In this thesis, the Pakistan‟s first ever magneto optical trap has been designed, developed and studied with cesium atoms in a vapor cell. Keeping the density of background cesium atoms fixed, the trap performance depends upon the magneto-optical operating parameters, i.e. the intensity and detuning of the trap laser and the gradient ⃗⃗ of the quadrupole magnetic field, since these parameters determine the radiative force ( ) acting upon the atoms. In the present work, the trap dynamics of the cesium MOT has been investigated as a function of trap laser intensity and magnetic field gradient ⃗⃗ , keeping the detuning of the trap laser fixed at an optimum value of . Assuming, that all cesium atoms of the background ( ) which enter the trapping region with velocities in the range will be trapped with a certainty of 1, it is possible to develop a model for the capture rate in terms of the capture velocity of cesium vapor cell magneto-optical trap. By experimentally measuring the capture rate as a function of trap laser intensity and magnetic field gradient ⃗⃗ and determining the capture velocity corresponding to the measured capture rate by using simulation graph, it is possible to investigate the intensity and magnetic field dependence of the capture velocity ⃗⃗ . In the present work, the capture dynamics of the magneto-optical trap has been fully investigated. Finally, the magneto-optical trap is suspected to be a stochastic dynamical system as well. Due to the random photon recoils ( ⃗ ) imparted to the atom, the radiative force has a fluctuating force superimposed upon the average force 〈 〉. As a consequence of this fluctuating force, the external and internal dynamics of the atoms become stochastic whose signatures can be found in the resonance fluorescence emitted by the trapped atoms. In the present work, by using the techniques of non-linear time-series analysis, the stochastic dynamics of atom-photon interaction in a magneto-optical trap has been investigated. In short, the conclusion of the thesis is that the magneto-optical trap promises to be an interesting non-linear quantum dynamical system.

یہ خبر سن کر بڑا صدمہ ہوا کہ ۴؍ مارچ کو پروفیسر محمد یونس نگرامی کا انتقال ہوگیا، اناﷲ وانا الیہ راجعون۔ ادھر مہینوں سے ملاقات نہیں ہوئی تھی، لکھنؤ آنے جانے والوں سے ان کی علالت کی خبر ملتی تھی مگر یہ خیال نہیں تھا کہ وہ اتنی جلد رختِ سفر باندھ لیں گے۔
ان کی پیدائش لکھنؤ ضلع کے مردم خیز قصبہ نگرام میں ۱۹۴۱؁ء میں ہوئی تھی، ان کا خاندان علمی و دینی حیثیت سے ممتاز تھا، درس و تدریس، تالیف و تصنیف اور وعظ و ارشاد اس کا طرہ امتیاز تھا۔ ان کے والد مولانا محمد اویس نگرامی ندوی دارالعلوم ندوۃ العلماء لکھنؤ میں شیخ التفسیر تھے۔ وہ دارالمصنفین کے رفیق اور مولانا سید سلیمان ندویؒ کے محبوب تلامذہ میں تھے، ان کی صحبت میں مولانا کے تفسیر و قرآنیات کے ذوق کو بڑی جلا ملی، بعد میں وہ دارالمصنفین کی مجلس انتظامی کے رکن بھی ہوئے۔
پروفیسر محمد یونس نگرامی نے اپنے والد ماجد کے زیر سایہ دارالعلوم ندوۃ العلماء میں تعلیم پائی۔ پھر جامعہ اسلامیہ مدینہ منورہ گئے، لکھنؤ یونیورسٹی سے پی۔ایچ۔ڈی کی ڈگری لی، پہلے یونیورسٹی کے شعبہ عربی میں لکچرر اور اب کئی برس سے پروفیسر ہوگئے تھے۔
ان کا تحقیقی مقالہ ’’ہندوستان میں عربی زبان و ادب‘‘ کے موضوع پر تھا، ان کی دوسری کتب و رسائل کے نام یہ ہیں۔ تھوڑی دیر اہل حق کے ساتھ، خیالات، مثالی خواتین، نماز کیسے پڑھیں، تذکرہ مولانا محمد اویس نگرامی، تقدس حج، خلیجی جنگ وغیرہ۔

Ebadat bring many spiritual and material benefits to worshipers (Muslim), and this included peace of mind and satisfaction of heart. In the view of Quran e Kareem, the main reason for giving details of the rewards and benedictions of the Paradise is to develop satisfaction within the hearts of the worshipers. It is observed that only the way of attaining real peace of mind and satisfaction of heart is to be punctual and regular in offering prayers and paying zakat sincerely realization in the true sense.

Groundwater Vulnerability Assessment of Lahore City Based on Modified Drastic Model in Gis

Water quality is considered as a major issue in the mega cities of developing countries. The city of Lahore has over 10 million population with the highest population density in the Punjab Province, Pakistan. The objectives of the study were to a) assess the temporal variations in physicochemical groundwater parameters and arsenic in the study area and b) create groundwater pollution vulnerability map of the study area using a modified DRASTIC model. The water samples (n = 73) were collected from tubewells and tested for arsenic and physicochemical parameters (alkalinity, calcium, pH, total dissolved solids, turbidity, hardness, and chlorides). Similar physicochemical water quality parameter data were also obtained from Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) for the year 2012. The data exploration was performed using SPSS software. ArcGIS spatial analyst, geostatistical analyst, Getis-Ord Gi* statistics and model builder were used for mapping the water quality and analysis of the modified DRASTIC model. Various interpolation methods (radial basis functions, inverse distance weighting and kriging) were used for mapping the water quality to come up with the best groundwater quality map. Comparison of different interpolation methods based on the lowest root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) closer to zero showed that kriging produced better results than the other interpolation methods. The spatial distribution map of groundwater arsenic of 2015 showed that the arsenic concentrations above WHO guideline (10 μg/L) exist almost in the entire study area, whereas, the concentrations are above the national standards for drinking water quality of Pakistan (50 μg/L) in some areas of Ravi Town (Farrukhabad/Shahdra). Getis-Ord Gi* statistics revealed a significant (p < 0.05) hotspot of arsenic in the vicinity of River Ravi. While in the eastern parts of the study area, the arsenic concentrations had a decreasing trend. viii The modified DRASTIC model revealed that 51.38%, 36.77%, 9.48% and 2.37% area could be categorized in terms of vulnerability as low, moderate, high and very high, respectively. The ‘high’ and ‘very high’ vulnerability classes were found along the River Ravi and nearby areas, especially in Ravi Town (Farrukhabad/Shahdra). It is recommended that the arsenic removal plants should be installed at all the tubewells with higher arsenic levels (arsenic concentration > 50 ppb) to provide safe drinking water to the citizens of Lahore. Moreover, the spatio-temporal techniques used for analysis of water quality should be applied in other mega cities for better monitoring and management of drinking water quality.
