Using relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell equations, a general expression for the conductivity tensor is derived in spherical polar coordinates. Modes of ultra relativistic electron plasma embedded in a strong magnetic field are investigated for perpendicular propagation. For this purpose, an ultra-relativistic Maxwellian distribution function is employed to derive different modes for strong magnetic field limit. In particular, the dispersion relations for the ordinary mode and the extraordinary mode (O-mode and X- mode) are obtained. Graphs of these dispersion relations and of the imaginary part of the frequency are drawn for some arbitrary values of the parameters. It is observed that the damping rate increases gradually, reaches some maximum point and then decreases for larger wavenumbers. Further, increasing the strength of the magnetic field lowers the maximum value of the damping rate. Bernstein mode for a relativistic degenerate electron plasma is also investigated. By employing Fermi-Dirac distribution function a generalized dispersion relation for the Bernstein mode is obtained. Two cases i.e., non-relativistic and ultra-relativistic are discussed. The dispersion relations obtained are graphically presented for some specific values of the parameters depicting how the propagation characteristics of Bernstein waves as well as the Upper Hybrid oscillations are modified with the increase in plasma number density.

Education As a Catalyst of Personality Development: A Case Study of ‘Omar Bin Khattāb R. A

The individual’s personality, character, thinking, skills and habits depends upon education. Education helps in the growth and boost the qualities of an individual such as physical, mental and emotional make-up as well as temperament and character. This paper enlightens the significant role of education in developing and mounting the personality of ‘Omar Ibn alKhattāb (R.A). He was one of the most powerful and influential Muslim caliphs. His vibrant ideology of superiority of principles and laws made him eminent among his acquaintances. He was a man of determination and a mission, therefore, he thought, evaluated and acted according to it. He established a system of justice, morality, education and training. He was born as an ordinary‘Omar but education and guidance of Islam made him “‘Omar The Great”. This paper ends with the note that a balanced, successful and well-adjusted personality can be designed only by educating the individuals. Educational institutions, religious organizations and enrich culture play an important role in shaping the sturdy personality as is evident in case of ‘Omar(R.A).

An Evaluation of English Textbooks at SSC Level in Government Schools of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa

An Evaluation of English Textbooks at SSC Level in Government Schools of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa The present study sought to evaluate English textbooks which are taught at government schools of Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa at SSC (Secondary School Certificate) level. The main purpose was to see congruence in the objectives laid down by the National Curriculum Wing and the textbooks prepared by Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa Textbook Board. The study was based on multimodel approach of Creswell (2005) in which both quantitative and qualitative data were collected, analyzed and compared to have a richer insight into the research problem. Quantitatively, survey research method was adopted and questionnaires were prepared and administered to students and teachers. The questionnaires were made keeping in view the research objectives and the objectives of National Curriculum Wing covering four main skills ; speaking, writing, reading, listening and three sub skills; pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. The questionnaires were translated into Urdu, piloted and their validity and reliability were calculated. In order to collect data qualitatively, a checklist was devised having seven broad categories like the questionnaires and the prescribed textbooks were evaluated against them. The quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS version 16 and frequencies, means, standard deviation were calculated. The qualitative data was thematically analyzed. The findings of the study reveal that the prescribed textbooks are not good enough to achieve the objectives spelled out by National Curriculum Wing. Listening skills and pronunciation are altogether ignored. As far as other skills, traditional methods of presentation are adopted. In case of writing, product approach is adopted instead of process. Likewise, in case of grammar, artificial and contrived discrete point activities are provided. The focus of attention is form and not functions. Moreover effort is made to teach language at word and sentence level and not at discourse level. Reading section is not challenging for students and vocabulary section does not enable students to become autonomous learners. To sum up, the prescribed textbooks do not help the students to become communicatively competent. In the light of the findings of the research, suggestions for improvement of textbooks and recommendations for further research were suggested.
