The mice of genus Mus are small-size mammals which belong to the family Muridae of the mammalian order Rodentia. Considerable efforts have been devoted to establish the phylogeny of the Mus genus. But it has been difficult to establish clear taxonomy of the Mus genus by traditional morphometric tools due to the existence of subtle morphological differences among different forms. Thus, 17 different systematics studies of Mus genus are in great conflict. Despite the fact that Pakistan encompasses an important part of range of many Mus species, mice populations in Pakistan have not been the subject of any genetic and biogeographic studies. So, there exist some serious ambiguities with respect to the occurrence of Mus spp. in Pakistan. Thus, present study was conducted to find out which species are actually present in the study area Pothwar. True taxonomic status was examined by using molecular markers of Cytochrome b and Mitochondrial control region. The genetic diversity depicted by Maximum likelihood phylogeny and Median joining network revealed three species i.e. Mus musculus, Mus terricolor and Mus cookii, three sub species of Mus musculus i.e. M. m. musculus, M. m. domesticus and M. m. castaneus and four sub lineages of M. m. castaneus. M. m. castaneus proved to be the most abundant and thus most important taxa identified from Pothwar region. M. m. castaneus population in Pothwar proved to be highly diverse on the basis of haplotype and nucleotide diversity indices. Neutrality tests were implemented to study the recent demographic history of each sub lineage. Tajima’s D test suggested recent population expansion in all lineages. The taxa identified by genetic analysis were subjected to morphometric analysis involving body and cranial measurements, description of pelage and characteristics of the molar teeth. Discriminant function analysis (DFA) of morphological, cranial and coat colour variables was executed to predict membership of each specimen to the respective species or lineage identified on the basis of molecular analysis. Resul ts of molecular and morphometric analysis were well concordant in the case of three Mus species as significant morphological segregation was evident at species level. While morphological segregation was not complete between sub-species of Mus musculus and among sub-lineages of M. m. castaneus as DFA showed 50- 70% morphological isolation between these sub-lineages identified by molocular 18 analyses. Chi-square test was applied to test the homogeneity of the distribution of Mus fauna. According to which no habitat wise segregation was evident for genetically identified Mus taxa. This study tried to provide validated information about the genetic identity of Mus fauna of Pothwar. As members of genus Mus are major agricultural pests, this study provides basic information about the distribution and species composition of Mus in Pakistan for developing effective and environment friendly management programs for inhibiting different Mus populations.

ملاوٹ کرپشن ہے سب کا مزاج
خدا جانے بدلے گا کب یہ سماج
صاحبِ صدر!
انٹی کرپشن یعنی انسداد بدعنوانی کے لفظ سے ہی یہ بات مترشحّ ہورہی ہے کہ بدعنوانی کو :
کوئی معاشرہ ، کوئی قوم، کوئی خاندان کسی لحاظ سے بھی مستحسن قرارنہیں دیتا، جس مضمون کا عنوان ہی غیر مناسب اور ناموزوں ہو اس میں موجود موادکبھی اچھے نتائج برآمد نہیں کرسکتا۔
کرپشن کے لفظ میں سینکڑوں برائیاں ، سینکڑوں نازیبا حرکات پنہاں ہیں ، کرپشن کا اژدہا معاشرے کے حسن کو اپنی بھیانک شکل سے شب بیماراں کرنے کے درپے ہے۔ کرپشن جس مقام پر بھی ہو تو اس کی شائستگی اور شیفتگی کا قلع قمع کر دیتی ہے۔
جنابِ صدر!
مجاہد سرحد پر کھڑ اتساہل اور غفلت کا شکار ہے تو وہ بھی کرپشن کر رہا ہے۔ مسیحااپنے فرائضِ منصبی بطریقِ احسن سرانجام نہیں دے رہا تو وہ بھی بدعنوانی اور کرپشن کا شکار ہے۔ اس کی لا پرواہی سے مریض لقمہ اجل بن رہے ہیں تو اس عظیم پیشہ سے وابستہ شخص گویا انتہائی درجے کابدعنوان اور کرپٹ ہے۔
معزز سامعین!
کر پشن اور بدعنوانی کے حامل شخص سے خلاصی انتہائی ناگزیر ہے۔ بدعنوانی کے خوفناک سالوں سے نکلنے کے لیے دیانتداری اور ایمان داری کی شمع کو منور کرنا ہوگا۔ اسلام کے گلشن سے گلہائے رنگارنگ کا نظارہ کرنا ہوگا، جرأت اور جوانمردی کے اسپ تازی کی شاہسواری کرنی ہوگی۔

To juxtapose various components in one issue or various issues, and to adopt various jurists’ points of views is called “Talfiq.” In the present radical age of science and technology, each and every social faculty is being radicalized particularly in finance; there are certain complications in the monetary systems of various countries. In this scenario, to concentrate on one school of thought and deduce the solution of these financial issues has now become impossible. That is why, Majlis-e-Shar’ii concentrate on “Talfiq between different school of thoughts”, where various parallel issues are solved. The Majlis has prepared a sharia standard where practicable and beneficial financial issues are elaborated. The jurists have elaborated various principles of “Bae-e-Salam”, and presented various relevant issues taking the insight from various scholars of Maliki, Hanafi, Shafi and Hambli schools of thoughts and focused on “Talfiq”. The present research paper the decrees related to Talfiq will be explored, where the jurists have adopted it. Whether it is allowed or prohibited. If it is allowed, to what extent?

Enquiry - Based Teaching: Heart of Critical Thinking

Critical thinking (CT) is one of the important dimensions and goals of education which is expected of the students. It has been studied and reported that due to traditional teaching strategies, students think in ‘black and white’ (Dean, 2007) and rote memorisation has become part of our education system (Aly, 2007). Critical thinking requires an environment where students are engaged in different challenging and thoughtful tasks. There are different strategies to engage students in activities like; discussion, debate, reading, problem solving and enquiry. To study how enquiry-based teaching facilitates students’ CT, an action research was conducted with Grade VIII science students in Ibn-e-Sina Government High School, Karachi, as part of my M.Ed. course at AKU-IED. There were 32 students in the class and 26 of them willingly participated in this study. Pre and post interviews of five of the participants, one class observation and six teachings were the data collection steps of this study. The data revealed that the existing teaching practises in that class were more teacher-oriented which hindered students’ critical thinking. However, the data at the intervention stage indicates that enquiry facilitates CT of students by developing their skills of data collection and data evaluation, argumentation and questioning, and also shifting their attitude from teacher dependency to self-learning. It is important to provide students with opportunities to learn by experiencing and sharing their ideas fearlessly. This study data informs that enquiry enhances students’ autonomy to learn from each other and on their own. There is an intense need to shift the teaching and learning process from teacher centredness to learner centredness to make them critical thinkers, and enquiry is one of the most effective teaching and learning processes which ensures learners’ centrality. However, teachers’ CT and pedagogical skills are indispensable to implement enquiry-based teaching in real and large classrooms.
