Determination of the Factors Enhancing Intolerance and Extremism among University Students: An Evaluative Study The element of tolerance and acceptance of opinions in our society is fast diminishing. There is a general lack of flexibility in attitudes and the ability to conform to other peoples’ decisions. This maybe a cause for the image of Islam which is being propagated in the Western media, where being a Muslim has become synonymous with promoting extremism. An apparent reason for the intolerance is the exclusion of underprivileged due to the very great gap between the rich and the poor as displayed through the disparity in incomes in our society, the various systems of education where only the privileged can earn education of value. The aim of the research was to verify the factors behind intolerance and extremism and how it is relevant to the Pakistani curriculum at higher education level. The study contributed towards understanding the areas that maybe focused by future researches in identifying the ways through which teachers, students and parents can work together to promote peace, social harmony, social justice and democracy, tolerance and pluralism through good practices and examples.
