf area, specific flag leaf weight, stomatal frequency (upper flag leaf surface), size of stomata, days to heading, number of spikes per plant, spike density, number of grains per spike, 100-grain weight, biological yield, grain yield and harvest index were recorded on tagged plants in each replication. The recorded data were subjected to the analysis of variance technique to determine the genotypic differences for the traits which were exhibited highly significant under both of the water availability conditions. Combining ability and gene action analysis was carried out for all of the parameters studies. Significant change in the mean performance of all the characters was observed under the water stress condition. Additive gene action was obtained in the characters like plant height, peduncle length, stomatal frequency, size of stomata, days to heading, spike density, and 100-grain weight when evaluation was made using Griffing’s approach while the characters like plant height, peduncle length, stomatal frequency, size of stomata, days to heading, spike density, 100-grain weight, biological yield and grain yield was observed when calculations were done using Hayman’s approach under irrigated condition. Non-additive gene action was exhibited in the characters like specific flag leaf area, specific flag leaf weight, number of spikes per plant, number of grains per spike, biological yield, grain yield and harvest index through the use of Griffing’s approach and over dominance in the characters like specific flag leaf area, specific flag leaf weight, number of spikes per plant and harvest index when Hayman’s approach was used for calculations under irrigated condition. The results under water stress conditions revealed that gene action exhibited in the characters like peduncle length, stomatal frequency, size of stomata, days to heading, spike density and 100-grain weight was additive when Griffing’s approach for analysis was adopted while using the 1analysis though Hayman’s approach, additive gene action was shown by the characters like peduncle length, stomatal frequency, size of stomata, days to heading, spike density, biological yield and grain yield. The characters like plant height, specific flag leaf area, specific flag leaf weight, number of spikes per plant, number of grains per spike, biological yield, grain yield and harvest index gave non-additive gene action in Griffing’s approach and plant height, specific flag leaf area, specific flag leaf weight, number of spikes per plant, 100-grain weight and harvest exhibited over dominance in Hayman’s approach under water stress conditions. Similar gene action was shown by both calculations i.e. Griffing’s as well as Hayman’s approach for most of the characters under irrigated as well as water stress conditions except number of grains per spike, biological and grain yield under irrigated and biological and grain yield under water stress conditions. The difference of results might be due to the reason that means were used in calculation by the numerical approach while variances in graphical approach. Multi disciplinary approach involving plant breeding, genetics, biotechnology, physiology, soil and crop management for the development of water stress tolerant/ resistant genotypes in wheat, is suggested.

مارماڈیوک پکھتال انگریزی کے بلند پایہ انشاء پرداز انگریز تھے، مدت تک مصر اور ترکی میں رہے تھے اور وہیں اسلام کے تاثرات نے ان کے دل میں گھر کیا تھا اور اسلام کے سچے پیرو ہوگئے تھے، ۱۹۲۰؁ء میں لندن میں ان سے جمعہ کی نماز میں اسلامی جماعت خانہ میں ملاقات ہوا کرتی تھی، وہ بالکل مسلمانوں کی طرح نماز پڑھا کرتے تھے، جماعت خانہ میں ان کی ترکی ٹوپی نماز کے لئے رکھی رہتی تھی، جس کو وہ نماز کے وقت پہن لیتے تھے، لارڈ کرومر کے زمانہ میں مصر میں تھے۔
ترکی اور رواں عربی زبان بولتے تھے اور جانتے تھے، ترکوں کی ہمدردی میں طرابلس کے زمانہ میں کچھ رسائل لکھے تھے، لندن میں ان سے گھنٹوں باتیں ہوا کرتی تھیں، اس کے بعد ہی وہ بمبئی کرانیکل کے ایڈیٹر ہوکر آگئے، چنانچہ وہاں بھی ان سے ملاقات ہوئی، پھر وہ حیدرآباد دکن چادر گھاٹ ہائی اسکول کے ہیڈماسٹر اور وہاں کی سول سروس کے اتالیق ہوگئے تھے، اس زمانہ میں جب حیدرآباد جانا ہوا، محبت سے مجھے اپنے یہاں بلاتے رہے، اسی زمانہ میں قرآن پاک کا ترجمہ شروع کیا، غالباً ۱۹۲۷؁ء میں مدراس میں جب ان سے ملاقات ہوئی تو اپنے انگریزی ترجمہ کا ذکر کیا، اور سورۂ مریم کا ترجمہ دیکھنے کو دیا، وہ کہتے تھے کہ مولوی محمد علی لاہوری کے غلط سلط ترجمہ کو انگریزوں کے ہاتھوں میں دے کر شرماتا ہوں اور جی چاہتا ہے کہ اس کا ایک آتشیں ترجمہ کروں جو دلوں کو گرما دے، چنانچہ حیدرآباد کی مالی امداد سے مصر جاکر اس ترجمہ کو پورا کیا اور چھپا اور یہ ان کا بڑا کارنامہ ہے، یہ وہ نومسلم انگریز تھے جو ایمان کے ساتھ عملاً نماز و روزہ کے پابند تھے، اﷲ تعالیٰ ان پر رحم و کرم فرمائے۔

Allama Ghulam Rasool Saeedi was a great Muslim scholar of Pakistan. He served the Muslim Ummah more than 79 years. He taught Quran & sunnah for more than five decades. He made his great research work on Quranic Tafaseer, Hadith literature and Islamic jurisprudence. One of his distinction is his work on difference of opinion with the scholar of past and present also. As we know difference of opinion is the basic component of human nature and instinct. Allama Saeedi worked on this difference in his work in honorable manners and ethics. He tried to minimize the sectarianism. This article aims to discuss the contribution of Allama saeedi in this regard.

Ijtihad has played a vital role to bring compatibility between society and Islamic law, its expansion, development, and changing needs of society.This Principle has provided solution to various political, social, economical and other problems during the times of The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his Pious Caliphs. Significance of ljtihad cannot be denied. Change and evolution are the basic to human life and problems and solutions all come with it. The existence of nations lies in their response to the emerging problems while stagnancy brings an end to them. Islam doesn't keep narrow view regarding human life, rather removes obstacles in its way to development. The Quran says, this day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you and have chosen for you Islama as your religion.(5:3) ljtihad is the alternate method in case if no clear instructions and guidance are mentioned in basic sources of Shariah, Quran, and Sunnah, to find solutions to the problems. It keeps the stream of life flowing, repels stagnancy and provides other ways to maintain evolution i.e. Qiyaas, Istedlal and lstihsan etc. All these are the indirect offshoots of ljtihad. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) himself, many times practiced ljtihad regarding matters rising in newly establiShed Islamic State & the Ummah. Many of his decisions were ratified and corrected by revelation to him as well. This research - work has been focused on the decisions and Judgments delivered by the Holy Prophet (SAW) and his Pious Caliphs on the basis of ljtihad. Moreover, I have tried to deduce and infer the principles for an Up-dated ljthad which is need of the hour for the Muslim Ummah in Particular. The practice of ljtihad continued since time of Mohammad (SAW) till date. In contemporary times the shape is different but the spirit is same either by an individual or by institutions in 20th century. It proves the flexibility and compatibility of Islamic laws with ever-changing world. It is the sphere which proves Islam as a religion for every caste, creed, and nation and for all the times.
