Surfactants have received significant attention in the last decades due to their tremendous industrial and medicinal applications. The addition of small quantity of polymer or electrolytes further enhances their potentials as their surface properties can be easily manipulated. Therefore, our objective was to investigate the surface behavior of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant and its interactions with Poly(ethyleneoxide) (PEO) having different molecular mass in the absent and presence of electrolytes. The surfactant was characterized by using various available techniques like surface tension, light scattering, viscosity and conductance measurement. Its CMC was obtained as 1mM which was reproducible and consistent. The aggregation behavior of three samples of poly (ethylene oxide) having 6, 12, 35 Kg/mol molecular mass was investigated using surface tension measurement and a relationship between molecular mass and surface tension was established. It was concluded that the characteristic concentration (CC) and critical aggregation concentrations (CAC) of PEO was decreased as the molecular mass of polymer was increased. The intrinsic viscosity, hydrodynamic radius, RH, and molecular mass relationship was also established. The impact of poly (ethylene oxide) over the micellization process of surfactant (CTAB) was explored, using the above stated techniques. It was concluded that the CMC of CTAB was increased by the addition of polymer. The three interaction ranges of the polymer PEO and surfactant CTAB were identified at surface tension plot with respect to CTAB concentration. It was observed that these points / ranges are polymer concentration dependent. The temperature effect over these interactions and micellization behavior of CTAB was also highlighted. It was also noted that the value of CMC, ΔH and flow activation energy of the PEO/CTAB system were smaller than for the mixture. It was noted that more the polymer added high the values of these parameters were. The value of CMC of CTAB was reduced with the increase in temperature. The RH and Rg/RH values obtained by light scattering also indicated such type of behavior. The CMC values were also obtained by viscosity and conductivity measurement. The results and conclusions drawn through all the techniques were consistent. New techniques have also been introduced to interpret the data obtained by surface tension, viscosity and conductance measurement and to get information about the point of interaction and saturation point of polymer with surfactant that were noted to be very useful and informative. Effect of electrolytes (LiCl, NaCl, KCl) and temperature over the micellization behavior of CTAB and its mixtures with polymer has also been discussed. It is concluded that the presence of electrolyte reduces hydrophilicity of CTAB, favoring micellization at relatively low concentration than in water at ambient temperature. The critical micelle concentration showed a marked decrease in the presence of electrolytes. This decrease in CMC in the presence of electrolytes was in the order of K+> Na+> Li+ and was explained on the basis of specific absorption of electrolytes, change in the structure of micelle, ionic strength and hence variation in the free energy of micellization. It was also concluded that CMC decreases with the increase in temperature of the system and was explained in term of solubility of surfactant, change in shape of micelle and free energy of the system with the temperature. Over all the study was found to be very useful to understand the surfactants and polymers interactions at molecular level in the absence or presence of electrolytes.

Islamization under General Zia Al-Haq (1977-1988) : An Analysis

As a result of the political crisis in Pakistan, the Martial Law regime of General Zia Al-Haq came into power on July 5, 1977. The process of Islamization was given a new boost during the period of Zia Al-Haq 1977- 1988. He launched a comprehensive scheme to eradicate non-Islamic practices in Pakistani state and society. His Islamization program contemplated significant reforms in the legal-constitutional, socioeconomic and educational institutions of Pakistan. The principles of Zakāt -‘Ushr ordinance, Islamic Ḥudūd and Penal code were introduced in the country. To Islamizing the economy Ribā abandoning and Profit and Loss sharing accounts in banks were initiated. Besides, he renamed parliament as Majlis Al-Shūrā; the Federal Sharī‘at Court, Sharī‘at Appellate Benches and Sharī‘ah Council were established in the country. Under the umbrella of Nizām-e-Muṣṭafā, social reforms were introduced, through the stressing of sanctity of the Holy month of Ramaḍān, enforcement of the bans on gambling and encouragement of chadar for women. Un-Islamic programs were banned on television and radio and news in Arabic was made compulsory. The stated objectives of President Zia’s Islamization policies were to lead Pakistan in the direction of truly Islamic state. However, the critics of his polices considered it a tool for legitimizing and enhancing his political powers in the country.

Best Proximity Point Results in Fuzzy Metric Spaces

The aim of this research is to investigate some contractions and establish the existence results of single and multivalued mappings in frame work of some abstract space. Banach (1922) presented a fixed point theorem, namely Banach contraction theorem, which states that, a contraction mapping has a unique fixed point in a complete metric space. This theorem is widely applicable in proving the existence of solutions of functional equations under certain conditions. This theorem is based upon the iterative process, so it can be easily implemented on computer. This theorem was a revolution in fixed point theory. Later on , several generalizations of this theorem have been obtained. Fixed point results are widely studied in the framework of topological, metric and ordered oriented spaces. It is interesting to study that a nonlinear functional equation T(x) = x (where T is some linear or nonlinear operator defined on metric or fuzzy metric space) has either a solution or possess no solution. If the nonlinear functional equation has any solution, then it is interesting to find some algorithms which lead to an appropriate solution, but if nonlinear functional equation has no solution, then to try and find some approximate solution. The approximation, optimization and fixed point theory incorporate the main theme of nonlinear analysis. The best approximation theory is applicable in variety of problems arising in nonlinear functional analysis. Banach (1922) fixed point theorem is vastly applicable in proving the existence of solutions of functional equations under certain conditions. Many authors generalized Banach contraction principle in various directions. To address the question, if a nonlinear functional equation has no solution, it is recommended to approximate the solution which solves the optimization problem such that d(x, T x) is minimum. Ky Fan’s (Fan (1969)) best approximation result has been used when some nonlinear functional equations have no solution. In this thesis, best proximity point results in non-Archimedean fuzzy metric space are proved and some optimal best proximity point results are also obtained. These results provides the existence of optimal approximate solutions to some equations which have no solution. Further, fuzzy optimal coincidence point results for different proximal contractions in the framework of complete non-Archimedean fuzzy metric space are obtained. These results also holds in fuzzy metric spaces when some mild assumptions are added in the domain of involved mappings. In the next part of thesis, best proximity point results in a complete non-Archimedean fuzzy metric space with ordered structure have been discussed. Further, a class of multivalued mappings is introduced which satisfies Suzuki type generalized contractive condition in the framework of fuzzy metric spaces and some fixed point results are obtained for such kind of mappings. In next part of this thesis, Suzuki type contraction conditions are further generalized as Suzuki type F−contraction fuzzy mapping in ordered metric spaces. As an application, a common fixed point result for hybrid pair of single and multivalued mappings, the existence and uniqueness of common bounded solution of functional equations arising in dynamic programming are obtained. The obtained results generalize and extend various results in the existing literature. In each chapter, some examples are provided, which shows the validity of the results along with couple of remarks about the comparison of obtained results with the existing ones in the literature.
